Hey guys, thank you so much for watching! Please consider subscribing to the channel. Were you also blown away by that final monologue from Stallone?? I have more Stallone films to watch, but would you say that monologue is one of if not his best acting moment(s)?
When a kid seeing this movie, it was just badass because it was Rocky and he was kickin' ass, and they deserved it. Seeing it years later-and now watching it with you-makes it so much more important and deep. It really did have a message, even it was buried in the cool 80s kickassery. This score, too; one of my faves. Thanks for the reaction.
Yeah man, I was really surprised by how deep and emotional it was. It's got so much of that awesome 80's action, but behind all that is a man that is severely broken internally. It kind of made me sad how we see him so cheerful and excited at the start when he first talks to the lady, and then we see that shift and he just feels miserable and all alone. Great film and amazing performance by Stallone!
If you watch this as an action movie, it's good. But if you watch this as a man with debilitating PTSD who snaps when he's pushed too far, it becomes a GREAT movie with one of the best monologs of all time, acted incredibly well.
100% agree! I thought I was in for a great action movie, and ended up watching just a great all around film! Stallone had me obnoxiously cheering and also wanting to step through the screen and give him a hug. AMAZING!
It's crazy because apparently they didn't want him to play Rocky and just wanted to purchase the screenplay from him. He held his ground and the rest is history! The final monologue in this film is captivating and it truly felt like I was watching a person fall apart and breakdown in real life. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! :)
According to the book, Sheriff Teasel was in the Korean War and was mad because he wasn’t welcomed home the same way the WWII vets were treated so he became jaded. You can see Teasel’s military medals and stuff around his desk area. After the Vietnam War ended, Teasel did not like Vietnam War Vets and the attention they were starting to get, so he wanted to make sure Rambo was pushed out of town. At a certain point in the story, he actually thought he could use his military training to outsmart Rambo in town which was his territory.
That was his personal reason. But he also believed, as the movie tries to show, that Rambo, who was much more dirty and disheveled in the book. (It’s hinted at in the movie) to be a drifter who needed to move on. The movie doesn’t explain it very well.
That still blows my mind how he would have that mindset towards another vet. And he lacked so much self-awareness to even think he stood a chance against Rambo.
I'm 58 and still have my survival knife. It's hanging on the shelves in my shop/ garage. Just in case. And I still tear up at the monolog. He should have gotten an Academy Award. It was perfect.

Mystery Actress Fact: The actress who played Delmar Barry's widow/mother (it is not made clear which she is) was surprisingly never credited for her small but vital speaking role, nor has ever been identified to date. First date I ever had. Her name was Laura. I was 16 years old and had just got my driver license. We went to the theater and watched this one. After the movie we went to McDonald's and had cheese burgers, fries and a shake.
What a badass film to have watched on your first ever date! I bet you ate multiple cheeseburgers and didn't gain an ounce of weight lol! Wish I could eat like that again and not have a care in the world. I remember my first date. My mom dropped me off at the theater and my date and I were way overdressed haha! Good times man. Thanks for sharing! You just brought back a lot of memories for me :)
First saw this when I was around 9 when the Rambo rage was happening in the mid 1980's. I saw it as a action movie, but as I re watched it as an adult, I see it as a drama with a veteran surviving in a world against him.
Bro, Sly ALWAYS did his own stunts!! He never had a stunt double, just so you know. 😮. This guy was the real deal back in the day man, total action hero with a shit load of heart ❤️
@@jessebatres6895Yup, it's a different geneation of action heroes. He got his finger nearly blown off when escaping into the mine, got bitten by those rats, burned when igniting powder towards the end...Unimaginable in this day and age.
I have no idea what it takes to win an academy award (when it meant something), but at the end of First Blood Stallone was gold, priceless in that performance. I'd say his best acting. Probably the same people that didn't give Val Kilmer an award for Tombstone, I'm sure. Ass Clowns.
I was 8 when this came out. First Sly film for me, watched every one multiple times ever since. I’ve seen just about everyone’s reaction to this movie and enjoyed yours greatly. I can see your appreciation to what went into making this and the meaning behind it. First time seeing any of your reactions to be honest. I’ll check out your other posts. Rambo 3 is not my fav but you’ll like the rest of them I think.
