Part of the treaties that ended the war was partial US occupation (for many reasons) and they are free to ask us to leave whenever they want, but they’d rather have our base than be a part of China.
The thing that I like about the US is that even after invading a country they are at war with, they will spend millions or even billions in aid to help said country rebuild. They did it with Iraq, Afghanistan, Japan, and several other countries. The Berlin Airlift is probably the best example of this
That is another thing. They used to publish this. The last report I ever saw on it, as a Contracting Officer, was around 2005. At that time we outspent by almost double, the next highest spending government in the world. It was astronomical and it has increased over a thousand fold since then.

Germany used to have 88 US military bases and closed at least 11. Back in the 1980s, I remember driving around rural georgia(USA) and getting lost. I ran into a place that looked like a secret military site. There were no street signs, no life, nothing but trees and an enormous military fence covering lots of land. The military has bases everywhere.
Fun fact: When Spain, my country, joined NATO, we made a deal that consisted in the US removing its bases as we entered the organization. The bases are still there and no one has even tried to do anything about it
USA is exceptional. Before WW2 we (the Hungarians) tried to join the Allies but the USA told us they don't want to upset the Germans. After WW2 the USA told us if we pay a bunch of money they make sure Hungary will be a democracy. We paid the money and they left the country leaving it for the Soviet Union. :) Also in 1956 they promissed support if we rebell against the Russians, we did it and they took over Suez, the americans knew Russia can't intervene in Suez if they have to intervene in Hungary. You have to love them, they are just so dishonest and sometimes evil while they preach about freedom and democracy.
In Greece, you missed the most infamous one, "Souda Bay", on the island of Crete. The largest and most prominent naval base for the United States and NATO in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Although designated as a Greek base officially, or as NATO, everybody here knows it's an American base, heavily used for all the Middle East operations.

American servicemen tend to hate their recruiter, because recruiters often have to lie or deceive would-be recruits to get them to sign up (because they have to meet recruitment quotas).
It also just depends, I went in knowing the recruiter was going to lie and just asked if they had the job open that I wanted. The biggest thing is that you have benefits but getting those benefits are so deep in redtape that it’s not worth trying for it.

The thing is, the base itself is still the base of a foreign military power. A military power that has proven time and time again that it is willing to start huge wars.
To me these US military bases in Europe feel like a ticking time bomb.
Additionally, I feel like it takes away some autonomy every nation should have. For example if the US military wants to they can easily control German airspace using these bases and Germany just has to live with that.
And just like that , this was the last time Johnny posted on UA-cam
I actually laughed out loud.
the US military has no problem with people being aware of where they are. being in south america, europe, asia and australia are all signs of trust/alliance/friendship.
americas business in the middle east and more recently africa is almost completely open to the public, we train their militaries and protect their civilians.
The joke "Look how close they put their country to our military bases" is not a joke at all.

I remember while serving my mandatory military service (I'm a Korean btw) I've met some USA soldiers who were great guys. I got to know them since I speak decent English and Korean military don't have many of those. I remember them telling me that their worst adversary wasn't North Korea, but it was their military recruiter.
American servicemen tend to hate their recruiter, because recruiters often have to lie or deceive would-be recruits to get them to sign up (because they have to meet recruitment quotas).
@@bluntcabbage6042
Whereas Korea has conscription which producers lower quality soldiers overall
It also just depends, I went in knowing the recruiter was going to lie and just asked if they had the job open that I wanted. The biggest thing is that you have benefits but getting those benefits are so deep in redtape that it’s not worth trying for it.
Coming from a veteran here, the drill sergeants in basic training tell you, "dont hate us, hate you recruiter" so seems pretty accurate.

Totally agree rimon, they spend taxpayers money on these military supplies. It's like use the list of other so that you don't have to show what you really have.
I thought it was funny how pompous both were about this. Here they are bitchin about our pressence everytwhere and all the tax dollars going to waste... ahhhhh hello you just said it, Johnny Harris. Our tax Dollars pay for this. If we are paying for all these bases and instalations and what not... gotta keep the lights on... gotta know where to send the bill... Foolish to think otherwise.

you see its important for us military presence around the world because of shit heads like china and the concentration camps they have, or all the genocide conflicts we've tried to stop. Jaandar Khan: What? Makes no sense at all. I think people get confused between winning a war but losing the objective. One small unit took out around 50% of the taliban within a couple months. The rest scattered across the border and was HIDING till we recently pulled out. Just like when people talk about Vietnam war they talk as if the US troops were being overrun and lost. The US never lost a battle in Vietnam and had a kill ratio of around 60+\1 but they lost the objective because the VC hid till we were pulling out. Plus our generals at the time (like today) were and are some of the worse this country ever had. It’s even worse today.

Yes. The said military bases exist in those countries in close proximity to Russia and China because they are aggressive.
