CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Carl (Tony Goldwyn) dies escaping from Sam (Patrick Swayze) and is carried away by dark spirits.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
An interesting hybrid of popular film genres, Ghost showcases the talents of its entire cast. While out on the town one evening, New York couple Sam (Patrick Swayze) and Molly (Demi Moore) are confronted by a mugger. After submitting to his demands, Sam is murdered anyway. He then finds himself a disembodied spirit, invisible to the living world, wandering without hope until he finds a spiteful spirit aboard the subway (Vincent Schiavelli) who gives him some helpful pointers on how to co-exist. Soon Sam comes back into contact with those he knew in life, and he begins to learn piece-by-piece of his close friend and co-worker Carl's (Tony Goldwyn) embezzling plot which caused his death; the apparent mugging was, in fact, a premeditated murder. In the meantime, Carl has designs on Molly, and Sam is determined to extract revenge. He contacts a psychic (Whoopi Goldberg), and together, the two set out to serve justice and stop the maniacal Carl from getting to Molly. Blending comedy, romance, action, and horror, Ghost was a box-office smash and managed to garner five Academy Award nominations, including "Best Picture," "Best Supporting Actress" (Goldberg), "Best Original Screenplay," "Best Editing," and "Best Score"; Goldberg won her first Oscar.

I loved Sam's expression throughout this whole scene. He didn't want Carl to die, he wanted Carl to get arrested and pay for his crimes. Possibly a shot at redemption.
If he didn’t want Carl to die then why did he laugh evilly and say “They’re gonna kill you, Carl”?
I think it’s more a look of grief for all the betrayal he’s gone through.
@@pussthepupanddonkeythedog5135We can say a lot of harsh things while angry, especially in Sam’s tragic situation, which was provoked by his best friend, who he trusted the most, but sometimes we don’t mean them.
That’s a true man
Willing to punish but not murder
Beautful
@pussthepupanddonkeythedog5135 i think it's because of what Sam saw happened to Willie he didn't want that to happen to Carl either, he knew Carl would receive the same fate and he didn't want that. Ya I know earlier in the movie he said" They're going to kill you Carl, you and willie" but at the end of the day I don't believe he meant it. Since that was his best friend
I think he wanted Carl to live but rather him receive his punishment behind bars instead receiving death and eternal damnation.
Ghost from carl's perspective is basically a horror movie.
It was double the horror movie to Willie Lopez.
@@sparrowprince3432 Willie was the one who killed Sam, so it was super cathartic that Sam saying "You're dead, Willie" was the last thing Willie heard before he got dragged to hell.
Well, it's about a ghost after all.
He deserved what he got
At least he gets to see Willie again.
It's beautiful how the shadows never mess with Sam, they don't approach him, they keep distance. Sam was pure light.
They were just doing their job. Take the bad guys away.
@@lilahdog568yeah they were pretty effective. What’s up Sam? What’s up Ralph? Lol
cause he was a pure soul
Sam lived a good life and died and unclean death.
Jesus is pure light
A single 2-minute scene made a feel-good romantic comedy into a terrifying horror film. Pure genius.
Honorable scary mention: the subway ghost.
Carl would have felt the pane as he died.
I watched this when I was 12. I was literaly scared by this scene. Nthing to see with the whole movie, such a dark scene.
Calling this a feel good romantic comedy is a bit of a stretch
@@rogeredwarrddeshon5000Carl was an optimist, a real glass-half-full sort of guy.
anybody else found it kinda heartbreaking that Carl actually looked happy and relieved when he "saw" Sam again....right before the realization of his situation
Joel Ottley Yeah, and Sam's face makes it worse because despite of what Carl did he still cared for him. What hurt Sam the most was that he knew what was coming after seeing what happened to Willie and it hurt him to know what was waiting for Carl.
I'm not sure it was relief or happiness. Seemed more like stilted, embarrassed and awkward surprise.
Yeah I felt the same way
Antichrist2000 Yeah, Carl said all he wanted Willy to do was to steal Sam's wallet. But still, he tried to kill Oda Mae and Molly afterwards, so that made him essentially no better than Willy.
Nope he had it coming
Carl seemed legitimately happy to see his friend again. Sam was still sympathetic in spite of what happened. He knew Carl was about to be heading south for the eternal winter.
When Hell Freezes Over!
Yeah he is heading south. The Deep South hahaha lol
Come home to roost
The eternal spitroast
I thought hell was eternal fire! Unless you read Dante's inferno and he's headed into the circle of traitors!
The look on Sams face is so heartbreaking. Despite what Carl did to him, he still feels bad for him because he knows what happens next
What does happen next? Some demons rough up Carl a little. Then what?
@@jackjules7552 Oh, I don’t know. Torture? Fire? Hopefully, I never find out
Yall realize Carl didint kill Sam right?
@@Boss2164 He orchestrated it. Same thing. lol
@@julezjohn5785I agree. Carl orchestrated the mugging to get the computer codes that Sam had in his wallet. He didn't want Willie to kill Sam, and he even chastised Willie for it, telling him "You killed a man. You were only supposed to get his wallet." Willie was the trigger happy one who went above and beyond, replying to Carl's chastising with, "Man, that was a free one." Still it was Carl's actions that inadvertently led to Sam's death but Carl actually did tell Willie to kill Oda Mae.
Sam was such a good man. He can't, but he still steps forth as if he can save Carl from being impaled and he's genuinely shocked by what happens to Carl. The part where he says, "Oh, Carl" gets to me every time. It's Sam saying, "How could you do this? Look what you've done to yourself."
SAM GOES TO HEAVEN THE END. NOW MOLLY AND OLDA MAE CONTINUE. LOOK EWWWW CARLS DEAD BODY HELL NO WE NEED TO CALL MORTUARY MEN TO GET IT OUT. THANKS SAM YOU LEFT A BAD FLESH IN OUR NEW HOME AND WENT TO GOD
I don't think it was that really. It was more a combination of compassion and pity. After seeing what happened to Willie, he knew what fate was in store for Carl. It was almost as if he was saying, "I know you didn't mean to have me killed, but it's too late. I'm sorry for what's about to happen."
@@franklinsannicolas2409YOU Should be a Comedian 😂
I always found it really heartbreaking how Carl looks almost relieved to see Sam like as if nothing had ever happened and he had woken up from a bad dream until the realization kicked in and realized that he was dead too.
Faeries_Xylia 923 ya it's like his ghost had a alter ego, it's like this Carl was more innocent oppose from the human Carl who was a jerk and sinister,
benjamin judah I always felt that Carl behaves as if he had woken up from a bad dream or believed he was given a second chance by some unknown force and once he saw Sams disappointment and he then turns around to realize karma bitten him hard
Carl was greed and selfish at heart, but he never truely intended for Sam to be killed. He only got willie to try and rob him

