Howdy Belle! This is the channel I go to when I want the facts on a situation. People in my life either purposely avoid the news or they watch nonsense. Thank you for keeping us internet people intelligently informed.
Bourbon Street is a narrow street. You couldn't miss people - and when I say 'people' I mean innocents. I just don't understand the mentality of destroyers like that.
I know. I have sympathy for those suffering whatever mental break that eventually produces these results (suicide by cop or murder/suicide) but why do they have to start by taking others besides themselves along their gory path.
a very target rich environment full of drunk folks, packed tight. Having been to NOLA several times, I can tell you that street is either busy or packed - there is no "empty hour" on Bourbon street.
The mentality is that there are no innocents. Everyone there was part of the culture/demographic/political leaning they were opposed to, or perceived as being opposed to them, and was therefore fair game. This applies pretty much to any incident of this type, whoever the destroyer is and whatever cause impels them.

Hello Belle, I’m a N.O. native and am currently visiting for the holidays. I have family and friends in NOPD and I’ll say this. There is yet to be anything fantastic or sexy or jaw dropping about the details as of yet. Anyone telling wild stories is doing so for the sensationalism. Right? All these comments about his parents and their possible heritage, when the dude is a 42 year old grown man, born and raised in Texas. Such predjudice b.s.
to be fair, this was a muslim, iirc a converted one, but i'm not sure, that committed a terror attack. also to be fair, it's been a while since one of those happened in the US.
Exactly. It's almost always spun into being about race, ethnicity, or religion, unless it's a white Christian who does it, then those factors are quickly ignored. I wonder why that is...
@@vforwombat9915It's the fact that any problems where the perpetrator turned out to be brown is labeled a Muslim problem. Even when they're Christian or even the Baha'i shooter from a few years back. The absolute hardest question to answer when it comes to these kinds of events is why. The means are incredibly easy to obtain, rent-a-truck, firearms, even accomplices. But the real question remains to be answered, why.
Usually mental health issues ... but the US remains the last major industrial nation on Earth without universal health care, so I don't know that it will get better as soon as we would like. It's literally faster and cheaper to buy a boomstick and wreak havoc, than to access and pay for the kind of therapy which could solve a person's actual problems. Several kinds of wrong in that. Belle and Beau I have learned to wait and see how the story develops and try not to jump to conclusions thanks to your work. Its working and has for the last 5 years at least! Thankyou
This is why I immediately doubted the claims of terrorism, though since the guy was an army veteran shouldn't this be looked into, like maybe he couldn't get the help he needed before he went down some rabbit hole
Same thing happened a few days ago immediately after the attack on the Christmas market in eastern Germany. Soon turned out, the guy was mentally ill and went off the deep end after authorities ignored prior warnings because the agency in question didn't consider itself responsible and instead of contacting the right one, they just told the person reporting it they'd have to repeat those steps somewhere else.
I turned on the TV this morning and saw the news. Switched through the broadcast channels that were mostly reporting the same thing with no new information and a lot of repetition. I did get a chuckle over the footage of the Cyber-dumpster on fire in front of Trump's Vegas hotel. It seemed prophetic. Saddened at the tragic loss of life. Helluva way to start 2025. Thanks for the call and reasoned assessment, Belle & crew
I’ve been watching the channel for years. Even before that I got fed up with the phrase “breaking news”. Only to find out hours or days later that the “news” was inaccurate and that being the first to report it was more important than getting it right. It’s only gotten worse since, especially on line. I heard about the New Orleans incident yesterday but waited for Belle and a couple others before I paid attention. Thanks to the crew for actually informing us. ( on the somewhat petty side of the situation, I have always been extremely annoyed when one of the few television programs I enjoy is interrupted by “breaking news” that has absolutely no emergent information that couldn’t wait until the next news program). 🤬 Next up…waiting to hear real news about Las Vegas.
Some prefer to be misled if it feeds their rage and fear. True information gives us confidence and allow us to plan so an intelligent person prefers accurate reporting.
The ones who prefer to stay in their echo chambers choose the sources that enable them to do so... And those sources know their audiences. There are still more mainstream networks that consider themselves non-biased and should do better.
Thank you so much for your even-handed coverage of not just things like this, but things in general. Yes, we know your leanings, but you never let that get in the way with the facts, which I truly appreciate.
A friend messaged me about the news story this morning and I just commented that it's best to wait for more information to come out. That's how I know I've been watching this channel for awhile. Meanwhile, the Cybertruck explosion in front of the Trump Hotel in Vegas is the more bizarre story

