SOR4 is one of my favorite games of all time. If you've never played it, what are you doing??? Get on it now! My guide to SIFU went over really well, and I know no one is talking about this game right now. But I wanted to do the same kind of guide, for anyone who wants to get into it.
Ever since playing SoR4 it's been hard for me to get into other sidescroller beatemups because I can never fully shake the feeling that I'd rather just be playing Streets of Rage 4 instead. Cannot thank you enough for covering this game back when you first did, you introduced me to one of my favorite games to show to friends
I am a simple man, I see anything positive for SoR4 and I hit the like button. Its one of those beat em ups that at first seems pretty 1 dimensional but the more you play it you realize it has the depth of a fighting game but in beat em up form.
Underrated video. I've never seen such an in-depth guide to a beat em up game. I beat this game years ago, but your video makes me want to play it again and delve into the deeper mechanics. I also love fighting games, and it's super cool to see how many fighting game mechanics come to play in a game like this. Like, you're literally frame trapping some enemies that punish the gaps in your strings. You whiff punish some enemies, and use oki setups on down opponents. It's beautiful. Also your video just teems with love for this game. It made for both an educational and entertaining watch. Great stuff!
Amazing guide, thank you for making it! There aren't many beginner friendly resources around for this game, but this definitely helps a ton. Very informative and well explained!
great video as always man - I was running this game when it first came out (currently sit 6th place Blaze on Switch V04), it's amazing how much they tightened up since then
This is an excellent video. Really well done and structured. The combo run with Blaze at the end was perfect. I’m light years away from being that good.
Love this vid, Mayo! I've finished this game several times but you've shown me how I was playing this game wrong. I've been playing it like SOR2, and not really using the game mechanics to their fullest. Thank you, gonna jump into a few runs now!
Nice! I always wanted to learn this a bit deeper and maybe start doing more competitive runs. This will motivate me to actually start. Thanks Mayo! BTW, OTG is often used as both on/off the ground, but I like it as Off The Ground because you lift the opponent off the ground and are able to continue comboing them. In some games, while there are moves that properly OTG, some times you can just hit them while they’re on the ground for a cheeky extra hit but it won’t lift them off and you won’t be able to extend the combo.
Bro, I'm so grateful for this award. I've just started to get back into this game. I got to say I have almost all the games on the PS5 and yet this one always brings me back. This is arguably the best beat em up ever, super exciting to see your guide. I'm definitely going to learn from it 👊 appreciate you 👊 🔥
Already left a like and will watch later. Ran through the game once and experimented with the other characters in training mode. I am sure this guide will do the game justice.
Thanks for the amazing guide! I would be interested in knowing what other BEUs like SoR4 you (or others who read this) can recommend. You introduced me to Fight 'n Rage and I loved it.
The main difficulty of this game is to know preemptively when you are going to get hit. I watched a lot of masterful playthroughs, and played a plenty myself, and it's still mystery to me. I'm constantly find myself in situation when I do a single step and instantly get hit by some dumb Galsia - with no telegraphing of that attack, no chance to react, just instantly. Like I had to KNOW, in advance, that if I do it, I will be punished. How skilled players do it, I still can't understand.
I played it for the first time last week and I finished it the same day , I got hooked on it so much to a point that I reached level 30 in survival mode . I'll do another playthrough in mania mode this week and try to 100% the game hopefully .
I was finally able to beat Arcade Mode with Blaze on MANIA+ V8 (alternative moves). This video helped me a lot, together with others from guys like Pato, MoonLightFox, and Rilsy. Thanks!
Forget a d-pad and controller, I use an arcade/fight stick. As I do for all beatem up and fighting games, it's better than using a d-pad with a controller layout
I fucking love this game. Got the Platinum trophy for it and played the DLC for it endlessly. I’m not a beginner at the game but fuck it. It’s Mayo talking about SOR4. Gonna grab some popcorn!
Have you ever noticed sometimes Axel's back grapple does a prolonged animation and does more damage? I think I see it but can't replicate it consistently
Its hard for people who played 1 2 and 3 to ajust to a combo based strategy. It kind of frustrated me at first but when i got good at the new playstyle i couldn't imagine how i ever enjoyed playing any other way.
I remember getting this game on the ps4 I had just gotten a couple weeks or days ago it was amazing truly a gold standard of a remake along with the 1st resident evil remake
So what are the points for? is the only reason for getting a higher combo "just" an extralife? Or does it influence your ranking? if so: is there an incentive getting a good ranking? Those were the questions I asked myself while trying this, and I hoped this guide would clarify something I had missed. Oh well, I guess its not my kind of game
@@4fingaz More points will unlock stuff faster too. It also contributes to your end of level ranking. But really, it's so that you can get enough lives to make it through. Play arcade mode and you'll see just how important they are to making it through.
Off topic. But idstudio editor for Doom Eternal just got released. So now the game has full mod support. People have already started making custom maps for the game. So now Doom Eternal, is literally Eternal now. Also, you should check out the Streets of Rage Remake if you haven't yet.
Can't say I got too far into SoR4. Beat the game, sure, but I didn't stick around to unlock much after the fact. SoR2 will forever remain my favourite in the franchise. ... okay, I still have a soft spot for the first game. Blaze was probably my first crush for female video game characters, haha.
I think SOR4 was the best beat em up i played but i will say it lacks defensive options no gaurds no perfect gaurds and evades like in river city girls 2 besides that the game is amazing
@@underthemayo i was in training a moment ago and didnt know this things so now i see their is defencive options just not in the obvius sense more like the exploit sense i was worried their wasnt because in pvp mode it looked like their was no way out of combos and stuff
Story Mode imo is boring after you beat it once. No different endings or branching paths to new areas for any, higher difficulties (for SOR4) - like there was in SOR Remake. Therefore, no incentive to replay SOR4 Story Mode imo. Survival is way, more addicting and a special pain in the azz after level 15 always lol. Imo fighting game mechanics ruin a genre like this. Too many frame traps from enemies; their annoying i-frames, and your character's specials automatically, depleting your health! The game should've had a system for specials similar to SOR3. In conclusion, it's a good game, but could've been far better.
So the people who shit on doom eternal's platforming are the kinds of people that come into a beatem' up tutorial with no connection to Doom and bitch about it there. Yeah that makes sense.
SOR4 is one of my favorite games of all time. If you've never played it, what are you doing??? Get on it now!

Arguably one of the best games to ever be released. An amazing spiritual successor!!
I don’t even know what Sifu was, till now
day fofty somehing of asking u to at least try evil west
Can you checkout wanted dead it's actually similar to this
Funny how you've said that Adam is your go to character, yet you never made a video about him lol. This video definitely makes up for it tho!
SoR4 is the gold standard for developers to take classic gameplay and bring it into the modern era.
Amen

My son and i plays together so i re live my childhood gamer days while spending time with him...great game
I have seriously been looking for an excuse to come back to this game..ty
