- Every second, another ten tons of plastic is produced. 10% of all plastic produced ends up in the oceans, leading to predictions that, by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the sea.
Faced with this global scourge, more and more businesses are promising to recycle, including the Coca-Cola Company, a group that sells 4000 plastic bottles around the world every second.
Can we depend on the promises made by these multinationals? And is recycling the solution? We investigated the company’s pledges and discovered that their promises are as sugar-filled as their products.

I haven’t purchased this company’s products for over 30 years.
Are you into other soft drinks or are you just a sociopath
@@kyleeats5331 I drink water, tea, coffee, beer.
That’s freaking impressive. I feel like it’s more difficult to not consume than to consume, even accidentally. They own so much.
@@papastummyfuzz9281 - I haven’t consumed it since 42 years ago. And will never do it.
Whao
Will try and inculcate this in my life style.
Though tried it for 2years, do take it randomly.
When I go out to a place ,where not too sure of the water on sale.
Will rather go for the devil 😈 you know, coke than the angel you're not sure of.
I am sure I saw smoke coming out of Michael Golzmans head during the interview. Great interview !
I remember as a little kid me and my friend going around the neighborhood looking for coke bottles to bring back to the store. We got 2 cents for every bottle. But that's how we got our candy money. It was great. It obviously works better that way to stop pollution than pretending to increase the amount of recycled plastic. I and my friends alone used to clean up our neighborhood everyday. The coca cola company is just run by a bunch of greedy ba------rds. From all the kids on my street, thanks for nothing.
Yes this too was one of my favorite things to do as a child,we collected bottles at the Newlands cricket grounds and made a good sum of money ,oh the good old days.
where did the places get momey for that
they should keep this concept and expand upon it
@@puketinmoarliek994 you paid a small deposit on the bottle when buying the cool drink, that’s the money you would get back when returning the empty bottle.
I agree with you, I too, remember bringing the returnable bottles back to the store. It was great.it was a nickel at one time, then they changed it to a dime per bottle. It made it so the companies can re-use the glass bottles many times. I've seen pop bottles where the lettering was wearing off it had been used so many times. This is,and has been,a "throw away" society for many years now. If the bottlers, wanted to keep the plastic out of the ecosystems, they can Impose a five cents return reward for each bottle, just like they used to. Those glass bottles were great
Pop tasted better out of the glass and it stayed cold longer and everything. But since those bottles were reused, companies didn't have to produce as many. Plastic is cheap and light weight much better alternative to glass, aside from the flavor difference. Heavy glass means heavier trucks cannot load a truck or shipping container with all that extra weight. Heavier trucks means expensive over weight tickets for drivers. Not going to happen.
I worked in a lab and i just find it ironic that more than 60% of lab supplies use plastic as well and there is so much waste. Hopefully science can come up with technology to degrade plastic
They have chemicals that break the cross links in polymers. They use it in oil field fracking.
I really miss the days of glass bottle sodas ...
tastes better too
please read my comment left a few minutes ago. We need to have the many share holders convert back to glass. thank you for your time
They still exist...
The PepsiCo company is just as guilty as anyone, so why just pick on Coca Cola? But I guess we have to start somewhere. I'd like to see one of these videos that are interviewing Pepsi executives, or what ever sacrificial lamb they use for interviews.
@@charlesbosse9669 I had the exact same thought.
In Sweden we have the returnable system. Plastic bottles and aluminium cans. And it's true, you don't want to throw away something you have paid for.
Same here in Finland
Same here in Germany
All these companies should be made to clean up all the crap!
There is no “away” with plastic sadly, we need to reuse it or stop making it 🥺
@@PointlessPlastic Agreed, we need to stop using/making it asap. Additionally, getting them to admit their fault, clean up (whatever form that could be) and pay the price for this mass pollution is imo important.
Plastic is so bad for the environment but what do we do when almost everything is packaged inside it? I know we can Recycle but what else?
