So unbelievably good. As always. Was thrilled to meet the man some years back, and he was just the most casual, down to earth genius I've ever met. And every performance is a treasure.
I want to work at NPR so I can watch this kind of stuff on my lunch break, while drinking coffee from the kitchen on the hall, and eating the slightly-overripe banana and jar of peanut butter I 'packed' for lunch.
Joe Boyd is the alan Lomax of London and england. He brought us - with zest Anne Briggs, Fairport convention , Nick Drake. Floyd I didn't even know about lol. What a beautiful humble open soul. Robyn owes so much to syd. His whole style is in terrapin.
NPR's "politics"? give me a break---NPR is a breath of fresh air and a rare break from the sterile mainstream Walmart music world brought to you by Fox. Their "politics" are downright neutral compared to the crap rammed down our throats by the boardroom-approved alternatives
Actually, the entirety of global/corporate media is Soros-backed, Cabal owned. Left-wing to the max. You'll hear not an independent journalist here. No real research. NEXT! All pro-"Democrat". Every pocast by Alec Baldwin and Terri Gross is anti-Trump, which of course you love. Have at it.
Tension between artistic production as zone of liberty with artistic reception as commercialized transaction, reminds me of the big party at Bunny's in season 1 of "Mozart and the Jungle" which is a psychedelic panorama snapshot of classical music intersecting with old money putting art in its place. "Do we make music to raise money or raise money to make music?" The absence of money isn't even registered as a possibility in the formulation of the question. Humans can live without it and to reach deep, art must touch the part of our souls that is so capable.
+Robert Monk That reminds me of John Gallagher Jr.He once said he acts in order to play music.(Newsroom,American Idiot)He is a talented musician as well as a great actor.
Joe can't be expected to know absolutely everything, but it is in fact possible to know what Pink Anderson and Floyd Council sounded like, as some of their 78's have been discovered.
Wow, such great prose from Joe and music from Robyn. I have to read Joe's book I bought and have by my old couch where I sleep and dream. Does anyone know what open tuning Robyn is using with "I saw Nick Drake?
I have long ago given up trying to learn how to play songs the way Robyn does; he's a special breed. I just end up figure out the bass note and playing a much-less-interesting chordal approach.
@@SDSsongs I have to laugh as to how modest you are! I just listened to several of your songs and wow! I just clicked on your icon and glad I did! You have that dusty voice so many wish they had and sing with such emotion. I like how you combine bass and lead with your guitar too. You are very modest as I suspected you are a very special breed too!
Something about Robyn Hitchcock's voice always sounds like he thinks he's either terribly clever or downright hilarious. Maybe that's just because he usually is one or both of those.
Can someone with a notch filter take out the ~60hz hum behind the introductory talking? They seem to have got it during recording before the music begins, at least.
I haven't had a foot massage since college. She was beautiful. A little pixie who came and went like a breeze. We never had sex but that massage was better than any fucking sex I ever had. And best of all, we massaged each other's feet at a party. In front of all our friends! Goddamn. Oh yes, I have lived.
I thought you can’t go wrong, doing an interview with Joe Boyd, until I saw this! Having that guy play awful guitar and trying to sing, not a great idea…
I saw Robyn play I Saw Nick Drake in Brighton just a few weeks ago (February 2023) and time stood still. Still one of the best all rounders out there.
Looong live Joe Boyd - without him our music would miss sooo much.
Honored to meet Robyn Hitchcock this week! the real deal!
I can't believe I went 56 years without hearing Nick Drake. Thanks!
wow good you finally found his music!
That is one of Robyn's greatest of great shirts
Watched this nth time and still not bored. Thank you to Roger, Nick, Joe and Robyn.
I could listen to Joe Boyd all day.
He was there.
Me too.... The legends he's met over the year and got to produce is astonishing; Syd, Nick and Richard Thompson... stellar.
Hitchcock is a great guitarist along with his other great talents as a songwriter and singer.

I'd be sure to put my phone on silent and chew with my moth closed.
That was lovely, thank you. It was nice getting to hear some of Joe Boyd's observations of that very brief special time.
nice briefly meeting you in edinburgh years ago joe...lovely heartfelt commentary you gave about syd

well spoken chapper
Some people just stand out as human beings. Robyn Hitchcock stands as tall as skyscrapers.
I think he’s about 5’ 10”

Well yes, absolutely - there are some very indoctrinated odd bods about these days.

Was wondering about this
This is fucking great.
OH Thank You!!
I like the idea here, but it’s more fitting for two hours than 20 min or so

8:50 Well put by Joe, here's a ch'une I wrote inspired by his incredibly personal commentary. "escape velocity"... bandcamp lookup 1adam12
Shine on
His name is spelled "Robyn."
How many skipped directly to the Nick Drake section?

Is there anything else you'd like the uploader to do for you? make you a hot cup of tea, bake a chocolate cake, massage your feet?

I don't care for npr's politics, but they, in my opinion, have an amazing ear for eclectic music!
Yikes
