She looked very tense and was certainly off her game. I am glad to see her back. But here's the thing. Maybe she needs to be realistic with herself and is having a great deal of difficulty in doing that.
Life, dearest Susan, is a continuing , if spotty, adventure of becoming more yourself. Gracie's identity is surely one of seeking the rewarding concision and expressionof and through figure skating performance. Her journey, as that of ALL performers, generously includes us. Each individual comes from an unique developmental world, and may have felt more or less isolated or other deprivation. Gracie fought for her skill and her love into adolescence, perhaps absorbing some of the imposed "direness" of competitive success that is so damaging to the full development of a human, profoundly affiliati e beings that we are. Sure, we can ALL identify technical and physical lacks and assets we ourselvez deal with, able to offer salient methods and methodologies. I'd hesitate to grant credence to pursuit of cold criticism, as we humans can too easily be swept up in brutish cold ingrouping effort, so damaging as it is not only to our targets, but, perhaps worse, because of the cold brutality it can induce, up to lifelong, in ourselves, when we do so. Gracie appears to be pursuing connection, among other things. Did you know that some of the world's greatest teachers of ballet, for example, were incomplete performers - in technique, OR in expression, or physical and physiological limitations? Gracie has been at it long enough to recognize some of her own lacunae. Our limitations sometimes, when met with some determination, along with compassion, can become openings into a far deeper sharing and development than by those not having the limitation.
Why does it always seem that I'm sitting in on practicing skate when I watch her. More so, waiting for her to mess up than watching a performance. She has zero passion.
Wow - what a shame. Thanks again "CB" - your videos give us great insight. Whoever knows Gracie, please tell her to watch YOUR videos. Because I'm going to say something rather controversial - Gracie was the only one who actually looked like a world champion competitor out there (WHEN she was on). She does something that others failed to do (except for Amber), she LOOKED UP INTO the audience. Sure, she could've skated faster, but Gracie actually fills an arena (she's not just skating for the first 3 rows). Her jumps are also finessed (at times they have a strange tilt), but the good ones she hits, man, there's nothing I can take away from them. I suspect she ran out of steam going into the second triple Lutz. But for all the talk about Isabeau being the artist (and in all fairness, Isabeau is a beautiful skater), but she is not giving world champion vibes out there just yet. And it comes down to a classic rookie mistake. Which is why anyone with half of Gracie's experience, should have been able to win this competition. Nobody's jumps in the competition were better than Gracie's. Bradie comes close. But Bradie falls short when it comes to the height at times. Amber’s jumps could be higher too; they tend to skim the ice too much for me. Isabeau is not even in the equation because she virtually comes to a stand still to take off for a triple Lutz. Her loop, I'm sorry, looks like she's scared to attempt it. And at this level, if you have to slow down to do a double axel mandatory points should be taken off. What is this, first group of the novice ladies regional competition? So, if Gracie can build up her stamina, she still has it to become National Champion again - and it should be an easy win if she can pull off a clean skate with a triple-triple combination. The difference is, Isabeau is an extremally gifted and beautiful skater (I would argue her crossovers are a bit exaggerated and she should use that energy to pull off more dynamic jumps.) Gracie, when she does a jump, you're like - oh, the big-guns have arrived. So, a) Gracie HAS the jumps; and b) Gracie can give you PRESENCE. She just has to take it. Now, on to the dress. Not sure what's going on with these dressmakers lately, but where is Lauren Sheehan when you need her? The beading was great on Gracie's dress, but I'm not having the waistlines. And it's not just Gracie, it's a lot of the girls. The fit of these dresses is not flattering, and it's making them look entirely too square in the hips. People seriously need to have a talk with their seamstresses. If they have a problem tell them to call me, and I'll straight their asses out. And I'm serious! Step ONE - PICK ANY Nicole Bobek dress made AFTER 1995 Nationals please, take it to the seamstress and tell them to make the waist look like THAT. If they can't, thank them for their noble service and get a new seamstress. End of story. Enough is enough. (I mean even Nicole's PRACTICE dresses would put some of these competition dresses today to shame. Get into the tailoring, dahling. Child, I am still floored over that Dr. Zhivago dress! Timeless! World Championship-level skaters should be skating in those types of dresses! Period!) Kerrigan's dresses made by Vega Wang, again, get into the waist line. Take ANY Debi Thomas dress - get into the waistline and the skirt. Look at Jill Trenery's dresses STARTING with the 1988 Olympics - get into the cut. Tara's dresses (once she started working with Lauren Sheehan were also gorgeous) - get into it! Half the time, these skirts are entirely too long because the seamstress must be trying to compensate for something else. So, we can do better ya'll. Let's step it up. What female figure skater doesn't want to showoff her sinched waist. These dresses are not giving that. I would recommend, contact Lauren Sheehan - I hear she is committed to retirement. But she might at least be able to hold a master class to help the younger designers, or at the very least share some notes, get you a PDF, or something. FaceTime, work, too. Hell, there are options. Because something needs to be done.
Yeah idk what's going on with the costumes. Her team needs to get better options for her. I'm not a huge follower when it comes to her skating but she's one of the biggest names in current U.S. skaters, her costumes should reflect that.

Gracie has yet to fulfill her potential and grab that Gold medal 🥇!!! 😊 Don’t give up yet, Gracie!! 😊
I was laughing all the way through this comment because, my friend, you have passion!!! But you are also right. I think some of the costuming issues are that they are creating dresses that are prettier right up close, but don't film well or look good from the audience.