Meanwhile, nobody addresses the fact that Bourbon Street is supposed to be WALKING ONLY during this time. The "under construction" bollards were removed but not replaced with jersey barriers which WOULD have prevented that truck from entering the street. Once again, car speed and preventing paint scraping is prioritized over human lives.
First thing i feel is extremely sad and not safe what i do next is not react to the news I give it sometime to unfold but i rely on channels like this for accurate reporting 😊
I don't watch TV so I had no idea this happened. Thanks, Belle, for being my first source of information on it and for being such a high-quality source. I try to avoid believing in stereotypes BUT living in Wisconsin for many years has taught me that there is a certain kind of person (usually male but not always) out there who hates me for being a gay man and whose anger is constantly being stoked by fascist media. This kind of person will not hesitate to mow down innocents in any community they consider "too gay," and pickup trucks are one of the easier kinds of weapons to acquire for doing this.

When I hear of news like this, I developed a habit of going to multiple sources, especially if some information seems "off the cuff" and now the FBI have considered it's not going to be one person acting. Far better to wait than jump into nonsense.
I don't want to start a conspiracy theory. But... If someone wanted a reason to declare a state of emergency to restrict liberty to try to secure power, it might start with a series of acts and ongoing threats like today.
I had to stop watching all of the "news networks" when their need to be first outweighed their need to inform with factual details. I am old enough to remember a day when some journalists reported news. Surely they held opinions. And the way they delivered information at least sounded like they knew it was true.
The Big 3 networks provided the news at a financial loss, as part of their FCC license requirements. Archie Bunker paid for Walter Cronkite. And there were still ethics and standards being followed. I would submit that CNN started the change for the worse, showed a for-profit model could be applied to the news. It's all gone downhill since.
I think it all ties back to the Iran Hostage Crisis, and Ted Koppel's ABC nightly show. That, plus cable news got us addicted to unless 24x7. Ugh, it was tedious then.
Meanwhile in Montenegro, they're considering banning guns after a mass shooting on nye. (There's a lot of 'people can do more than thoughts and prayers' comments under the article I read.)