Nice man! I'm really glad you enjoyed the reaction. I'm pumped to watch the rest of the franchise! I'm sure the Rocky films were big for you as well. Love that franchise! I think you'll enjoy "The Terminator" reaction. I've got some other Stallone and Arnold reactions, with plenty more on the way. Appreciate the support brother!
Yeah, they were jabbing back and forth. You will see this in their respective movies. Eventually, they mellowed and the jabs became more playful. Stuff like Stallone on Arnold in Demolition Man, Jamie Lee's comment in True Lies. Arnold posturing at a Rambo poster in Twins. Probably others. Sheriffs are elected. It wasn't an exaggeration. Things were different back then. Some of it really hasn't changed. Stallone saved this movie by suggesting nearly all of Rambo's lines be deleted. That monologue at the end hit hard. Helped wake a lotta people up
Badass! I'll keep an eye out for those moments when I watch those films. As mentioned, it really paid off for the fans because it pushed those guys to put out some great films. That's cool about Stallone suggesting to have almost all of Rambo's lines deleted. I think it fits his character, and it even adds more power to that Monologue since we see him let so much out, like he just had it bottled up. I'm going to come back to this monologue quite a bit, it's just SO GOOD!! And delivered beautifully
Thanks so much brother! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I can picture you swinging punches and shadow boxing whenever Stallone was kicking ass lol! I'm pumped for Part 2!
I really looked the setting for this film. It added to how adaptable Rambo really is and how he can handle any kind of terrain. Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
I agree. He's the only one that showed compassion towards him and also told them that he must have something wrong with him mentally back in the police station.
Dont forget that this all would never have happened if only that sherriff would had let rambo get a meal in that town and he would had left peacefully.
I know right! Man, imagine if the sheriff would've driven him to a nearby place to eat and shared a meal with him. That would've meant so much to Rambo, especially during this dark period in his life.
I don't know if this was mentioned in any of the other comments, but that monologue at the end was nearly incomprehensible in the original. Stallone mumbled and the manner in which he speaks made it extremely difficult to understand what he was saying. I'm not sure when they cleaned it up, but it's a very powerful bit of emotional acting. It's nice to be able to understand finally.
Actually you're the first to mention it. I'd love to see if I can find an original version of that monologue. Man, I can't get over how amazing it was. Hell I might go watch it right now, and shut off the volume and I bet the body language alone will be captivating. It's just so damn good! Thanks for sharing!
Ah that makes sense that Rambo would've picked that up during his service in Vietnam. I wonder if part 2 will show us more flashbacks of what he went through.
As a kid in the 80s I saw Rambo 2 and 3 more than this one. It wasn't until I got older that I watched the first film in the series and gained a lot of appreciation for the story.
I'm pumped for the sequels, and it always fascinates how perceptions of films can completely change when we watch them as adults. I'll be checking out Terminator 2 later this month, and I haven't seen that since I was a kid.
Agreed! The dude even threatened his own, and the sheriff was an idiot for keeping someone like that around. He did mention that he knew him for a long time so I guess he was willing to look passed all the clear red flags. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@jessebatres6895 I also agree, and he’s like the only fatality in the whole movie. The helicopter pilot will testify that Galt was trying to murder Rambo, that what happened to him was an accident. When the Sheriff asks “Are you telling me that 200 men against your boy is a no win situation?” I’m like ‘Yeah that’s exactly what he’s telling you!’
Yeah it took me some time after watching the film to think about how there really only was one casualty. The guy was just such a psycho and would've at some point later down the road gotten himself or others killed. And yeah dude, I love that moment with they're talking about the 200 men! "A good supply of body bags". 😂 The colonel knew that Stallone would just mow them down like grass
The ending of the novel this came from is different. The official ending of the movie is an alternate. The ginger dude is played by the actor from CSI: Miami in an early role. For such a violent movie, Rambo doesn't actually kill anyone. The sequels are a whole other ball of wax, but I enjoyed them, nonetheless. My favorite of the sequels is actually a workprint version of Rambo 4, with alternate scenes and footage from the finished movie being edited in a totally different way, with some scenes far later or earlier than the finished product.
