I grew up with normal music. I didn't understand the the sexual lyrics anyways. I turned out just fine. No trouble with the police or anything. Jeannie had problems because of her abuse and pain. Not because of the music she listened to.
Ivy I couldn’t agree more! My parents made it well aware that I am not aloud to repeat those curse words and I listen to those old songs now and finally get what they mean
None of their kids are getting to an age of well... None of them hit puberty, yet. Wait till they just hit MS alone - in these days... This is a whole 'nother world. You gotta factor in all the different aged kids they're exposed to, as well. Basically, in short, this is an internet world. & It terrifies the f outta me. But I think I'd be more ignorant to think my kids gonna be more cuddly, cute, precious & innocent still than to see the world for what it is - today. If the dark web exists, tom exists, Trump exists ,,,, exists, how the hell am I suppose to control the world, let alone my kid? All I can do is tip toe my way around, w/ out being too intrusive...These kids are def going at a faster rate. If not physically, def. mentally. It's the exposure! I'm not gonna put my kid on blast. I just go through things on yt & explain things to her. I'd rather her find things out through me first than through anyone else. As far as music, alot of other parents actually listen to Some of the same things I listen to. She once put me on blast for letting her listen to Eminem's, the kids 😅... But it was a cute insta speech she made about me. I just was internally embarassed bc idk all these other parents... & I didn't want them coming for me. .. which they didnt. but in her defense, her dad's a mess. In em's defense, she knew some things before I ever introduced her to that song, & I doubt he knows she even exists. But it was kind of a fun way to still get parent cool points bc I picked up on the south park reference. Which apparently she thinks came later than me... But I also made her watch j.d.c & the sorts. I love the brat but she's def hard to handle. Good luck to everyone else tho. & If I had to be real, I'm sure there's some songs I listened to that I shouldn't have been listening to. They did hang in the back of my mind. But I only understood them, when it was my time.
Mine put a block on MTV. But I'd be going through the channels & I'd see porn, like k, nice 👍... I didn't have interest in it. I just wanted to watch MTV. I cracked that code tho, & it was 6969 🤢.
My best friends mom is Cameroonian and she doesn’t know at all. When they curse around her she doesn’t even blink. It’s interesting to me. I definitely don’t curse around her even though I know she doesn’t understand.
I thought that was a bit judgmental because Jeanie has turned out alright. It's not her fault that she went through so much, things do happen but I believe that what she was saying is that her experiences has shaped her into the focused and driven woman that she is today. Jeanie has a big heart, especially for her to find it in her heart to forgive her family... it takes a special type of person to do so. I recommend that Tamera try not to make those facial expressions when someone express themselves because what Jeanie meant was CONSIDERING THE CIRCUMSTANCES she turned out better than most would have had they been in the same situations.
@@stoneghana4171 No they do not talk "reckless" at school. I grew up listening to all kinds of music r&b, hip hop, rap, rock, jazz, classical, pop, also radio disney of course. I personally gravitate more towards r&b and hip hop now. But I can assure you I did not speak RECKLESSLY at school. Music does not cause that poor parenting does. I listened to music with all kinds of swearing and crazy lyrics (Eminem and Linkin Park are the ones that first come to mind when I think crazy lyrics and swearing) and I was allowed to sing along, but my parents taught me that was okay to do, but it was not okay to go around saying those things to other people or just randomly. Censoring everything for your kids will ultimately not be the most beneficial thing it is the parents responsibility to teach right from wrong kids will find a way anyway not that that makes it okay. But it is foolish to blame explicit music for the bad behavior of children when parents don't make the effort to actually parent.
Dana Flamenco I listened to music with cursing as well. But I was not allowed to listen to it around my mother. All my mother listened to was gospel. So I was raised to know that language like that was unacceptable. When you play it around your children you teach them that it’s ok. I’m a high school sped teacher these kids have no respect at all. They speak reckless around everyone.
@@stoneghana4171 Again that is due to poor parenting not listening to cursing. And it is wrong to generalize kids or anyone like that and sit and blame music rather than the poor job parents do at parenting.
