We rescued a baby pigeon on Aug. 1st. Actually 2, 1 of them didn't survive. I ground up some dove food in a coffee grinder and added some water. I used a small saline spray bottle, cutting the tip to make it bigger, then dripped the food into their mouths however I could. Wrapping a towel around them to keep them still, it was difficult prying open the mouth with one hand while dripping in the food. I had a better time just dripping it along the edges of the beak where the bottom and top come together. In a day or two, one of them started eating and drinking on it's own. Now, it's been 4 wks. and we're enjoying the bird. I can handle the bird a lot of the time. I suspect the bird is male, because of the sassiness that Tyler talks about. Very territorial of his habitat. Loves to be free in the living area.
Pet pigeon owner here. Great video, and beautiful birds, but some considerations: "They are not very loud...The loudest sound they make is their coo." Not quite. Our male's nesting call is, bar none, the loudest and most annoying sound he makes! It's similar to a rhythmic hooting sound. If his loudest sounds were cooing and flying, we wouldn't have a qualm. But that nesting call, my goodness. Not conducive if you're on the phone or a Zoom meeting. "The pecking is literally a little pinch." True, if they're young and don't have any beak overgrowth. Get your bird a brick or something to use as a grindstone. Otherwise, the pecking is more of a vice grip than a pinch and can even break the skin. "They're not destructive animals." Not quite. Our birdie loves to destroy our plants. He will identify any plant, fly to it, uproot it, make a scene, dance around in victory as he leaves a wake of chaos in his path, leaves & soil all over the place. Otherwise, this is all very accurate. Even with the aforementioned, we love our birb.
I've wanted a bird since I was 18, but I discovered parrots weren't for me because I have a lot sensory issues. Then when I was 20, I found how lovely pigeons are. I hope to get one when I move out :)
Tyler, I had a young bird show up at my door after a wind storm, peeping and flapping. I got her dry, and fed her baby bird food from a silicone boba straw. Seven days later she can fly quite well and can eat and drink on her own. She LOVES her cuddles. She is quiet, cooperative, affectionate....I'm making a pidgeon home at the treeline behind my house. Not that she isn't sweet, but the landlord......so she isn't a PET, she is a bird that happens to live in my back yard. That I feed. And let sit on my bed and laptop. That likes to ride on my shoulder to go for away and SEE things. I am totally AMAZED that she has learned so very much so quickly!!! She apparently wants to drop her poops in a relatively specific place, which is appreciated. How LONG does it take for a pidgeon to get their "adult voice?" Once she stopped peeping for food, she seems to use it to mean "pick me up" But no other vocalizations yet.
Yeah, that's one very overlooked aspect of choosing to keep pidgeons as a pet bird; Roosters crow. Crows caw. Parrots and budgies shriek. But pidgeons? My grandma's coffee percolator is probably louder than your average pidgeon.
Oh my gosh, I'm so glad I came across this video. I have a pigeon as a pet (found him in the garden, sick with what I believe was PMV) and it's great to see other people who have them as well. My Pigeon is definitely smarter than my hand fed Cockatiel. She recognizes human faces, understood the layout of the house before visiting all rooms, and is incredibly easy to communicate with relative to the Cockatiel
Pigeons are the BEST pets. Theyre SWEET, they nest and its very cute. Theyre curious and protective. They fly onto your bed to nap next to you. Theyre also VERY easy and cheap to take care of and are overall amazing company
My family and I raised pigeons, we race them, eat them, sell them, we have all sorts of breeds from show pigeons to bringing back rare colors (my dad is currently working to bring back the almond color of chinese owls, we only have one owl that has that color). Pigeons are super neat and I love them, I always say they have the Benjamin button disease because birds as little chicks are considered "ugly" but to me they look like old people and grow into beautiful birds.
I adopted my pigeon from a bird hospital that rehabs wild birds! As a domesticated breed they couldn’t release him normally, I was lucky enough to be there to scoop him. Love my beby boy ♡ ♡
Theres the Chicago pigeon rescue here in my state, and im excited for getting space soon to rescue a few of them. Im glad to see the tiktok blowing up, bc more people can appreciate these funny lil guys
I don't feel I can have birds with my cats and all but I always wanted a pigeon since rescuing a spent racer years back. I get visited by a family of wild wood-pigeons here though! They are so smart and loving to each other.
