- A heavy westbound intermodal/autorack combination train works its way up the kicking horse pass towards the continental divide on the Laggan Subdivision.
Power is two ES44ACs on the head end (Athearn + Intermoutain) and another ES44AC (Athearn) mid train remote 2/3rds of the way in.

Still compressed compared to the prototype, a typical CP grain train is ~90' long in HO scale : O Really shows how big these things are in real life. Thanks for the comment!

If your interested Peter this is a great book about Terry Gainer's experience living at the Banff station as a child and later working for Canadian Pacific. I find the railroad history of Banff fascinating.

Always amazed watching indoor and outdoor layouts with extremely long trains going through curves without pulling itself off the track. Understand the weight issue. Just neat to watch.
These are by far the hardest trains to get to run good. Intermodal is especially hard because a lot of the cars are light and prone to a wheel riding up from too much buff force or stringlining from too much draw force.
But were always up for a challenge.

FUnny, my long-awaited Genesis Gp38-2.s in CP Rail Paint is about to arrive from Germany. I just was able to pay for them and I find a pair of them on your video. That is a freak timing! I am looking forward to seeing a train snaking around that S bend by the waterfront once it is sceniced, that will be a cool spot to railfan on! You have done a ton of progress there since I last time made a comment, the CP section will be incredible and your attention to detail is great. I really like the concept of it as instead squeeze in as many switching spots to always limited space you will have the illusion of a train making a progress during its long journey and there is space of the scenery to make the train, how long it be dwarfed by the surroundings. Keep those videos coming. By the way, I blame you for getting those CP Rail Geeps... lol Cheers Mate!

It happens 2x every lap around the layout, the realities of having single track in between two reverse loops. Some day when I finish the signalling I hope to be able to automate it with JMRI.

Very nice long train The most I ever could do is 3 feet then the Engine would heat up. They make the Trains Engine better now

Wow...was that a 7-minute lap around your layout? The train looked awesome negotiating the S-curves over the “soon” 😊 river scene down the layout....for a moment I forgot I was watching a model during the low angle shot looking up at the mountain 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
It took three full laps around the layout to get all those shots. Roughly 14 minutes per lap at 20 scale MPH. Thanks for the comment!

I see you got a pair of Genesis 38's. Very nice. I got the same two but I renumbered the Multi unit to 3096 as that was one of the last ones to get rebuild and repainted, lasting all the way to early 2014. I wanted to get two Multi units so I could run them back to back, but alas I was only able to get one. They sure sold quick.
Could be a 113 :) Smart to renumber to 3096, I didn't look too deep into it. I'd like a pair of no-multi marks as well. Hopefully they will produce those as well in the future.

I'll have to look up the exact colour but it's basically a mix of 2mm 4mm and 6mm grass from Noch.

I love it, just starting out for my first ever ho model rail road. Im choosing my first dcc system and im torn between NCE power pro 5 amp or digikeijs might you have any suggestions? I am familiar with nce as i had that system for my n scale years ago.
That's great Jay! I would recommend sticking with what you know. If you are already familiar with NCE then use that to your advantage.

What's the significance of the word, 'robotized" in the subject heading? I feel like I'm missing something there.
His train has a DPU (Distributed Power Unit) or 'robot' halfway back through the train to help with train handling and weight distribution. It's called a 'robot' because it is an unmanned unit linked to the lead engine, therefore performing in sync with the lead engine.

What Andrew said. CP is unique in calling them "Robots" which harkens back to the days when they had robot cars that controlled the mid train power. A technology that CP was an early adopter of due to the heavy grades on the Laggan and Mountain subs.
CP crews will say they are "robotizing" a train whereas CN and other class ones will use the term distributed power or remote. Some obscure nomenclature unique to CP.
"OK on the PK" is another one :) translation from CP to English = trackside inspection was good.

My initial question was asked only from a modeling perspective (thinking it may've been some train control technique), rather than it being used as a prototype term, as I've never seen "robotized" used in a prototypical setting.
