I've enjoyed your videos for years, and though I like all of them, these where you drive to a more local area and just go for a wander are most often my favorite. It's such a reminder that you can go out and create beautiful images without flying halfway around the world. I am a little spoiled, though. I'm in the US within driving distance of the Smoky Mountains of east Tennessee, and there's more beauty there than I could ever hope to capture. Happy shooting even in these crazy times!
These are the types of vlogs that keep on making me coming back when with others I get eventually bored. It is definitely your signature. Well done. Great story telling and great videography. Thank you.
FINALLY! Someone going out in early hours through the woods and accepting that it is eery or a little scary! This has always been my prime fear which prevents me from being at the right place at the right time. Great shots great video as usual. Thanks for all you do Tom!
I love that you didn't give up in getting the shot, and because of it you really captured multiple images that are phenomenal. Thank you for the encouraging reminder to never give up!
That last shot in the forest, the upper part of the photo just to the right of center, it looks like a big eye looking at you. Spectacular shot! Always enjoy your videos!
Just want to say I love the content and the down to earth feel :) great quality videos but with the realism of photography’s ups and lows. I enjoy the buddy feeling of the audience being with you even during your meals and chats. Just feels like more of a trip with your mates than a try hard super professional tutorial. Thanks, Noah
Third image is just gorgeous Tom. Fog, sun, birds, the tree, absolutely fantastic, really like that one. You're right, sometimes it's just worth to stop and take an image.
Thank you for shooting a woodland video. Where I live it’s mostly flat land and forest and I struggle sometimes to feel inspired in the serious lack of grand vistas. I needed this today 🙂
Ah I totally can relate to this struggle, happened to me soo many times. Nothing worst that the feeling of having spent a whole early morning trying to chase mist and coming back with just ok photos, then again nothing beats the high of coming back home and knowing "you got the shot" . Thanks for sharing your day - cheers from Canada.
Heaton, you pulled it off! The shot with the lone tree, mist.and sun peeking through was phenomenal! They were all great, but that one was my fav. The jumping out of the car to get the shot was reminiscent of the story behind Ansel Adam's Moonrise over Hernandez. Now I feel like going out and shooting something. Thanks!
Hahahaha!!!! The BLACK SHADOW watching you in the forest. That´s definetly something nobody tells about photography... sometimes gets a bit scary in those dark places. Your honesty is always great.
This was an emotional rollercoaster! Loved it. Excellent work Thomas. The third and second photographs were my favorites. Glad you had the opportunity to stop and grab them :)
Hardest thing for me to do when out on the road is if I see a nice scene, jamming on the brakes and taking a picture of it. It's hard to get away from that "I have someplace I'm going" mindset and taking a few minutes to stop.
@Bobby Brady that diversity of approach is what makes each one unique. The beauty of any human expression :) it's wonderful to see many different views and approachs, that even if they are different, they all do the same in the end: values the beauty of the nature and our common home(Earth).
@Bobby Brady well, first, sorry if I said something wrong or couldn't express myself well hahah but everyone have a different mindset and sometimes have planned objectives. Time and natural light are something we don't control, so naturally there are people who prefer to pass by and endure the "pain" of passing by, even if it is a wonderful scene, to try to capture the perfect photo they already have planed or otherwise they will lose it, it's a incredible and ambitious focus and discipline, really. Sometimes you have to measure if it's worth it, mostly when you have already an objetive, a plan, a project, it can go wrong and the scene you passed by turned out to be better, but that's life. I'm not like that, I would definitly pull the car to see the scene, not sure if I would capture it, but to apreciate it is for sure. I think we try hard enough to put people in the same box we have in our heads, everyone do it, but everyone is different, so there are different aproaches as well.
Obviously, I'm not a pro. I drive an 18 wheeler. I see many opportunities for nice shots, but I just can't stop. It makes me sad. The camera is in the passenger seat. Missed them.
I am with Seth on this one. I have a touch of Aspergers I think, where, once I have set myself somewhere to be, I really struggle to deviate. It doesnt make me any less passionate, its something I physically and mentally fight to try and do, but it often leaves me feeling highly distressed (and stressed to the point of distraction) that the plan is not going the way it 'should'. Theres also the fear that the place or shot I was aiming for might be missed because I stopped. Sometimes its just easier to suffer the disappointment, and continue the drive.
Wow, I really like the 10:10 shot through the mist against the sun, that flock of birds and the simple scene, lovely! Stay healthy and keep em coming Thomas. Best regards from Germany.
Many many years ago I was cycling along a road through the local woods at about 1am after watching An American Werewolf in London at my girlfriends house, It was one of those nights when the Moon was low on the horizon, so it was looking huge, with clouds blowing over it............Imagination !!!! Too bloody right, I've have never cycled so kin fast in my entire life :-)