Come on dude wake up. He didn’t really die. He just died in the movie so he could be a ghost fool. You’re a funny guy dickless. 😂
This is one of the most haunting depictions of Hell: you don’t see it, you just know that Carl is going somewhere so dark that shadows are drawn to it, and somewhere truly horrible. The fact that where they drag him seems to be always located in a dark corner, and the wailing of the demons/damned souls adds to that haunting feeling.
Whoever was good was that of an atom's weight will see it and whoever does evil was that of an atom's weight will see it.
There is no hell. It is a fabrication meant to scare people into giving a man behind a pulpit wealth and influence in the hope they go someplace "good" when they die, not some place "bad".
Those demons deserve an Oscar for their performance!
fun fact: Carl's dead body was there that entire time they were saying that beautiful goodbye in the last scene
Well, yes yes it is, now isn't it? LOL! In all these 30 years this movie's been out it's never occurred to me until now! Never gonna see the ending the same ha ha

The look on Sam's face when he realized what was about to happen to his best friend. Yes, the man was responsible for his death, but still, Sam's humanity wasn't beyond compassion, and I believe it's that being able to forgive that showed Sam was proven for peace in eternity.
Even as the broken window is about to impale Carl, Sam still tries to save him.
He didn't wish this fate upon him. But Carl chose it for himself.
Sam knows it. That sad look on his face as Carl is dragged away says "It didn't have to end this way. This was such a waste. Why?"
But Carl didn't intend for him to die, just be scared off. Willie panicked when Sam fought back and killed him.
Wrong!!!!! If you are not covered by the Blood of Jesus the Christ then you are doomed for eternity! Those shadow monsters will be coming for you!!!!!!!!
Swayze's acting rescues some bad special effects. He never wanted Carl dragged to hell, he just wanted to knock him around.
You could tell he wanted to stop the hook from swinging again, which brought down the window, but probably wouldn't have been able to muster the psychic strength to do it (remember, the subway ghost told him he had to focus).
The way he tried to save him shows what kind of man he was, mad respect ✌️
The genuine look of fear on Sams face when he heard the screams of the dark spirits, even though he had witnessed prior it with willie, thats some great acting.
Those evil ghosts/demons still scare the shit out of me. As a kid, they were like the personification of Hell to me. So dark and macabre.
up. these shadow beings are fuckin scary as shit... so simple in design and concept.. they remind me of a kids drawing for halloween.. 2 dimensional shadows... plus the way they sound.. so scary.. these things are way more terrorfying then a traditional demon with horns and wings, it seems more realistic...

I like how Sam has a fear of the demons as he steps back away from Carl as they come for him.

As an audio engineer, I know how they did the sound of the specters. Take a baby crying sound effect, slow it down, reverse it, and pitch it all the way down to get the desired effect.
What makes Carl's death so scary is how it plays out, no big vortex that sucks him in or loud fiery pit to fall into. He's just pushed by the demons into the shadows of the background and simply disappears, he's just gone.

Real talk, if you even believe one person goes to hell, just one, and that hell is the ultimate suffering and is eternal, you're a pretty sick excuse of a human being. Actually one of the ways to get a real reaction with Harness related effects is to assure the actor that you will pull the Harness at the count of 3 then pull it 2 seconds before. That's how they got Hans Gruber's reaction in Die Hard and that's probably how they got Carl's actor to make that face. They probably pulled on the Harness when he least suspect it.