I'm never in my life going to own a pigeon but I feel like I've learned valuable information from this video that I can use in the future somehow. And it's nice seeing birds that are usually hanging around the street in the good care of a decent human, lol
15 years ago I used to have a tan colored wild pigeon, my brother brought it in cause the bird was injured, and when the pigeon healed we eventually kept it as a pet, but one day the pigeon flew away...which was for the best tbh considering the bird was born in the wild and now was living in captivity, and I’m sure the pigeon missed the great outdoors, we named her camila (we weren’t sure if it was a boy or girl) and one vivid memory I remember is when she used to fly around the house, without fail, she would always fly to my mom and sit in her head 😂 (my mom has curly poofy nest like hair)
My family and I would race pigeons. When the squab gets old enough, you can slide a band with a number onto their foot, and their birth month, that stays there for life. You'd release them from say, Saskatchewan, and they'd fly back to BC in a day. You'd wait outside with your timer and then input their number when you see them land. I'm happy to see this video since pigeons have so much going for them that people don't know about. I would say that they're a little dusty but with proper ventilation it's not a problem. They mate for life and will love you like you're their mate. They'll coo to you at night when it's about to sleep. Pigeons really are fantastic
This makes me miss the pair of mourning doves that nested on my balcony last year. Such a wonderful quarantine watching this couple raise 3 sets of babies.
Thank you very much for the pigeon pants! I'll give them a try... From my experience they can be aggressive; bite you very hard, like scissors, and the wing slap is meant to scare you, that which is very effective since it's very fast! This only happened to me at first, or defending their loved ones... once they know you, they change their body language and it's ok. If you can hold your pigeon Cooper, like a potato (lol), that means it's a female; this is the way you can discern their genre... hold them in your hands, and try and make their belly stand upwards; if they don't fight it, they're female...
Owls aren't good pets, but they can make excellent partners for an experienced falconer! Have you ever considered Falconry? Working alongside birds of prey is so fascinating.
i love pigeons .....they seem to not fear me or my huge Labrador...They just seem to know hes v gentle....when i talk to them, they put their little heads on one side, like dogs do...too cute
Great video! Million dollar questions for parrot owners, do you ever have your parrots out with your pigeons? My parrots are out all day long, as long as I am home, they are out of their cages. Guessing pigeons & parrots wouldn't do very well together...
Totally gorgeous birds! Pigeons are my favorite creature on Earth. I did pigeon rescue for a while. Thank you so very much for exposing the ignorance about these brilliant, clean birds!! NO animal is "filthy". THey are all divine creations. If any creature is filthy it would be humans who get very far out of alignment from their Source connection . And it is we who make the filth in cities from our industry and apathy. The birds then have to try to live in that mess as well as they can. Everyone who investigates or researches pigeons falls in love with them. My wish is that all humans come to see pigeons as they truly are. THank you!!

She apparently wants to drop her poops in a relatively specific place, which is appreciated. How LONG does it take for a pidgeon to get their "adult voice?" Once she stopped peeping for food, she seems to use it to mean "pick me up" But no other vocalizations yet.
Hey this is something I overlooked as well. For one, and I believe this is a big one for apartments, is that they're much quieter than a parrot.
Yeah, that's one very overlooked aspect of choosing to keep pidgeons as a pet bird;
Roosters crow.
I feel like not enough is being said about how great they are. I share my home with parrots too but my pigeon Bubbles is the most loving out of all my birds
My girlfriend always talks about how much she likes pigeon and how she wants to keep one. Guess it would be a great choice, thanks to this video ^^
i remember when i had a parrot and i would hear in the middle of the night
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA *attempt of singing*AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Many people don't realize how wonderful pigeons are. They make the best pets.
Awesome animals I’ve raised a lot of them!!!!!! You’ve been a very inspirational person in our animal journey. We currently have a harlequin mccaw. Reticulated python. Ball python. 2 rats. A raccoon. A hermit crab. 2 cats. 3 dogs and a leopard gecko!!!!!!! Would love to see you make a video on raccoon care !!!!!!!
I have fell on love with pigeons from a youtuber who rescues pigeons and has an outdoor pigeon house! Holly Conrad is the reason why i fell in love with pigeons
100%aggreed ! Pigeons are very very underrated!
I wish more people loved them 🥲
@@tylerrugge true. My mom doesn’t hate them but has this super weird “superstition” that they “curse” gods with their grunts or something? Idk. This prevented me from getting my pidgey at the last moment because someone told her! How?! She even likes pigeons and feeds them. ;-;
It's not underrated in our country though
@@tylerrugge agree.
Honestly the cooing is kinda soothing In a way
the fact that there's already a dislike im-
Pigeon haters 😡
@@tylerrugge flying rats
Rats are super great pets so the fact pigeons are flying rats makes them even better.
Let’s be honest it was probably Maddie...
@@R-Mean1000 you anger me
I’ve never thought about how calming the sound of pigeons cooing is.
My Pigeon is definitely smarter than my hand fed Cockatiel. She recognizes human faces, understood the layout of the house before visiting all rooms, and is incredibly easy to communicate with relative to the Cockatiel
My pigeon is turning 15 years old in a few days!