Similar happened to me years ago. I went running in a very cold, dark and foggy winter night. Got on a trail in a forest. The headtorch light could not reach far trough the fog, the snow muffled every step. I suddenly felt this knot in my stomach and this eerie sensation. I hurried out of the woods as fast as I could and felt relief when I reached the first settlement. Usually I‘m having a good laugh when watching horror movies 😂
Hi Thomas, Just wanted to say thank you for making such great content. I've been stuck at home recovering from surgery and I've just been binge-watching your channel. Have a nice day.
The ‘mind games’ you touched on early in this video, I can resonate with that Tom. I ventured out on Monday morning at 5am and wandered through Bradgate Park near to where I live as I embarked on a sunrise ‘tree’ image that I’m after. Head torch on in the complete darkness, I was for the most part surrounded by scores of reflected beady eyes of the local deer in the park as they sat in the surrounding grassy areas, REALLY spooky...... Great vid as always, admire your work and struggles 🙌
Mate, that shot of the tree with the birds flying in formation by the sun, deadset one of your best images to date! It’s stunning and perfectly captured. I was surprised you didn’t make more of a fuss about it in the video.
Sometimes your B roll is in itself a beautiful image and I end up loving that the most. I'm glad you've shared this, some of us don't have the chance to travel quite as far and that moment you had to hand hold pays testament to the opportunities everyone can capture. Beautiful video r kid
Without doubt, this kind of video is my favourite that you produce. It provides a fascinating insight into your photographic eye and how you pick out compositions in landscapes most of us have on our doorstep. You were very despondent at the start (as I would be) but you pull out some magical and beautiful images. Liked all of them, but yes the tree and birds in flight was the standout image. Top work sir, please more videos like these 😀 And finally, I know what that feeling, in a dark foreboding forest. I always remind myself that rather than being scared by birds suddenly flying off, that it’s a good sign, it means your the only person that has been that way 😏
Loved the photo of the single tree with the flock of birds in the fog!!! Please place it somewhere in your next book. I admire you for getting up before sunrise and driving a good distance to try and get a few good photographs. Keep up the good work.
Ahh, the excitement & adrenaline rush of the 'run & gun' landscape shots, I had a few of those myself this past weekend while driving the narrow back roads in search of some autumn landscapes in which I was not disappointed, nor was I let down. My photography cup doth runneth over. :)
Another awesome video from you Drone footage is never a waste of time it all depends on what it sees at the time of flying And that tree such beautiful serenity with all those Vines all over it absolutely beautiful breathtaking of Harmony
Well done! I both love and hate these kinds of frantic shoots myself. The chase of it is really fun and quite adventurous in a sense. But it's hard to enjoy it properly since the chase always prompts me to move on. Much prefer calmer days even if they aren't as rewarding in terms of photographic results.
Beautiful images, Tom. I’m such a walking clusterf$^% in the mornings with only my photo gear, I still have not the faintest conception of how you manage to traipse around in a rush getting video AND photo, create a compelling story, and still come away with shots. More power to you...
That shot of the sun through mist, with birds and lone tree - very nice!!!
I agree. Curious to know if that is an oak or elm tree..
Agreed
agree- was about to post the same thing
Agreed! Best shot of the entire video. I assume he got that on the fly which is why there isn't any content about it.
Agree, my favourite shot of the video.
I've enjoyed your videos for years, and though I like all of them, these where you drive to a more local area and just go for a wander are most often my favorite. Happy shooting even in these crazy times!
The 3rd image is an absolute favorite of mine. Silhouette tree, mist with the birds flying pass by the sun. Absolutely brilliant.
The shot of the sunrise with the birds in front of the sun, with the big, old, knarly tree in it made the video a winner.
Thomas is such an authentic story teller !
These are the types of vlogs that keep on making me coming back when with others I get eventually bored. It is definitely your signature. Well done. Great story telling and great videography. Thank you.
I like the hand-held one the most... I think it was so well composed...
The tree with the birds and the fog is a big time winner here. well done!!
The shot of the birds with the sun filtering through the mist and the tree on the right is my favorite one of the bunch. To me, it is perfect.
FINALLY! Someone going out in early hours through the woods and accepting that it is eery or a little scary! This has always been my prime fear which prevents me from being at the right place at the right time. Great shots great video as usual. Thanks for all you do Tom!
That shot with the birds absolutely phenomenal
I love that you didn't give up in getting the shot, and because of it you really captured multiple images that are phenomenal. Thank you for the encouraging reminder to never give up!
That sunrise in the fog with the tree... Wow, beautiful.
That last shot in the forest, the upper part of the photo just to the right of center, it looks like a big eye looking at you. Spectacular shot! Always enjoy your videos!
Long time fan. Production values are amazing. The work that must take and the dedication to story. Really nice!
Just want to say I love the content and the down to earth feel :) great quality videos but with the realism of photography’s ups and lows. I enjoy the buddy feeling of the audience being with you even during your meals and chats. Just feels like more of a trip with your mates than a try hard super professional tutorial.
Thanks,