I believe it! Any time he was doing something crazy I was trying to look at the person's face, and to me it pretty much looked like Stallone nearly the entire time during the stunt sequences. Love how dedicated he is!
Not sure if this was mentioned but Hope, British Columbia, Canada is now known for beingthe filming location of this movie & a tourist attraction filled with Rambo memorabillia. You can go & check out all the locations where Sylvestor Stallone was back in the early 80s & there is wven a statue of Rambo & Teasle in town
I've googled the town and it is BEAUTIFUL! Would love to check it out someday and enjoy the scenery and charm. That's badass that they have a status of Rambo & Teasle. Thanks for watching and commenting!
When he found out his friend had died, he threw his address book away signaling he had no one else. What's overlooked is how offish his friend's wife was to John, until she realized he was a friend. The way they trested John, imagine how they treated his friend who lived there. Justifies why she was so angry.
Great point! I was curious why she was so cold to Rambo, but it makes sense that she had grown colder over time due to how her husband passed and how others may have treated him.
Back in those days, the leftists had influence over our young that pushed a lot of political hate onto our military. When I got out of the Navy in 1970, I made sure to wear civies going home. When this movie came out 12 years later, it brought it all back to me. I think back on it with anger mainly toward the universities and media. I don't remember law enforcement being on the side of the left. What got the sheriff going against Rambo is that he most likely thought of him as being a left-wing hippy. They were known as being physically unkempt (needing haircuts and showers) as well as disrespecting the flag by wearing it on their clothing; many times on the seat of their pants.
I have watched several reactions on UA-cam of this movie. At first, I thought you were going to realize, that Rambo, through his rebellion of refusing to be fingerprinted, was escalating an already bad situation, and you would not justify his criminal behavior throughout the rest of the movie. But like all the other reactors, you stuck to the narrative of justifying his crimes. As a person who was incarcerated for over 34 years for gun violence, I had to learn that the Rambo doctrine of vengeance through violence (which is still alive today), is not justifiable behavior. Crime is never above the law of the land. You said, Rambo tried to turn himself in. I turned myself in, facing a First Degree Murder charge. When I did, I didn’t make any claims about being innocent of the crime, like Rambo did, “I didn’t do anything,” as he tried to back away. No, that is not how you surrender to law enforcement. I was born in 1962, and was well aware of the Green Berets, and the struggles they went through in their minds. Thus, in reality , the worst thing that a trained killing machine who has PTSD can do is put himself in a situation where he is at odds with law enforcement. Especially bad law enforcement. For he knows what he’s capable of doing. Serious crimes. So, I am sorry, I can’t raise my arms with you and cheer on criminal behavior. If you are interested, I would be glad to send you my short autobiography that was recently published after my release this year, entitled, Victory over Anger. Just let me know and I will email the draft to you. Take care. Jim
I like when Rambo brings the war to the town by first cutting off there fuel supply, then taking the electricity out, and then blowing up there ammo dump. 3 things you do first before taking out the headquarters ( The police station).
Hey Jesse I recently discovered your channel I love how passionate you are for every character I would absolutely love it if you start the Harry Potter series I would love to see your reaction to them I’m sure everyone else would as well it will really grow your fan base!
Thank you so much! Sometimes when I'm editing, it's kind of surprising even for me how much I get into it lol! I like putting myself into the film and it feels like I'm kind of really in it, if that makes sense. I'm definitely going to do the Harry Potter series. I'm thinking about starting it right after October. Looking forward to them! :)
This was based on a best-selling novel that ends quite differently. You can find an alternate ending for this film on UA-cam but it didnt test well so they changed it. The movie is also quite different from the sequels where Rambo became more of a cartoon action character. This movie never got the credit it deserved when it came out. Liberal critics didn't like it but like some other movies (Dirty Harry), it's gotten more credit as the years go by.
I was surprised how much this film included some really great dramatic elements. I know I was in for some awesome action, but the character side of it along with them putting a focus on trauma/ptsd truly elevated it for me. This is truly just a great film, not just an action film. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You should really watch the whole series. First Blood II and Last Blood are pretty good. Rambo (2008) is probably the best of the series. First Blood III is Ok, but it continues the story.