I love Adrienne's point. I was raised in a Christian household. No secular music other than an occasional Motown but even that. Very strict mother! ♡ Loni looks beautiful♡♡🇦🇬🇦🇬
My children are playing the piano and I was honored when for her first performance my daughter chose a worship song. She keeps doing it and they difficult songs to play and sing but she does both..train a child in the way she should go and she will not depart from it..
Adrienne you better preach!!! Sermon of the day Planting the Seed..Amen..my mother couldn’t have said it better, my mom used to say if you leave the church or stay whatever you do keep God first..and she planted that seed..like you said you may not get it as a child, but when you grow you have that understanding.
Your kids will most likely not remember and don’t care in the slightest lol. I know all of us that are around 20 listen to it now and be like “damn, that’s what it said 😯 oh well”
My mom had a broad taste in music and it never affected me. I was raised with Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Radiohead, Papa Roach, Blind Melon, John Meloncamp, Metallica etc I could go on for hours. It never affected me. In fact it taught me to think of the experiences the singers were writing about.
*chiiillleee i grew up in the 2000’s lmao telling kids now-a-days they can’t listen to certain types of music wont stop them; they’ll just do it when you’re not around. music is easily accessible, so forcing a certain type down your childrens’ throats won’t do anything but cause them to keep their headphones in* 🤷🏾♀️
To each their own. Music is easily accessible, so what. When they were not around, I would listen to my parents music too. Yeah I listened to some crazy stuff, but let's not exaggerate. life is not a jenmifer love hewitt movie. We all aren't out here up to something the minute our parents left the house.
Aliyah ‘ I grew up just listening to Christian music. I didn’t really start listening to as my mom says “secular” or “worldly” music until I was like 16. Before that I listened to all types of Christian music and when I was younger I listened to music on Disney channel shows. When I have my own children someday, I definitely don’t want them to hear explicit lyrics at a young age. I may not make them wait until they’re 16 though; I don’t know yet🤷🏽♀️
Mary Forbes kids always find a way lol they’ll listen to their ‘worldly’ music when you’re not around . I listened to explicit music growing up & I turned out fine
Jujubee I completely agree. That’s why I said that’s the way I was raised, and the way I might wanna raise MY children. I’m not saying that all children who grow up listening to secular music are gonna turn out bad. It depends on the parent and the kid
I think instead of telling kids what they can’t listen to you should fill your house with the type of music you hope they listen to and give them other options and show them the beauty of music and that there are so many kinds of music that they don’t have to listen to JUST with their friends are listening to. Give your kids options instead of just cutting them off from the world.
I KNOW I’m not the only one who spit out my water when Adrienne said “Bust down in the playground” lmaooooooo that sounded so fucking wrong 💀💀💀 omggg I’m crying lol
That doesnt mean they're not gonna listen to their own music when your not there or when they're at school. Kids and teens are always gonna find a way to do what they want behind their parents back, especially if they're strict.
Now days music don’t even disguise the word they are using tbh I’m just now finding out what 112 and next was talking about in peaches and cream and too close
Bob the Builder I think there’s a difference between being strict though and explaining. I’m not saying ‘don’t do it’ cause I said so. No I will have that open conversation and highlight the importance of feeding yourself with positive things and being a person of integrity. Yes can’t watch them every minute but they will know once your in the house there are rules and they are there for their good.
When I was in Kindergarten, our bus drivers at school used to play the radio, back when they could play all kinds of music. We used to listen to the “thong song” and other R&B songs during the ride 😂 I turned out just fine
LOL is kinda funny I grew up pentecostal just like A and Tam and I feel like the music I listened to growing up really did have a big impact in my life. Specially because the music I was exposed to triggered in me good emotions. I can even say in a way it shaped my personality. Im very spiritual very trusting in God and I know that worship music motivated me to do so. I feel like the music that we often listen to influences one's lingual and thought process so is important to be conscious for the sake of our kids. while a child is young is best to create standards for them and, more importantly teach them that there is a time for everything specially for certain music. I will say though I can relate to Jeannie lol. When I first moved into NYC from DR I was learning english and although my mom spoke it as well she didn't bother to learn curse words or the slangs so me and my brother would trick her all the time. Make her think a bad word meant something else we thought it was funny but just that. (lol not proud ) but in the end it feels good to know that I can look back at my childhood and know that I was a happy child.