Third image is just gorgeous Tom. Fog, sun, birds, the tree, absolutely fantastic, really like that one. You're right, sometimes it's just worth to stop and take an image.
I know right!? That was my favorite shot from this too :)
@@zenphotojourney Yep. Sometimes conditions are just perfect. For me, this is one of the best images from Tom's recent videos. Very well done.
also my favorite. it looks like one of those dreamy scenes, just incredible
The 4K video footage looks awesome Tom. Really adds to the quality of your content.
The 3rd photo of the birds in flight is amazing! one of my favourites you have ever shown in any video.
Thank you for shooting a woodland video. Where I live it’s mostly flat land and forest and I struggle sometimes to feel inspired in the serious lack of grand vistas. I needed this today 🙂
That second picture (the panorama with the trees) is absolutely gorgeous. I love that scene.
Think the first couple of shots are quite good, the third with the warm sun really hit me! Work of a great photographer!!
A very nice return to your classic style (and no hassle-blah)!
Ah I totally can relate to this struggle, happened to me soo many times. Nothing worst that the feeling of having spent a whole early morning trying to chase mist and coming back with just ok photos, then again nothing beats the high of coming back home and knowing "you got the shot" . Loved the lone tree with the birds shot.
Second shot well worth stopping for.
Heaton, you pulled it off! The shot with the lone tree, mist.and sun peeking through was phenomenal! They were all great, but that one was my fav. The jumping out of the car to get the shot was reminiscent of the story behind Ansel
Adam's Moonrise over Hernandez. Now I feel like going out and shooting something. Thanks!
Your first two shots were beautiful Mr Heaton, loved them.
beautiful shot of the tree and birds
that single image with the tree and birds flying infant of the sun is incredible!!
Hahahaha!!!! The BLACK SHADOW watching you in the forest. That´s definetly something nobody tells about photography... sometimes gets a bit scary in those dark places. Your honesty is always great.
Thomas, so happy to see you out and about. Great shots, absolutely stunning.
You craft your videos so well. Which is why you’ve inspired so many. Well done my friend and thanks for sharing your craft.
This day started not so good, but you made it glorious
!
This was an emotional rollercoaster! Loved it. Excellent work Thomas. The third and second photographs were my favorites. Glad you had the opportunity to stop and grab them :)
Golden tree with the birds is stunning
I absolutely love that image of the sun burning through the mist silhouetting the tree and birds flying off. Made me blurt out “wow” out loud.
Great video. And that photo of the tree and birds is absolutely stunning! Amazing shot.
Great vid master Heaton. Inspiring us all to get out there again and enjoy nature and to see the beauty in it all.
Received my calendar today... love it! Thanks Thomas

