    For all those people loosing their minds about the sensitivity of my microphone... I APOLOGISE! (Its a Rode Videomicro if anyone is interested) This was one of the first videos i shot during the trip and didn't really edit it at all. I was also doing it straight from my laptop speakers in the van so couldn't hear just how clear certain things sound.... ua-cam.com/video/BXYPCozJUHg/v-deo.html This is the revised version so please watch this instead before throwing your toys all over the room :)

      Ash Pollard haha some people moan for the sake of it... great build! Might have missed you saying. But how much did it cost? Also what mpg does the van get now?

    It's obvious you put a lot of thought into this...& it paid off. Your easy 3 day window would probably take a few hours now that you've figured it out😁. You should be proud of this. Most people dream of affording this type of luxury item until they are too old to enjoy it. Glad you're making it work. Safe travels.

    Very nice conversion! Proud of you mate for not afraid of doing yourself many things and have your own priorities. Simple and effective solutions without wasting time and money on things you don't need. Many interesting details makes your build different from others, it's obvious you create it with your own plan and imagination. Have a many many nice trips in your creation!

    Dude !
    This is EXACTLY the sort of project I have had running around my head for a few years, thinking of saving to buy a cheapo (ish) van that won't conk out, yeah 100-200,000k Miles isn't too much.
    But definitely build most things myself like what you have. The quality looks decent, the layout is just perfect, has shower, toilet, kettle (obviously!!), gas (lpg) and a telly!
    It has it all.
    You're so right about the high bed. I'm toying with putting a motorbike in the back (Harley !) and didn't know about the height, how high etc, should I get a bike trailer.... but having that high bed just answers everything!
    I've got a mountain bike I was gonna design a sliding rack to put on, but like you say, if you have to build/assemble it every time you want to use it - you won't, I'm exactly the same !!!!
    This is such a lightbulb video!
    I'm glad I stumbled across your channel, will be watching with anticipation for the next few projects you've got.
    I'm planning a Scandi holiday aswell and the van idea just made SO much sense, cost effective, practical, comfortable etc etc....
    It's a no brainer.
    Only question so far - is a 300w panel enough?
    Or does it REALLY depend on how much sun/power the solar panel has gleaned that day?
    I'm probably having the fridge always on, music or telly, and the kettle for the Tea.
    I guess you can always charge the batteries when you're driving aswell can't you?
    Anyway - CONGRATULATIONS mate on a fantastic job.
    May have been said before - but it IS inspirational, and gives ming mongs like me the confidence to have a go for themselves.
    I can't weld !
    I can't plumb or gas anything....,
    I'm just a driver who has a saw and a drill !!!!
    Well done. Seriously.
    Well done !!!!
    Matt

    Nice job there. As far as the mileage on your van, it's very low for one of these. I used to own one of these 35S13). I bought it new in 2003 and ran it as a courier van for 10 years. When I sold it in 2014 it had over 700,000 miles on the clock. Original engine, gearbox and back axle. I only sold it because the body was starting to rot. I'm sure you'll get many years of use out of yours.

    Clever solution with the Velcro at the bottom of the blind by the seating, I've seen other solutions with wood or metal channels to tuck the blind into but yours is so simple anyone can do that.
    You might want to turn your roof hatch around so if you accidentally drive off having forgotten to shut it the wind will close it instead of ripping it off, hope that helps. Thanks for sharing.

    I subscribed ! just at 17th person. I really like your van conversion. you got the shower, kitchenette thingy, bed and huge storage. You really did the most with the space, than i have ever seen.
    pound for pound you did it.
    I got a LWB high roof Iveco Daily 2006, bought for 5k, spent alot on mechanical repairs which you can work out here.
    The total conversion was 25k, which after 700 nights has paid for itself. The actual physical / asset motor-home conversion was £12724.81.
    I shall paste my whole setup, only main differences are: erecting with curtain bath tub/shower, stored under folding bed, i got 3 tanks of water (lasting 10 days for a single person dry camping), huge solar,: being totally off grid (no hook ups), grey water is undercarriage refuge tank, with tap.
    Also swivel captain seats with no wall, making a dinette thing, my tip is to keep as much as possible 12 volt only.

    Very nice conversion ! What did you do for replacing the rusted out floor in he back before the conversion? Did you add additional rustproofing after the chassis rebuild? Interesting control panel for the heating and air conditioning, it is almost identical to the ones used by Ford in their Crown Victorias that were the mainstay of police cruisers in the USA about a decade ago.