Don’t scare the kids saying that, we did not have close when we were born, so our souls don’t need close after we die! It’s the kind of life that you lived, that’s what God knows!
Fun Fact:
The groaning voices of the Shadow Creatures were used from the recordings of crying babies that were customized to be slowed-down and lower-pitched to sound eerie.
play at 2.0 speed
thats creepy...but makes sense
but In real life it's the same .......
Ha ha ha ha ! He looks just like Rik Mayall in bottom with his white shirt when the demons drag him down ! The face he pulls ! 😆😆😆
Little known fact. Tony Goldwyn actually died in this scene. That's why he hasn't aged in 30 years.
Actually, He became a CEO of a cloning company called Replacement Technologies.
Those noises from hell are absolutely epic for this scene
Brilliant idea that the "dark shadows" come to life and drag the soul to hell.
Fun Fact: The "noises from hell" is actually the sounds of crying babies slowed down to make it menacing.
HackneyShark Wikipedia it. it's all there.
I remember this movie from when i was a kid. Its almost more freaky then i remember
Josh Lopez I would like to know how the ghostly images were created...
I find it quite ironic how the antagonist is still alive today but the good guy is deceased.
Death's sense of humor?
+Anon Ymous explain deaths sense of humor?
+barber747 Though in the movie they both died :/
+APRICEPRODUCTION I think barber meant in real life. Patrick is gone, Tony is alive.
+barber747 It was all acting.... maybe in real life Patrick Swayze was the antagonist...
The dark shadow ghosts used to scare me when I was younger, it was the sound they made
Patrick was such a beautiful BEAUTIFUL man....
And to think, Willy and Carl are still burning in hell 'til this day. Eternity is a long long time ...
BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE THEY BELONG AND WHERE THEY NEED TO BE HELPED THEM CROSS OVER AND STOP...... BURNING HELL IN HORROR SCREAMING..... I'M IN HORROR.... BYE BYE SEE YA .... HE SAW THEM...👹👹👹👹👺👺👺👹👺👹
No! Eternity is the absence of time
Even after those demons stop making their sounds you can still hear Carl screaming.
When I was a kid, these were the scariest damn ghosts ever.
I like the fact they came up with a unique look for the demons in this movie, rather than just continuing the monster, horned head type of look.
"Where the hell do you think you're going Carl?"
davsny5 hell like everyone else who has rejected Jesus Christ. Going to hell isnt based on how good or bad you are. It’s based on did you trust Jesus as your only hope to save you from hell and judgment day.
@@ronbo30 dude he was only saying a joke, not an argument or statement.
@@ronbo30 What a load of bible crap. So that basically means that babies who are still not capable of understanding religion etc. will by definition go to hell? And what "nice" guys Jesus and God are if they make people live in eternal pain and let them burn in eternal flames if they are not "members" of the God/Jesus clan. Sick Jesus freaks like you are the reason why I will NEVER belong to ANY religion.
I'M GOING TO HELL WHERE I BELONG AND THE ADVERSARY IS..... BECAUSE THOSE LITTLE DEVILS CAUGHT ME AND LITTLE DEMONS LITTLE...... RED..... I STOPPED MYSELF NOW SAM THIS IS WHERE I BELONG AND GETTING DRAGGED OFF HELL IS THE BRUTAL HORROR OF MY SACRIFICES AND HORROR SCREAMING.... BLOOD AND FOULS THE DEMONS TAKE ME.....💖💖💖💖💖🐉🐉🐉💎 BLOOD AND PARTIAL
“Ghosts!” -Peter griffin
0:59 "Yes.. All goes according to plan"
I lost my marbles seeing the penny on door scene as a kid.
I know that this has been said SO many times, but what goes around, comes around!! ALWAYS remember that!
Sam: "Oh Carl"
Carl: "What"
Me: Think Carl, why are able to see your dead friend all of the sudden?
“Carl and Willie were dumb.” They should of done what “Emilio Estevez” did in “National Lampoon’s Loaded Weapon 1,” when he died and saw those shadow demon’s coming to claim him. He just said “The hell with that” and went back into his body.
😂
But that never work for Reese Witherspoon in Heaven can Wait
She kept coming in and out. Her body wouldn't wake tf up 😂
And what would that do? He would immediately die again - he's got a bloody great piece of glass through his chest. Kinda reminds me of the scene in The Belgariad where Belgarath is explaining the rules of sorcery to Garion, and that they're not allowed to raise the dead. "Why not?" "Because if someone's dead, they're usually dead for a very good reason, like a sword sticking out of him. If you bring him back, he'll just die again anyway. Stick to practicalities, my boy."
I always tripped how although they appear outta nowhere, they seem to be walking down stairs when they take you back. Imagine how that staircase and what’s below it, and all around it, must look like on the other side
even though the special effects are dated, them demon or whatever things they are still are pretty scary
Bit of trivia for y'all, the shadow demons' cries are newborn babies slowed down.