We use plastic because its cheap , light and for the most part dont break or crack. Personally id like to see a huge cutback on plastic , we should go back to exclusively to glass bottles for liquids , the downside in today's society , where everyone is in a rush and careless. There would be alot of broken glass ( before it reaches the consumer). The bottom line is how much do we care about the environment really . up until recently i didnt know clothing was made from petroleum products. ( hasan Minaj , patriot act). Being a body who recycles alot in a place where the incentive is low aggravates me to no end.if we are gonna make headway in this saving the earth we are gonna have to get 3rd world countries on board big time. Im doing my part , but 1 country boy aint gonna make a microscopic dent in this problem. Cheers.
Throw it away properly in a trash can, not in the ocean
@@debbieschultz9768 Yes clearly I'm big on not throwing any trash on the ground and I teach my children the same I'm fact I take them out once a week to pick up trash and it's almost all plastic.
@@debbieschultz9768 Dis you know these is a type if plastic that is made out of edible material for sea turtles. But companies don't use it because of the cost.
@@geraldhoskins2021 I know why we use it and you're absolutely right if we went back to glass it'd be everywhere I see broken bottles all the time now so I can only imagine how bad it'd be if we cut out plastic altogether. It's sad. I just wish everyone did their part.
This documentary, although with some minor deficiency, is by far one of the uppermost works of professional non-biased journalism that you can find on this very deceptive website. A true film and a shining example of excellent work!
Thank you.
Everyone is responsible for plastic pollution, everyone
"Hemp grows prolifically, making it an extremely efficient crop for these sustainable plastics known as 'bioplastics'. They are lightweight, biodegradable and can replace many petrochemical plastics (oil-based plastics). Compared to petroleum-based plastics, hemp plastic is 3.5 times stronger and 5 times stiffer. As a result, hemp plastics are more durable and have a lower chance of breaking, which also makes them safer. Hemp plastic is also much lighter than regular types of plastic."
Thats a bi-product of oil refinery. It's either use it, burn it or pour it in the ground
There's nothing we can do to keep these things out of the ecosystems until stupid lazy people stop throwing their garbage on the ground or out of the window of the car, or where ever they throw it. I know the commercial with the Indian there. They played it all the time. I wish that people were more conscious of where they throw garbage of any kind. Until then, it will always be a problem. The plastics industry is absolutely not blameless, but the responsibilty lies in the hands of the ones who are consumers. What I don't understand, is why pick on the Coca- Cola company alone. They are big producers of garbage, but so us Pepsi, and thousands of others too. So why just them?
They ARE putting recycled plastics into your food sources. Coffee filters, tea bags. And in actual edible foods. They just give it a fancy name Or not mention it at all.
The bio plastics probably cost more money to use, so that will never happen.
@@charlesbosse9669 plastic was a Chinese creation. I read a book by Robert ludlam about the rise of the Asian money system. Its HORRIFYING. They gave absolutely No concern for the planet the animals humanity JUST GREED. And their plastics ARE distroy ING the planet. There was a time when plastic DID NOT EXIST. My Grandmother was Violet Mozelle Pemberton (I Miss you Ne Ne), who is the niece of John Pemberton. John Pemberton invented Coca Cola back in the late 1800s & the original inventor of the Coke bottle. We have always been very proud of the Coca Cola name despite the fact that that John Pemberton had to sell bits & pieces of the company to support his opioid habit from a war injury after becoming a pharmacist & a respectable man of the community. I hope & pray that Coca Cola will always keep high standards. Keeping our amazing planet safe is above all on my list. I want my beautiful grand children to not worry about plastic destroying the earth. MR. Warren Buffet...... I make am plea to you as the largest share owner. Take care of our planet!!!!!
I've been drinking Diet Coke for years . . . As a result of watching this film, I am appalled at the verbal runaround that the VP from Coke expressed! And I will no longer be buying Coke & will switch over to drinking ice te made from tea bags. Appalling response, horribly ineffective idea of a "circular economy" . . . HORRIBLE!!!! AND THEY CREATED IT, KNOW IT & go right on DOING IT
Why not make your own soda? Invest in a sodastream. You no longer feed at least some irresponsible company's and you cut down on plastic.