Pigeons are the BEST pets. Theyre SWEET, they nest and its very cute. Theyre curious and protective. They fly onto your bed to nap next to you. Theyre also VERY easy and cheap to take care of and are overall amazing company
Please show more of Cooper and him flying or doing things.
Their cooing is so calming
I love how quiet they are! Other birds just drive me crazy with how much they scream like toddlers lmao
Cute ❤️❤️❤️
I adopted my pigeon from a bird hospital that rehabs wild birds! As a domesticated breed they couldn’t release him normally, I was lucky enough to be there to scoop him. Love my beby boy ♡ ♡
"Wow That's the stupidest animal I've ever seen in my entire life"
You quoted it perfectly and pulled me out of it😂
I already have a lovebird which is partly because of Tyler's mango videos back in the day and now he's got me thinking about pigeons XD
I had a bird named Bird, Bird was an unusually intelligent pigeon, and Bird was a great pet.🕊
Your pigeons are so gorgeous 🥺
Do you have a care guide on pigeons? If not, we'd love to see one!
I have a care guide I typed out on Coo-pers IG account in his bio; Cooperthepigeon
I have two rescued pigeons and they are amazing.
Aww mb one day I'll get a pigeon ❤ I've only ever seen non-city pigeons at the county fair. I had no idea they could be regular pets.
I’ve had pigeons and parrots and they both are tamed but pigeons are just so much more chill there awesome animals
I'm never in my life going to own a pigeon but I feel like I've learned valuable information from this video that I can use in the future somehow. And it's nice seeing birds that are usually hanging around the street in the good care of a decent human, lol
They are the sweetest most adorable cuties 🥹💘 they are so amazing. I took care of one and that completely changed my life 😭💘
15 years ago I used to have a tan colored wild pigeon, my brother brought it in cause the bird was injured, and when the pigeon healed we eventually kept it as a pet, but one day the pigeon flew away...which was for the best tbh considering the bird was born in the wild and now was living in captivity, and I’m sure the pigeon missed the great outdoors, we named her camila (we weren’t sure if it was a boy or girl) and one vivid memory I remember is when she used to fly around the house, without fail, she would always fly to my mom and sit in her head 😂 (my mom has curly poofy nest like hair)
I have a lovebird but want a pigeon. But can't imagine they will get on lol pigeons are gently timid but my lovebird is a bit of an aggressive b**ch
Lovebirds don’t even get along with lovebirds half the time, probably will need separate playtimes with you
My grandparents had pigeons as pets, they would always make this funny laughing noise along with their cooing
Thanks for making this video! I also have a pet pigeon and it’s sad that they aren’t better known as the fantastic companions that they are
This makes me miss the pair of mourning doves that nested on my balcony last year. Such a wonderful quarantine watching this couple raise 3 sets of babies.
I immediately looked at the thumbnail and thought "magician"
Thank you very much for the pigeon pants! I'll give them a try...
From my experience they can be aggressive; bite you very hard, like scissors, and the wing slap is meant to scare you, that which is very effective since it's very fast! This only happened to me at first, or defending their loved ones... once they know you, they change their body language and it's ok.
If you can hold your pigeon Cooper, like a potato (lol), that means it's a female; this is the way you can discern their genre... hold them in your hands, and try and make their belly stand upwards; if they don't fight it, they're female...
I've always wanted an owl tho
If only owls made good pets
Only owl pet I have seen was really aggressive
Owls aren't good pets, but they can make excellent partners for an experienced falconer!
Have you ever considered Falconry? Working alongside birds of prey is so fascinating.
you can get an owl pigeon
@@shepherdbrooks7609 it must be amazing
Watching this I'm laying in m bed with my 2 pigeons and my dog. ;) I have 17 pigeons in total and I just love them!
Me who just made pigeons using their DNA in biology:😳
It was a simulator pretty cool
i love pigeons .....they seem to not fear me or my huge Labrador...They just seem to know hes v gentle....when i talk to them, they put their little heads on one side, like dogs do...too cute
Great video! Million dollar questions for parrot owners, do you ever have your parrots out with your pigeons? My parrots are out all day long, as long as I am home, they are out of their cages. Guessing pigeons & parrots wouldn't do very well together...
Parrots are notorious for snapping pigeon’s beaks off so it’s not safe to have them out together.
@@MaddieSmith That's enough for me to say no pigeons for me. 👍
THank you!!
We've had parrots in my family for 18 years. They are very loud! "AH AH AH", so loud you can hear them from outside our home!
Appreciative companion breeder here, thanks for spreading the good coo!
Where was this when I was thinking of getting a pidgeon instead of a cockatiel...
They really are a cool pet. There are so many different varieties, shapes and sizes.
Dang, now I want a pigeon. 😂
Been watching pigeon related videos.
I saw a pigeon in this video.
I clicked.
Ah another stop in my never ending research before getting a dove myself
I've always found pigeons adorable and now I ike them even more🥺