1:33 Exactly Adrienne! I say the same thing all the time. I may have been raised in a strict religious household, but I LOVE my morals, values and faith. It is disgusting when I see little girls on Instagram gyrating to x-rated music.
If you raise your kids to have morals and values and to RESPECT; music will just be music, it will not influence them in such a way that that think they should talk that way or follow those footsteps. My parents never prohibited us from ANY music. Music shouldn't raise you, your parents should.
This is what I was saying. People are completely missing this. Wish your comment had more likes. But most people don't see it that way. Edit: People just want to put the blame on something other than the parents and that is ridiculous.
I know this is old but everything can influence young minds even with the best parents in the world so why not give them a head start? Good parenting sometimes includes keeping children from explicit music, games, television, movies etc. I mean there is a reason we don't allow little children to watch porn, so why allow the kids to listen to the songs and watch videos that are sending the same explicit message? @Dana Flamenco
That’s right Jenni! Our Asian parents didn’t understand English so we did get away with it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️I’m so glad your someone I can understand n relate too on THE REAL! 🙌
I really appreciated this topic for Girl Chat because I'm a single parent of a young daughter and we both love music. In our apartment complex, you can obviously see where kids that are often times too young to be listening to such language are AND THEIR PARENTS LET THEM! I agree with that it's all about how you were raised because like Tamera and Adrienne, I wasn't allowed to listen to secular music as a child. I started getting into it more in middle school and especially in high school, but I snuck and did it. But even then, I wasn't into all the cussing. What some people don't realize is that everything you listen to (music, movies, TV shows - literally EVERYTHING) plants some sort of seed in your life. I agree with @N C in that "Just because you take out the explicit words doesn't mean that you erased the underlining message of the song." PLEASE be aware of what you're listening to especially when you're blasting it because it doesn't just affect you. It affects everyone else around you whether you realize it or not.
Lmaooo this whole conversation has me weak. The mother said “at least he’s listening to music” 😂🤦🏻♀️ &Why does Adrienne “LOVE!” Kids bop? & when Jeannie said “bust down in the playground?” her face!! Too funny.
lol i was six years old and screaming "ITS GETTING HOT IN HERE!!! SO TAKE OFF ALL YOUR CLOTHES!!!" with like 3 of my other friends every time it came on the radio
I was just talking about that the other day...when you have parents that are immigrants you get away with listening and watching things that maybe others would frown upon, but I turned out more than okay, and I know what to say around who. And it’s so true for whatever reason immigrants parents still know the bad words definitely make sure you’re not saying them.
Actually my dad seemed to have had an open mind. But when I was young, I thought the kids who listened to older rock was just trying to be cool. Stuff like the Beatles. When I was a young adult, I still disliked older rock. Like -70s/80s rock. Got a bit older, had my kid & it's like I got flooded by old memories. Like wth is in my head? Yt'ed things & was like oh... Well, hello childhood... Wow, I never realized how many Beatle songs I knew. I always thought I knew nothing about them. ,,
I listened to explicit music when I was younger and I turned out just fine! I didn’t understand the lyrics, I just danced to the music but my mom also told me what part of the song I could and could not sing.