I live on the West Coast of Vancouver Island and see sea life caught up on plastics often. In the winter storm this year we had a cargo dump & plastics, fridges, things you name it from one end to the other of the Island. 😥 We couldn't touch any as insurance, investigation, etc had to be done.
I love how she put her specimens in plastic bags
DON'T DRINK COKE! BANNED IT
Coke in glass bottles IMO was awesome. Tasted so much better, and no plastic leeching into your body.
The Vice President, in charge of environmental sustainability flies from Atlanta to France for an interview. The irony.
He came across as an absolute fool whose BS was beyond obvious.
Only money matters.
Governments need to add a 50c/50p tax for every unrecycled plastic item sold. Money talks.

Amazing video so far . More awareness is what I'd like to see .
Have really been touched by this documentary... The lesson have learnt is that "truth hurts".... Am shocked at the vice president finding himself to accept their thirst for profit without taking into account the negative effects of plastic bottles...
Every large company which uses plastics to their packaging should build their recycling plant in every city where they are selling the product, if they are truly serious with their commitment to the environment.
There not, they have even said they moved to PET bottles to offload there cost of returns onto the municipality’s system, and in many countries that system doesn’t even exist!
Back when coke was real coke lol
Great Work
Investigation should be done on How much Coca-cola has effected health of human beings??
One of the main factor of Diabetes is Coca-cola consumption.
Start filling them bottles with dirt/sand and make a house for the poor people
She is an amazing interviewer!
IM NEVER DRINKING COCA COLA FROM THE MOVIE THEATER EVER AGAIN 🥤 🍿
dONT YALL MEAN THE " CRYING ITALIANS FACE" ? considering the man who played the American Indian was an Italian ????
Very few people know that. I wonder what the cast call looked like.
I would like to think that Coca Cola has the power to go back to their classy glass bottle ?
You are doing great job 👏 hits of to you I shared this video to my social media
So sad..... ;( hopefully things will change for the better
Thank you.
Do you know the best thing about a glass bottle? The product never tastes like melted plastic. I suppose it's a moot point for me since every soda company introduced an unnecessary preservative that I am allergic to.
And then there's the scientists storing the plastic in... yet more plastic.
Sometimes when I wake up, I remember I have Coke in the fridge and my tonsils tingle. I sit up straight, glad I made ice cubes, then make a B-line for the kitchen. A thick, acrylic tumbler's the best, because they're cheap and don't shatter. Ice first, then the Atlanta Holy Water. Glass tilted, mind the head. That's all. Kidding? Don't blame a company for what their customers do.
Gosh hearing the coke man lie made me so mad. He weasels his way out of serious and important questions by outright lying and denying that Coca Cola’s impact FROM 2008 ONWARD have not reflected what they have communicated to the public = LIES LIES LIES.

Was this France24 documentary made in 2017 - 2018? I would love to learn what it is like now as they promised to have as coca cola have made a verbal agreement that in Tanzania will have invested in and have the PET plastic "collection", "reuse" and recycling systems all in place and functioning one year following the filming of this interview. Has this happened yet?
Simple as this guys....if you are unhappy with Coca-Cola.....STOP buying it. Period.
I would love to have her job!!!
I heard that Sam and I agree wholeheartedly.
It breaks my heart to see so much plastic in our beautiful oceans and sea creatures.
Starbutts is launching a BYOVessel to help eliminate plastic waste. It’s a great idea however my concern would be contamination and E. coli. Workers will be handling customers coffee cups and they will be in contact with the machines, spoons, carafes and etc. At least they’re trying

It looks to me like these bumper feet you press into for example table legs which are made of metal tubes, to avoid them scratching the floor.
They usually have these several ridges to avoid the plastic 'foot' falls out of the metal table leg again.
In fact, in my country also plastic bottles do have a deposit. They do have higher deposits than glass bottles and that's why people generally bring them back to the stores. There they are shreddered and recycled. Some turn into reusable sturdy shopping bags. What happens to the others, I actually don't know.
But since the deposit system was established in my country, way less bottles end up in the trash.
Bit of an eye opener
Wow !! This spokesman, Mr Quincey is a joke !! We are stratigizing and doing it now. Not before but now... And its the consumers faults not ours ! Shared this video on fb too !! Absolutely ridiculous & very eye opening!!
