Alice talked about advent calendars of the past when you just opened the door and saw a Father Christmas. Alison jumped in and said “Oh yes, and you got a chocolate”. No, back in the day, you just opened the door. You didn’t need to be tempted by a chocolate. It was all about the excitement of opening the door and knowing you were a day closer to Christmas.
I still love these traditional calendars. ❤ Two years ago I found a company who does reprints of some paper calendars from as early as the 50s with nice winter scenes for example which just cost a few Euros and you can reuse them every year to decorate your shelves. In addition, I really enjoy advent calender books where you follow a story and have to solve a riddle each day to know which page to continue. They also are usually only 10-20 Euros. Then an additional tea advent calendar for 5 Euros and I can enjoy a few minutes with my book and a tea every day. For me that's just perfect 😂
They still do traditional calendars in lots of shops, just the picture. My daughter was incredulous that you don't get a chocolate in some of them 😂. When I was a child I did have a chocolate one but the picture was my favourite part x
@ I’m really pleased to hear that😊. I was born a long time ago, but I do remember the thrill of just opening the door and knowing we were a day closer to Christmas. The excitement of knowing that we would get one main present and then a few little things from family. We would then spend Christmas Day playing with that present. I know times change, but not always for the better.
I bought a jigsaw advent calendar from Sainsbury’s last year. You get a 30 piece jigsaw to do every day. It will come out again this year, next year and every following year until I get fed up with it.
Pay no attention to the adverts on UA-cam, go directly to the official shop website or the influencers who unbox them usually provide the legit official link to get the calendar
I've bought an Advent from Cinereplicas both as a Harry Potter fan and one of Sranger things. As I'm also a crafter I treated myself to a Spellbinders Advent with Dies, Rubber Stamps and Embossing Folders.
Thank you for showing this video. Last year i brought a Sephora calendar which i thought was cheap from a different company. I had to wait for days but somehow they delivered at the wrong address. I have emailed the company many times they have failed to answer my messages regarding about the advent calendar. I couldnt get my refund back 😔😒. Some companies do scam people wheather is beauty related or any household.
I'm honestly surprised that the scammer recreated (in some fashion) the stationery box. It's terrible, but it's surprising that they even bothered to produce anything rather than running off with people's money.
I watch unboxing of advent calendars on UA-cam and the person who bought and opened it is often excited because the calendar states the total worth of actual products in the calendar are worth two or three times what she paid for the calendar. Does that person ever wonder if she would use any of those items? How many are just samples that you get when you buy a different product? Last year, Chanel insulted their buyers by filling their calendar with stickers, samples, and other junk for an egregiously overpriced calendar.
Completely agree. A couple of people I subscribe to buy beauty boxes. They marvel that they'll see a product is "worth £90". A box of face cream isn't worth £90...unless there's £85 in the box too!
To be fair, those two paper clips still come from the original Martha Brooks calendar. They weren't in door #24 and there were 4 of them, but they are real. You do get 4 paper clips on one of the advent calendar days 🤷♀️
Oh that’s good to know. Sadly, I fell for the scammed product. I had no idea. I pd $45 CAD and now it’s stuck in the mail because Canada Post is on strike. 😢 but I hope that I will get some decent products when it finally arrives.
Uh oh, I think I fell for the scam!! I ordered that stationary calendar for $45 CAD and it shipped from China. I had no idea!! Now it’s stuck in the mail because Canada Post is on strike!! So I have a scam product that I won’t even get in time!!! Sad😢
The PLouise one is amazing again this year, not that I could afford it at £240.00. ALL full size products and the best packaging that lights up (if you can stomach all the pink 😂).
When you think about it, you could say that all advent calendars are scams because you pay more for the products (most of the time) then you would if you got them all individually. Expensive calendars have had their day, in my opinion…..who can afford them anymore anyway 🤷♀️
I bought a Sephora mystery beauty box which turned out to be a subscription to a website called evening book readers which was going to charge £42 every 14 days had I not realised and cancelled.
Watching this and there's a banner across the bottom of the screen. Could official sellers not have a bar stating "only available from..." and the official site? 🤔
They can, but what tends to happen is the scammers crop it out or just put their own brand/black bar over the top of it. It's hard to have watermarking that's visible and scammers won't be able to edit out. Sometimes they're entirely shameless and will repost it with the watermarking/official info intact anyway as they know people will tend to just click on the easy link and not check what site they're on. And if the original creator video isn't suitable, they just steal other people's content....
Alice said the contents of some advent calendars are worth thousands of pounds, I think she meant the contents COST thousands, they’re definitely not WORTH thousands.

Well said. I remember those days well.
I miss those simpler times

The moral of this video...📹 go to a proper SHOP to buy the genuine articles 🛍🛍
I wish I could. I live in a very small town and we depend on online shopping.
Whatever you are buying be careful.
Facebook dont care. Never buy anything from an ad on there….

I'm not buying anything on line for Xmas, not getting anything delivered, so not getting scammed 👌
Thank you for making this. Last week I watched a advent calendar for Vogue it was $500 - and it was full of junk like nail polish, a scarf, and socks.
That's the proper advent calendar 😂
Vogue has one of the best advent calenders
The PLouise one is amazing again this year, not that I could afford it at £240.00. ALL full size products and the best packaging that lights up (if you can stomach all the pink 😂).
You didn't even mention it's in the shape of a train and 2 carriages that actually run on wheels lol
The Martha Brook advent calendar is being sold on Walmarts website by a seller called BOLANQ…obviously not the real deal!
Just go to a shop and buy one
Unfortunately I can’t. I live in a very small town and everyone depends on online shopping.

I can afford them. So I have brought myself and my daughter one each. I work and earn my money, so I will purchase what I like.
@ wasn’t saying you couldn’t. I don’t know who you are. But I just thought I’d add my opinion based on the clip
I'm so glad I don't have tik tok and Instagram etc😮😮
I bought a Sephora mystery beauty box which turned out to be a subscription to a website called evening book readers which was going to charge £42 every 14 days had I not realised and cancelled.
My daughters partner got scammed with the Halloween gnome advent calendar 🤬🤬and that was off Amazon 🤬🤬

Facebook ads should not be trusted as a rule of thumb
Really ? I had a text other day off winter payment for gas and electricity x
I got a letter from DWP and an email from my energy company (it goes straight to them). You don't have to do ANYTHING to receive it.
My daughter bought a book advent calendar and all the envelopes were empty. Never got response from company. At least it wasn't expensive.
National Lampoons Advent. Shocking value for money !
Alice said the contents of some advent calendars are worth thousands of pounds, I think she meant the contents COST thousands, they’re definitely not WORTH thousands.
I got scammed with the Aldi one
Amazon is the daddy of fake goods 😂
What is the point of this program!
🤷♀️🤣
It's this morning. Most of their articles gain this response.
These expensive Advent Calendars take the fun out of Christmas. Probably don’t use most of the stuff. So people will regift the gifts.