Me too, except partly in Beau's voice. Because having the right information...
💔💔💔💔💔
@@HarryHache-l3m indeed. I was only there once. Another friend was there with his wife who was there for business. He went out for the day and got stabbed. Not saying it's common but… Being from San Francisco I was raised to be incredibly aware of my surroundings. And I am always looking for at least 2 to 3 exits.
What you probably know already is all that’s been determined. For now, though, we’re sitting tight waiting for it to unfold, hurting, praying and extending concerns to the community. Thank you for being a calm, rational voice of the people and for those who simply want to know.
You cautioned people in NOLA to be extra cautious and aware. I would extend that warning to anyone participating in a large scale event. There is too much hatred around, and copycats abound. Maintain situational awareness always.
Especially since the possibly related Las Vegas hotel bombing incident happened in a different state.
What upsets me is that this is being used to other folks who are Muslims again.
It's just used to paint all Muslims (and brown people in general) as violent aggressors. No one ever pulls out the Christian or right wing nonsense when that's who does something awful, even though that's far more common.
@@scoobydoo3928Which just goes to show that home grown terrorism is alive and a major threat to Americans in the homeland.
Belle, your coverage gets better and better.
Thanks for educating the public.
It's so needed.
Analyze your news sources, people, and seeking truth instead of sensationalism or headlines intending to provoke a response.
When my daughter was younger, I told her, "Always pay attention." This is still true for both good stuff and bad. Be aware of your surroundings and what's going on.
Very well spoken, ma'am. Thank you. I had avoided listening to any news about this incident until I saw your video and you and Beau are, in my mind, trustworthy reporters.
I feel bad for the families and all this misinformation just causes extra pain for them. 😢
The Alex Jones replacements of the world have only just begun to grift. They will inflict additional pain on the suffering in order to profit from it. Looks like free speech has a downside. One cannot yell fire in a crowded theater but one can go up and yell no you didn't to a family who just lost a loved one in the senseless attack. Make America a shining beacon of light again.
Go safely. Be well.
Thanks, Belle! I saw the headlines but did not click on any of those sites. I wanted the facts, so I waited for your report of the situation.
Thank you so much Belle for doing such a wonderful job of maintaining the precious island of sanity that is your channel
Hi Belle 👋🏻. Sad day in New Orleans. Thanks so much for the clarification. It’s too bad that so much misinformation gets out so fast.
You give us good information Belle. Thank you. We need informed citizens to keep our republic.
Initial reporting said it was a guy with an Arabic name that had an ISIS flag in his truck who had crossed the southern border. I wonder what could possibly be their motive for making such a claim? Hmmm... 🤔
"It was an illegal immigrant!"
- "Dave, he was a US citizen. A US military veteran."
"Well who the heck am I supposed to hate over this?
@@MonkeyJedi99 indeed.
Thank you so much for giving us a level-headed report.
Level headed ever so is better than flat headed.
Yeah, I saw a lot of posts from people posting crap saying it was an immigrant 😢. They were people in elected positions and biased news people; I'm so sick of the hatred being spread by a certain party 😢.
Excellent advice
Have a great day Belle ☺️
Thank you very much
💙💙👍💙💙🐎😔😞😢
Ahem, *technically * (and I'm sure they will use this) he was what could be considered "an immigrant". It won't matter that he was born in Texas. It won't matter that he served in our military for 14 years.
All that will matter is that he has "one of *those* funny sounding names" and that his family is from "over there".
Not to mention that certain black flag he was flying on his truck. 😢
E.g. Louisiana Sen. Foghorn Leghorn. Let no bloody catastrophe go underexploited for political points.
@generalputnam2990 LOL! Did you see him drinking out of his cup WITH BOTH HANDS During the press conference earlier today??? Just like fearless leader!
@@THE_BaconPirate "he was what could be considered "an immigrant"."
wasn't he born in the US? then not an immigrant.
i thought i'd heard he changed his name later in life, but i'm not sure.
@vforwombat9915 I said "could be"... Remember, they are the group who lumps all brown people in the same internment camp.
My bias was the fact that it was a pickup and the FBI hesitated over calling it a terrorist attack so I figured it must be a white dude. 🤷♀️
Often is.
No, not white this time. ''The FBI has named the assailant as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, an Army veteran and US citizen from Texas.''
I always believe it is one of the three Abrahamic religious ideologies at play, and I am almost correct every single time.
@margaretnicol3423 I have no factual/ confirmed info on his demographic, but it's important to remember that people of all groups have changed their names when converting to a new (to them) religion.
@@TheReflectivePerspective There was a photo of him on the news but I appreciate your thinking.
This is why I never follow breaking news stories. The media is so desperate to keep your attention that they'll just speculate wildly and pass on unsubstantiated rumors. Unless something's happening in my immediate vicinity, there's no information I can't wait until later to find out.
Belle and Beau
I have learned to wait and see how the story develops and try not to jump to conclusions thanks to your work.
Its working and has for the last 5 years at least!
Thankyou
A marvelous way of slamming Trump without ever naming him
Thank you (and your team) for always being the voice of reason.
This is why I immediately doubted the claims of terrorism, though since the guy was an army veteran shouldn't this be looked into, like maybe he couldn't get the help he needed before he went down some rabbit hole
When this channel tells me to pay attention, I do. Thanks for the lesson, Belle. ❤🎉
Thank you Belle and team. I always come here when I know that a story like this is unfolding. The voice of reason and calm!
Love you Belle. Thanks for being there!
I've learned to not rush to judgement but to wait for the facts to come out and listen to those who can understand them.
🙏🏼 THANK YOU, THANK YOU, DEAR BELLE. ❤
But also a pretty uniquely American way to start the year off, whether we like to admit it or not.
Thank you, Belle, for your report on this awful event😔
Very grateful for your words of wisdom and actions ❤️
Next up…waiting to hear real news about Las Vegas.
Thank you for all the info you provide us. Keep up the good work Belle and the Team :)
Some prefer to be misled if it feeds their rage and fear. True information gives us confidence and allow us to plan so an intelligent person prefers accurate reporting.
The ones who prefer to stay in their echo chambers choose the sources that enable them to do so... And those sources know their audiences.
There are still more mainstream networks that consider themselves non-biased and should do better.
advice for news consumers! anything that actually matters will still be news in a week.
I saw that as a planned event that ties the two males together in their plan to hurt the middle class and the poor of our country.
I missed the cybertruck news. Thank you.
*off to look it up*
Realistically, it's 50/50 on whether the cybercrap explosion was an intentional act, or just a cybercrap being a cybercrap.