Now in 2022, Coke is promoting critical race theory to their customers. 🧐 Wake up!
Knowing humanity, nothing will be done.
That interviewer destroyed the vice-president. It was hard to watch almost haha
I must say, the person from Coca Cola was very patient in answering questions because the journalist was clearly out for blood 😁✌🏼
And so she should be, the state of humanity and our ecosystems is catastrophic and set to get far worse.
@@PointlessPlastic how is that on coca-cola? They sell because there's demand.
@@paulmarden3301 there is demand yes but that’s not the same as a need. The demand is created by marketing, advertising- these people spend zillions on pushing the products- there are whole departments whose job it is to break new markets (in other words “create demand”) ....

Everything in Glass tastes better. Buy any drink in a glass bottle stays cooler longer to. Glass is more expensive its still around if you can find it.
Sample was in a plastic bag!!!
why does this only have 67k views
She found plastic in fish stomach and store in plastic bag. How stupid we humanity really
When i was a kid pop bottles were glass.. it was cans or bottles why dont they make things refundable would be incentive for peolle to take them back
Oh my,,we need to recycled plastic inorder to protect our environment in whole world..
So messed up 😭
She says they're carrying 70kg of plastic bottles on them up the mountain of plastic bottles but when the guy drops the massive bag it bounces like a balloon. What a maroon.
I live in South Africa. It’s the same poverty economy here when it comes to plastic. They have not done anything here.
Remember it was them that shamed humanity for inventing plastic bottles.. they blamed humanity, not the true inventors.. themselves.
How much Nestle pay to have this made? 😂👍
Is it made by Nestle?
I also miss glass bottle. It's been a long time since the change. Can't single out coke. It's ppl littering that's the problem. There's plenty of recycle bins today. There's also plenty of trash today going in oceans. Where are the garbage containers going? In the oceans. That's a revealing investigation.
Coke is my favorite drink it’s my guilty pleasure/addiction! I do however, recycle my cans, cardboard containers and bottles!
You think you do.......
recycling is not green enough! do not think you did everything rigyht just because you returned or recycled them. Eliminating plastic should be the goal.
@@aons5481 you’re correct
@@aons5481 we can't eliminate but we can reduce it from our daily life, you need to know, research why was plastic evolutionary or why is (sadly) important. I'm against plastic.

Small house??
It’s wild to see that the deposit model isn’t implemented worldwide. For us in Germany “Pfand” is everywhere.
Even on cans. 🤷🏼♀️
Meanwhile, me and my colleagues:
Me: '' Switch off the light and air conditioners if no one is around, it's wasting energy. ''
They: '' Don't you worry, company is paying the bill, not us''
Me: '' You should not throw cigarette butt on the ground. ''
They: '' Everyone is doing it. ''
Me: '' You should bring your own container for the food since you are taking away food literally everyday. You have thrown away 10 disposable containers, 10 disposable spoons in a week... ''
They: Got angry and shouted at me.
People suck, they never change, they are selfish.
I don't understand why the bottles only don't come back, yeah you use to get money back on them but now you get money back on plastic too....
In my country we recycle plastic into park's furniture walk ways and alot of other stuff. But the thing is it's poisoning humans that are shredding it because the fibrosis materials are going into our lungs.
The rest of the bottles? They're all over the place!! How many yoga mats and sneaker soles can we use?
They refuse to use glass
Plastic is totally RECYCLABLE ♻️
20:51... I am from the Philippines and that's what we used to do. We pay an additional 5pesos for the bottle (liter size) and if we are to return the bottle in the store, they'll also return that money. If we buy smaller bottle of coke, the store will put it in a small transparent plastic bag with a straw and that's how we drink it. However, these past few years cokes are being sold mostly in plastic bottles. Other beverage company followed. Now, cokes in glass bottles are rare, you can't even see them in supermarkets. Only small stores sell them, particularly those outside the metro. Yes, it's more convenient but you would always feel guilty buying that knowing it's going to contribute to waste. Every bottle has a print that says we can recycle it but very small percentage get actually recycled.
