  • I have put together a German Blue Ram Care Guide for all of you interested in how to take care of The German Blue Ram.
    The German Blue Ram in a Beautiful, Peaceful and very Social South American Cichlid with a Great Personality.
    Although Cichlids are often thought of as aggressive fish, German Blue Rams are one of the best Cichlids for community tanks.
    The German Blue Ram is a vibrantly colored and peaceful fish, perfectly suited for well established community fish tanks.
    Their eyes are red with a vertical black band that runs down their eyes and their fins are yellow or red with blue lines which are almost transparent. When you see a healthy ram in breeding condition, They display almost every color of the rainbow.
    They need to live in a peaceful community aquarium as they will struggle in an aggressive tank.
    Large aggressive fish are not a good match. Avoid large aggressive Cichlids.
    German Blue Rams can live with almost any community fish that can thrive in the same high temperatures, such as tetras, Cory catfish, plecos, discus, angelfish, and other dwarf cichlids. They don't do well with really fast eaters that will outcompete them for food or larger fish (like oscars) that may consider them food.
    German Blue Rams are not from Germany.
    The name "German blue" refers to a color variation that was selectively bred in Germany and became popular worldwide in the aquarium trade.
    German Blue Ram Cichlids are originally from South America.
    In the wild, they live in the Amazon River, especially the Orinoco River Basin in Venezuela and Colombia.
    Blue Rams are used to slow flowing rivers having plenty of vegetation so it's important to have dense pockets of plants with plenty of open swimming space so plants and rocks are a must in your aquarium. Some good plants you can use for your aquarium are Java Fern, Amazon Swords and Wisteria and most other easy plants.
    German Blue Rams will appreciate a heavily planted tank with lots of hiding places - you can use rocks or driftwood for this.

    My GBR is my center piece fish. He is housed with 2 Ruby Rams, 4 Columbian tetras, 4 Buenos Tetras and assorted loaches. GBR comes to the front of the tank at feeding time and lights up with every color of the rainbow. When I get close and talk to him he squirms like a puppy. He seems to know where to go to be in the best light.

    I'm setting up a 36 gallon that will feature these beauties. Have you noticed any issue with having multiple males in one tank, and are keeping other bottom dwellers like cories OK? Thanks!

    • @TropicalFishGuy
      @TropicalFishGuy  3 роки тому +5

      Yes, multiple males can get a little tricky especially if they are spawning but if you give plenty of hiding spots then it could work out. They have different personalities.

    Wow nice assortment in your tank. I wanted to ask what temp and pH you keeping that tank at? you have emerald Rasboras and rGB ams together. I have those 2 types as well but I keep in separate tanks because of pH and temp requirements are different, or so I thought. I would love to combine emerald rasboras and GB rams just like you did. your an inspiration sir.

    86 degrees is not a “slightly” raised temperature!
    Notwithstanding the fact that Rams can be healthy and happy at 82 degrees where most plants can thrive in a healthy way.

    In your opinion, what should be the hardness of the water for growing ramirese. I measured the water in my aquarium with a TDS hardness of 290 to 330 ppm. Is this indicator good for growing Ramirez? Thank you!

    Hi, I bought an electric blue Ram pair, the male died within a week, but the female is doing well. I only have a 54lr tank, is that big enough for RAMs. Also, if keeping Rams are you better to keep to one pair, or is it better to keep a small group of 4 or 5?

    • @TropicalFishGuy
      @TropicalFishGuy  3 роки тому

      You can keep one maybe two rams in a 54L tank. If the tank is large enough, it is fine to keep a group of 4 or 5 rams. In a small tank its best to keep it to a pair.

      @@TropicalFishGuy Thanks, unfortunately I totalled both my 54l and my 110l tanks last week. I eventually worked out the problem, but lost 14 of my 5 main fish, I was gutted! I was thinking of keeping my smaller tank as a plant/hospital tank and keep my fish in the other. However I now have a Gold ram, a male and female Bolivian ram and a male and female German ram in my 110l tank, I will add a female gold so I have 3 breeding pairs and I will put a pair of electric blue in the small tank. I put a Cockatoo male and two female cockatoos in the tank before the Fishpocalypse, but they just ended up fighting all the time.