I'm definitely watching the entire series :) I saw an image of him from part 2 when I was looking up pictures for the thumbnail and thought "Oh hell yeah!!" lol!
It's First Blood but they changed it to Rambo: First Blood for the DVD boxed set. They did the same thing with Raiders of the Lost Ark. Hate that. Don't change it!
It far exceeded my expectations! I didn't expect such an amazing and tragic story. The ending is so sad, because even though he lives, you just know he'll carry that trauma forever.
Dude, thanks for sharing this man's name. I read up on him just now, and so glad to see how his Distinguished Service Cross was upgraded to the Medal of Honor. Appreciate you sharing! :)
The, Sheriff is a war veteran himself he fought in the Korean war it is out of jealousy, he hates the fact that the Vietnam war is reciving more coverage than the Korean war did, the book talks about the Sheriff being a Korean war veteran..
Oh man that makes me dislike his character even more. I figured he'd have been friendly to Rambo and even gone to lunch with him and chat for a bit. I hope going forward, the Sheriff would approach other vets very differently.
Well at first he didn't, but any judge would sentence him for at least a few crimes after he started fighting the cops and escaped. Thanks for watching and commenting!
"Agent Orange" "Agent Orange" was used as a defoliant. The US dropped it to kill vegetation to try to deny "The Enemy" a place to hide in. And yes...He got it in 'Nam and it ate him to the bone.
Yep, I was born in 71 so I don't know about the hated for the Vietnam vets, but I've read and heard about it. It was so disgusting, me as being a Vet makes me puke. Ask a Vietnam vet about Jane Fonda,......that would be a hostile conversation.
Hello, if you don’t mind, can you do a movie reaction on a movie called, 1492: Conquest of Paradise. Adventure/Drama (1992). It stars Gérard Depardieu, Siqourney Weaver, Armand Assante. It portrays a version of the travels to the New World by the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus and the effect this had on indigenous peoples. Directed by Ridley Scott. Thank you, Chris.
Haha. And you thought this was an action/ adventure movie. When the movie was announced, vets were 💯 against this. After the release, not one serious voice of opposition.
Exactly bro! I knew I was going to get some awesome action! But damn was I blown away by the dramatic elements and how the story focused on trauma/ptsd. Such an incredible film!
I have to cut into them for copyright purposes. I looked up other "Rambo first time reactions" and I just might have the longest one available on UA-cam. Hell, I think I saw quite a few that are under 40 minutes long. I love to include as much as possible.
First blood (masterpiece), Pt II (really good), Pt III average, but fun, Rambo (blood fest, but good), Last Blood - Average at best, too much like Taken (the movie) not like a true Rambo film.
Great! It is very interesting to see your detailed reaction to the film Robocop 1987. This is an awesome classic movie 🦾🤖🔥 Do you have any plans to do it?

Awe those weekend warriors, people know what I'm talking about.
This is one of the purest portrayal of ptsd
I couldn't help but be in awe of Stallone's performance. It's tragic and sad to think about how vets would really go through this.
Great reaction. You sounded exactly like 8 year old me watching this in the 80's. 😄 Still one of my favorite movies.
Thanks so much brother! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I can picture you swinging punches and shadow boxing whenever Stallone was kicking ass lol! I'm pumped for Part 2!
Powerful
It indeed was. And it's more than just an action film, which I love!
Great reaction.
Thank you so much! :)
It was supposed to be the US in the movie but it was filmed in Canada.
Beautiful scenery.
I really looked the setting for this film. It added to how adaptable Rambo really is and how he can handle any kind of terrain. Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
'Get up carrot top'? He was the one and only single guy who treated Rambo as a human being. He showed concern and compassion.
I know you're a great guy cuz you're a dog dad!! I really enjoyed your video reaction! 👍
Thank you Jason! Yeah these big babies make my day every day. I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction!
Good old school ❤❤❤
Hell yeah! The action, stunts, and brutality had another level of realism. Such a great movie!
The trap that Rambo set up in the forest used sharpened, pointed branches called "punji" sticks. They were often used by the Viet Cong in their traps.
Great movie
Badass movie! 💪
If Galt wasn't such a sociopath, Rambo probably would've just calmly sat in jail for a couple of days.