Beautiful Mood Images
Beautiful music, very fitting. 🌳
The third image with the sun, birds and fog is a real keeper!
that final image, you're definitely being watched
Great Video, desperate? I say hungry and flexible. You are a pro and make the most adverse conditions to bring the beauty out of a subject, well done!
Nice little morning out Tom beautiful images to 👍
Another lesson learned, with calming woodland stills to enjoy
Really nice video and very nice, moody pictures. The one with the birds through the mist is really an amazing moment captured at the perfect time.
Loved the third image.
that backlit tree & birds pic is one of the best I've seen from you to date. just saying.
Wow, I really like the 10:10 shot through the mist against the sun, that flock of birds and the simple scene, lovely! Stay healthy and keep em coming Thomas. Best regards from Germany.

Went for an ocean swim the morning after watching the movie "Jaws." Man, that was one of the most nerve wracking swims of my life !!!
Similar happened to me years ago. I went running in a very cold, dark and foggy winter night. Got on a trail in a forest. It's good to see the Canon out and about again. I'm currently shooting Olympus, but have been in the hands of Canon a few times over the years.
All worth the running about in the end. Great photos. I wasn't expecting the sunrise one with birds. 👍🙂
Pulls over and gets epic shot with tree, mist, sun, and migrating birds! Blown away at your walk in the park!
The misty photo to me is the best I've seen from you in recent tines. I love this a lot.
Keep up the great content. Thank you!
Hi Thomas, Just wanted to say thank you for making such great content. I've been stuck at home recovering from surgery and I've just been binge-watching your channel. Have a nice day.
Great journey! Love this light!
You and Nigel D both chasing the mist this week! Third shot is truely magical.
That “black shadow” will almost certainly be Mr Baxter ...
Thanks. I got my calendar today. Liking these little chases you go on. I don't know quite why, but your trees seem more interesting than ours.
awesome as always!
can’t wait to see your van project
Loved the run and gun shot. Very cool.

The last shot is stunning actually.
The shot with the flying birds is stunning! 👌🏼😃

BRAVO, absolutely enjoyed this photography adventure. Beautiful images.
Birds. Lovely shot. Thanks.

I feel the phrase 'You Lucky Lucky Bastard' coming on (in a Monty Python Voice) But of course it wasn't luck, it was serendipity.
So glad there are no bears in your woods!

Your persistence paid off in the end! Great to have a drone for the reconnaissance 👍🏻😎

keep going Thomas!! beautiful photos
Cracking capture at 10:33 Very moody and amazing light.

That’s more like it. Farewell Hasselblad Heaton. Welcome home Tommy Canon 😂👍👍👍
third image is like a lion or wolf preparing to attack its prey. great video my friend.
I learn a lot from your videos. thank you very much.
Run and Gun, have done that on many occassion. always have the camera sat in the car ready just in case. great imagine that one.
10:20 That is absolutely beautiful
LOVE that last shot! Always fun cruising w/ you Tommy….
Hand Held Sniper! Beautiful shots again, Thomas. :)
Another great video. Nice photos.
Beautiful!
The colours at 05:19, though... I know it's video and UA-cam etc, but they look just so lovely.
Beautiful images, Tom. I’m such a walking clusterf$^% in the mornings with only my photo gear, I still have not the faintest conception of how you manage to traipse around in a rush getting video AND photo, create a compelling story, and still come away with shots. More power to you...
Thank you for your wonderful work and video. Writer.
Love the last shot Thomas. Great vid as always.
That is a dope photo Thomas!
Love it... thanx Tom 🍀👍🏻
Wow, I rarely comment, but that third image is glorious!