Listingin life its very important to teach or children that i can listing to all type of muisc like Gospel and praise and worship and so the culter of where the partents use to come from and what songs there parents and great grand parents use to listing to but the best thing is to listing to is praise and worship now as i am growing up i listing to virtes of music praise and worship and soul and old school music and R&B music so its good to show your children that u can listing to all especailly your afro beats where your parents came from but its best to teach them right i also grow up in a christian house hold i listing to praise and worship and other songs
To me, it’s about preserving the innocence of being a kid! I would be so mad at my parents if they took that from me. My parents let me be a kid and see the world as this beautiful place until I got older and was exposed to it. But I was old enough to understand and was ready to handle and process it.... kids are not ready for the stuff that adults are.. and somewhere we have ALL forgotten that
It's not about trying to hide things from your children, it's all about age appropiatenes. We give our children to much at one time. They don't have anything to look forward to. I was so excited when I got to see my first pg13 movie and so on and so forth. That's why children are ending up a little to grown before their time. Children's minds aren't completely developed and they can't handle things the way we adults do. The message that we take from the inappropriate music and movies definitely won't be the same message that the kids will take from it. Kids are only kids once and will be grown the rest of their lives, please let them have their innocence 😍!
Just because you take out the explicit words doesn't mean that you erased the underlining message of the song.
Exactly
Exactly!
Exactamente!
But that’s why they were saying kidz bop. Because it takes out anything that can have a questionable message.
Exactement !

Belinda Joy that's wuzup
If you raise your kids to have morals and values and to RESPECT; music will just be music, it will not influence them in such a way that that think they should talk that way or follow those footsteps.
My parents never prohibited us from ANY music. Music shouldn't raise you, your parents should.
This is what I was saying. People are completely missing this. Wish your comment had more likes. But most people don't see it that way.
Edit: People just want to put the blame on something other than the parents and that is ridiculous.
@@danaflamenco thanks!
@Dana Flamenco
Balance and culture. That's the way to go
Amen! Stand up for Jesus!
Tamera is effing STUNNING good lawd!! 😍
1:30 TAMERA SERVING LOOKS UGHHHH😍😍😍
Loni always looks like she's ready to clock out when it's time for web exclusives😂😂
That’s right Jenni! Our Asian parents didn’t understand English so we did get away with it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️I’m so glad your someone I can understand n relate too on THE REAL! 🙌
Loni acting like how I act when I know I'm off in 5 minutes 😂😂😂😂 she's ready to clock out
“Worldly secular music” 🎵
And Jeannie lmao 😂
When Jeannie broke out in that Vietnamese accent and set rachecity😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
A lot of explicit songs have great messages. So I will let my kids listen to it if there is a good message for life.
Too funny.
In the words of Loni “these heffas are fineeeee”.
Can’t wait for season 6!
I appreciate these web exclusives.
Why doesn't Loni talk much on these segments?
the only rapper kids should be listening to is Lauryn Hill, put them on Miseducation and they'll be inspired for life.
LOVE that album
Truth
My name is wyclef, & I approve this message...
kids have been listening to “explicit lyrics” since the 90s, this isn’t anything “new”, i was one of them 😂😂😂
My mom played all sorts of songs when I was growing up. I thought Ginuwine was singing about a horse until I was a teenager! 😭
My momma lets me but I don’t cuss
(EDIT) thanks for the likes
Same
Me too.
Same
lol i was six years old and screaming "ITS GETTING HOT IN HERE!!!
I listened to it too, my brother lets his son listen to it and repeat to the curse words.
I listen to ‘Too $hort’ and some ‘Kirk Franklin and the family’ and I’m a well rounded human being lol 😂
I love Adrienne’s outfit 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

But I was old enough to understand and was ready to handle and process it.... kids are not ready for the stuff that adults are.. and somewhere we have ALL forgotten that
My favorite thing is Tam Tam describing kids bop as something new🤣🤣🤣
Tamera can wear anything. She just looks so glamorous 💕💕
Bust down in the play ground 🤣🤣 Jeanie killed me
The ladies look so beautiful individually and collectively😍
Mowrey .. is soooo beautiful.. love them all
It's not about trying to hide things from your children, it's all about age appropiatenes.
Tamara, Kidz Bop has been around for years. They have tortured many ears and souls.
Adrienne's shoes are everything
I had radio Disney and B101 and that's all my mom wanted me to hear 😌
My dad was a DJ so I listened to everything!