Thank you Belle. Clear, firm yet kind. Excellent example of how this should be reported. I always come here to confirm or deny my other sources.
Thanks Belle. I've seen very extreme posts on Facebook about the attack. But thanks to you and Beau, I figured the early information and those posts were suspect. I'm far away, but will be aware of my surroundings regardless.
I did not watch any news local or mainstream so thankfully I did not hear what they told people but I can imagine it was filled with fear and hate of the other. and I'm just not doing that anymore. I live in deep south la.
Meanwhile, nobody addresses the fact that Bourbon Street is supposed to be WALKING ONLY during this time. The "under construction" bollards were removed but not replaced with jersey barriers which WOULD have prevented that truck from entering the street.

*Ockham, named after William of Ockham, England.
It has been USified (decidedly _not_ anglicized!) to Occam, but I prefer to keep original spellings, meanings, and culture as much as possible.
Perhaps if a certain fellow had retained his original spelling of “Drumpf”, history may have played out differently. (I use any excuse, justified or not, to try to preserve culture.)
Anyone heard from Kash Patel on the FBI's role in the Vegas incident and New Orleans? Or is he too busy planning the shutdown of FBI headquarters?
Thanks for clearing up everything, Belle.
Thank you, Belle.
Could you please also talk about the Tesla fire in Las Vegas. That one sounds like it's also going to have a lot of misinformation.
That is another one where the FBI has indicated that it was not a lone wolf. And they have not made clear if it was terrorism or something else. Just more than one on their investigation. Not sure if the driver was perp or victim.
Donald Trump is NOT making it safe for ANYONE.
Even the assassination attempts on him could have been prevented with common sense gun ownership safety measures he rejected.
This is why I delay looking at what happened for a day or two. If I really feel that it's important to know immediately, I look at multiple sources.

Thank you Belle for helping to keep sanity alive.
Thank You Belle and Team for the News Highlights and Observations🔎 that is very informed and researched.
Those people were not "lost". Not like they got lost in the woods or at sea. They were killed. They were murdered.
Sadly had the same exact thought
I really hope this isn't an omen of things to come. Stay safe out there
I had to stop watching all of the "news networks" when their need to be first outweighed their need to inform with factual details.
I am old enough to remember a day when some journalists reported news. Surely they held opinions. And the way they delivered information at least sounded like they knew it was true.
That was before 12-14 oligarchs owned most print, radio and TV media outlets. Corporate media is only interested in the buck. If it bleeds, it leads.
You will still find fools saying "oh thoughts and prayers" and do nothing to help the issue until the next thing that happens and repeat it.
Meanwhile in Montenegro, they're considering banning guns after a mass shooting on nye.
(There's a lot of 'people can do more than thoughts and prayers' comments under the article I read.)

Indeed saw this fall both ways. As soon as a trickle of info came out from the scene people were jumping to conclusions and conspiracies: He was from Texas (truck tag) so he must be a white MAGA nutjob. He was a POC so he was an immigrant (Trump’s statement amplified this), etc.
We *all* need to do better about knee-jerk reactions when these kind of things happen. It helps no one and makes us all look bad.
Thank you for always being a voice of reason and calm in situations like these
Here’s what I learned…. with a week’s head start we still can’t defend against a fricken car running into packed streets across our cities let alone our towns.
The fact that those same folks that got it wrong, will not come back in front of a camera to apologize for being wrong. And the ones that believed them will spin it in a different light. Oh, he has a foreign name, he came through the border and a soft target. Stop the BS.
Important to keep in mind/ remind other people before backlash/ retribution attacks begin: I have no factual/ confirmed info on his demographic, but it's important to remember that people of all groups have changed their names when converting to a new (to them) religion.
Cassius Clay did that. Of course he was not a terrorist in any way.
AMEN!!!! one of the first things I thought when I heard reports of the drivers name ….. please let it not be a Muslim immigrant! Maybe it will be a good ol’ American white guy who converted. Bingo. I guess my critical thinking brain is still working 😅
Anyway, we will see what factual news bits are actually released to us … the lowly masses.
I've learned to stay home during special days and read at least 3 sources: Local, American, BBC. The simplest solution, who is going to benefit and follow the money are 3 basic tricks to get an idea of what's really going on.
I agree that we need to be aware. I practice an abundance of caution on holidays and stay out of crowded places.
The first headlines tend to be attention seeking more than factual.
Just subscribe to the idea that someone drove a vehicle into a crowd, there are casualties and the feds have not given the all clear that the situation is contained. Turn off the tv and wait for the next official press conference giving updates, repeat.