Buying any bottle of Coca Cola is bad since the company is against recycling its trash. But yeah it is better to buy in glass. Aby product is better in glass
@ 4:17 It's not necessary the producers of plastics bottles or the users...
But the purchaser of the bottle contents;... the very IDLE TWATS 2 LAZY 2 take it home or dispose of it correctly...
They’ve all missed the real problems, besides the stupid ignorant customers. In the poor countries they don’t have proper waste collecting system, water drainage, etc. When the rain season comes, there are always FLOODS washing their garbages into the rivers and eventually the seas. I recycle like religion, but I do it for myself, not for anyone else or future generation. I’ve seen young people around me living like today is their last days, buying and consuming for 5 people instead of for himself.
So Pepsi doesn't use plastic? Hmmm they really dumbing ppl down.
It "is" people who throw their trash on the ground, here in Mexico, apparently it's expected....
Nobody wants to explore space.. but there's a whole lot of space for dumping.. to the smelloscope!.
Why can't they just drop all the plastic in some acid or some type of liquid that dissolves it?
then what happens to that liquid? they'll probably dump it in the ocean
Idk if it doesn't produce microplastics and nano-plastics
But I thought Coca-Cola had the glass version of plastic bottles 🤨🧐
8:17 That "crying Indian" is actually a "crying Italian", the couldn't even cast a real Native American for the role
22;05: I remember those returnable Coke bottles. They were all dinged up from being churned around in a cleaning machine. They were very sturdy, thick glass. And they kept cold a long time.
The Indian crying in video was really Italian. You can look it up
@1:04 The small square of black plastic is the end-cap used to plug the end of a square section of steel used to form either a chair or desk often found in cheaper office furniture. If Tanzania wanted to stop any company from producing endless plastic waste they could do so with ease, it has been done in many countries where plastic bag use is banned, instead of playing with Coke Cola perhaps look at the unexplained sudden wealth of the various politicians that have found the money for a new house, car, mistress. 💰💰💰
43:45 Wow! that's the biggest Afro I have ever seen 😂😂😂
That black plastic thing looks like something they'd pop into the bottom of a chair leg so the metal isn't scratching your floor

Oh wow.increfatle
We want glass bottles not plastic
I already knew plastic was a huge problem to the environment. But this is hilarious, his thoughts, he blames the people. I'm trying to buy pepsi instead. From now on i'm gonna try to think a bit more and try to find glass bottles, if i nessesary need to buy soda.
"The people want plastic bottles..."
The people were satisfied with the glass bottles, but the temptation that plastic are lighter than glass, that's why they started to buy those instead.
Now there's almost no glass bottles left to buy. Why are they ignoring the pullution? Seems like they just want to earn money...
This guy gets paid a lot of money to satisfy a lot of people's concerned..
Dispatch should not be able to sell his product and countries that do not have recycle machines to do the job.. or Coca-Cola will have to take them to another country to recycle them. So I don't know where to start to finish on that note.
It's not Coca-Cola. There are many other makers like Nestle's. Johnson & Johnson. All the huge plastic conglomerates makers. These enterprises could care less about the Earth.. that just say it's not all our problem
That last interview… that journalist was freaking fantastic! And the Coke exec? His answers are Rubbish. In more ways than one.

We must consume less of this garbage
Plastic bottles has had contributed a lot to pollution 'obviously'. We have no choice but to reproduce plastics or recycle as something useful to environment as it also expires like foods, but when not taken properly of, it causes much more than a pollution. Right?...We as an individual, even when we buy products that has this material or even just a small plastic containers, if isn't useful anymore, at least try to recycle it, or the least you can do is throw it in proper trash cans. That's a big help already. We should be always concerned about the things we do, even it's a small thing. Just to share my habit, when I saw plastics in the streets, or somewhere, I would and I'll always get it, and throw to proper garbage dump so if ever there might be someone will benefit from it. Not to brag, I just always want the places clean😅
i guess i throw the fish out into the recycle bin too after dinner?
I kind of wonder why they never try it the other way around with refill systems for bottles.
