I've been thinking of downsizing to a chevy trax but didnt know if I could car camp in it like I do my dodge durango. This deff made me feel better about buying it seeing somone else do this!
Hey Heather! me and my boyfriend are 5'6" and 5'10" and were able to sleep in it every night for 3 weeks.. comfortably! and there was room to fully stretch out. We have gone on road trips before where we just fold down the back seats and put a thousand layers of blankets to sleep on, but building this platform was definitely worth it! Good luck :)
Do you have any plans for the design? I am interested in doing something like this myself.

Could you like the measurements you used for the bed?
My wife and i are looking to do the same with our Buick Encore which is identical to the trax. did you guys use cardboard to make a template, or did you guys build it with only measurements?

I just bought a new trax and needs to know how many inches from back of Van inside to the back of the front seats. Considering a sleeping platform or maybe not.

I just bought a 2019 Trax and THEN realized it won't haul a trailer. I have been stressing out trying to figure out how to make a bed in there. Thank you!!! Did you remove the back seats?
I have a class 2 hitch that bolted right on and it came with the plug-in wireing harness, no cutting factory wiring, i got on ebay specifically made for my 2016. The American Trax is the only one "not rated for towing" because of the US's response to "they tell you what you can't do because they don't want to be responsible for your safety if you mess up" I have a 14 ft 1971 Shasta camper trailer and it is fine for the Trax. I won't win any speed races pulling it for sure but getting too aggressive with it would probably just rip the single axle out from underneath the camper anyway before it did anything to the Trax.
Idk about the 19 version but my 16 has the manual pushbutton shifting, which is what is considered the "sport" performance over the automatic transmission economical performance. It is in the Trax's user manual for you to find out if yours has the sport performance mode. And I just looked up online what the my 16 had for towing capability in other countries like Canada. They all were made in the same factory with the same ratings. I also crossed the twin buicks models tow rating info for the US and elsewhere to see how capable it was, as a second opinion to be confident it was under the weight limit to tow.
@@rottnlove so I've done some research myself and you are entirely correct; especially about the Canadian versions of the same vehicles. Yet another crock of crap we are fed. Another recommendation i got, in addition to being able to pull at least 1500lbs, is to use premium gas. Soooo, ill be purchasing my 5x8 cargo trailer after all. Thanks for replying as well. Lots of youtubers don't so I really appreciate it. Happy trails!!!
@@startingoversimplys.o.s.3889 another thing is that the color of the oil filter cap is what determines which oil filter your vehicle uses, it can be brown or black. The info in the user manual won't say anything about there being two types used, both fit but one has an internal spring in the filter and the other doesn't. That's in the 2016 Trax anyway.

Wow watching the struggle getting the platform in was painful to watch. You know it would have went in without the wedged issue putting it in the rear doorway at an angle and then once it's in lay it flat.
This is why tetris was so difficult for so many.