My favorite of the sequels is actually a workprint version of Rambo 4, with alternate scenes and footage from the finished movie being edited in a totally different way, with some scenes far later or earlier than the finished product.
great reaction
Thank you so much! This movie was amazing and I'm excited to see the sequels! :)
Fun fact Stallone did most of his stunts including the cliff jump from what I read and broke his rib during the production
Very calculated and it further cements to the audience how organized and dangerous he is, especially when he's pushed. Loved the film!
@@jessebatres6895 When you watch the series, your only disappointment will be that there are more movies in the series.
The douche bag cop (Brian Dennehy) lived 20 minutes up the road from me for years. Passed his house a bunch going to play golf in Woodstock Ct.
It's First Blood but they changed it to Rambo: First Blood for the DVD boxed set. They did the same thing with Raiders of the Lost Ark. Hate that. Don't change it!
Ah that makes sense. I guess executives did it for marketing purposes.
Please do all 5 of these
Definitely! I'll be watching part 2 soon :)
Another pretty good Stallone movie is Lock -up.
Oh nice! That's one I haven't even heard of. Putting it on my list! Thanks brother!
Oh man, what a story right, cooL reaction?
It far exceeded my expectations! I didn't expect such an amazing and tragic story. The ending is so sad, because even though he lives, you just know he'll carry that trauma forever.
Keep watching them. You should read the book. Very different from the movie.
Will definitely watch the rest of the series. I like to listen to audio books so this may be one I check out. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Stallone himself did the cliff scene when you see him hit the ground screaming that was real cuz he broke his ribs doing the stunt
Stallone is such a badass! He probably said, "I'll just rub some dirt on it and let's continue shooting." lol!
Rambo is based on an actual person his name is Roy Benavidez.
Dude, thanks for sharing this man's name. I read up on him just now, and so glad to see how his Distinguished Service Cross was upgraded to the Medal of Honor. Appreciate you sharing! :)
If you liked the monologue at he end of this one, just wait for the one at the end of Rambo II.
NICE! I'm looking forward to it! Stallone kicking ass and giving us great acting moments is like Christmas Day!
The Pacific Northwest is just so damn creepy to me. This movie started it, and then Twin Peaks finished the job.
I agree! Something about those large forest trees and how some parts can be so gray and gloomy is unsettling.
No kills in this movie but in the next ones to come.A total 489 watch out When he turns seventy six on home turf
No stunt double in this one. Stallone did it himself.
My respect for him was already high and it's gone up even more. Such a boss!
First 3 movies all classics 4 good 5 ok
I'm looking forward to Stallone kicking some more ass! lol! 💪
Sheriffs are elected. Police chiefs are appointed
Got it. That makes sense after seeing his demeanor whenever citizens were around.
HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHIN'!
Well at first he didn't, but any judge would sentence him for at least a few crimes after he started fighting the cops and escaped. Thanks for watching and commenting!
In the book, his CO shoots him after his break down.
Sly wanted a more hopeful ending.
Damn! Selfishly, I'm glad they didn't go that route since it lead to more chapters in his journey.
Asian Orange ate him to the bone. He got it from nam.
So awful man! And Stallone mentioning that he was a huge guy, which is then followed by the lady saying she could lift him up at the end.
@@jessebatres6895 agreed. Thanks for the interaction. You just got a new sub.
Thanks Ronnie! Always feel free to share feedback and insight. 👍
"Agent Orange"
"Agent Orange" was used as a defoliant.
Stallone always copies the plots of the late great Charles Bronson's movies
Chatos Land 1972
Death Hunt 1981 with Lee Marvin and Carl Weathers
Hope BC Canada
I googled it and man that place is beautiful!!
Okay I can't watch the tunnel scene, why? rodents scare the crap out of me.
SA-PB
Dude! You cut in to the movie scenes way too much!
Parli troppo amico
mia moglie dice lo stesso
13:13 Sly really broke his nose on accident. That's why later on in the film he has a band aid on it.
Damn! I wonder what Sly said to the guy after the camera cut lol! Thanks for sharing!
Great! It is very interesting to see your detailed reaction to the film Robocop 1987. This is an awesome classic movie 🦾🤖🔥
Do you have any plans to do it?