    Hi Ash. Don't know how I missed this the first time around, but seen it now. Excellent.
    Some great work there. Given that my Optare Alero (that I mentioned to you yesterday) is based on an Iveco chassis and maybe the same (2.8turbo diesel) engine as yours, I'd be very interested to know a bit more about acquiring and fitting the right hand stalk so that you've now got cruise control.
    Reading through the Alero manual, I've seen a reference to cruise control, so perhaps some of them DID have it, but I don't think mine does as it stands.
    I was also thinking of doing the exact same thing that you've done with your LPG cylinder. i.e. the valve arrangement on top that allows a pipe to an external LPG filler. Any chance you could do a short video on that, or at least some pointers as to where you got the parts?
    All very inspiring.
    Regards Mark in the UK

    Inspirational stuff dude. GREAT idea to make your own ceiling light that you can access the roof from: GENIUS.
    Hand painting the van is a top idea too. Who says that we 'must' have them sprayed? I'll install a underfloor grey water tank for kitchen/shower and dispose as suggested. I'm going with the solar showers too, and I guess I could use some kettle-water in winter/overcast. Finally, you've convinced me to go for a rear parking camera; also handy to check if anyone suspicious behind the van. Enjoy your travels.

    Thanks for this inspiring video on how to convert a LWB Iveco Daily into a really nice RV. Great video great build. What's the height of the bed space and garage beneath it ? Just looking around for a van and that's one of the design/ layout questions I'm struggling with. Thanks

    • @LostInEurope
      @LostInEurope  7 років тому +1

      Hi there, im not sure of the exact measurements right now but to give you an idea. both areas are, "snug" lets say. it doesn't feel claustrophobic in the bed so thats the main thing but you cant sit up straight without bending a bit, (dont need to sit up when your asleep :D)the key is to keep it light and airy, hence the white paint and double roof hatch. but there is enough room for two to sleep comfortably and then ample room underneath for two bikes with loads of space still left over.

    I like your conversion and as I was thinking of getting the same van you've answered my first question.Can I put a full height shower in the van .I like the way you've made it practical and simple without spending ridiculous money as I also want to make all my own furniture.

      Thanks Tony, glad you enjoyed the tour! Yea, the base van build cost about 5k all in (including the van)
      I've added lots of extras since then but you can definitely get on the road for not a lot of money.

    Hello Ash,its a fantastic job youve done on that Daily.Just wanted to ask what you used to line the walls as it's sort of shiny on the video.Is it that bathroom type panel? I'm actually in the middle of doing the same van myself,heavily insulated like yours,nearly finished the bed now which is almost exactly the way you have yours but the biggest difference is I am sticking the shower on the other side.

    Cool van, good job. I would consider moving that fire extinguisher out of the "garage". You got both gas, batteries and high voltage in there. In case of fire, you won't be able to use the extinguisher. Put it either under the seats up in the driver cabin or directly inside the camper door.

    • @LostInEurope
      @LostInEurope  7 років тому +1

      Hi there, Thanks a lot! There is actually a second extinguisher up in the front cab that i forgot to show so we a covered for both sides.

    • @LostInEurope
      @LostInEurope  3 роки тому

      Thank you 👍🏻haha oh no... 🤣 yea mine was the rear crank seal but the garage I took it to were guessing and had the engine out twice! £1200 in labour for a 20 quid seal. I've heard you can do it by just dropping the gearbox though so someone who knows what they are doing could do the job much quicker.

      I mean, I'm pretty biased because I've got a big beast! But, I'd say go experience it for a while in your van, that will teach you how you want to build out a bigger one in the future. I started out with a Citroen dispatch... Sh***** in fields got real old, real fast 😂

    mate, you should be proud of your build. You say yu arent a professional but from what i have seen you have created a really nice home from home, stop putting yourself down. My only comment would be that you really should isolate your wiring in the garage, what i mean is to put it into a fuse box just in case you get any shorts which will cause a fire.. the other thing is YOU MUST install a fire alarm.. you have a very lovely looking girlfriend so you dont want to loose her in a fire...

    • @LostInEurope
      @LostInEurope  7 років тому

      Hi Steve, thanks for the feedback! There actually is a fire alarm and a carbon monoxide alarm in the living space i just forgot to show them on camera :D the fire alarm is above the tv and carbon is next to the solar meter.
      In regards to the wiring, yea i know it looks a bit ghetto haha! But, its all 12v and every outlet from the bus bar is individually fused and there is also an isolator between the battery/panel and also the solar/battery in case of emergency. I would like to get a proper unit to contain it all though so it doesn't look so scary but that will be a project for when i get back :)

    Hey mate, nice camper. I'm proper tempted to pick up a extra long-wheeler like this for a project/home.. What was the gross weight on this after the conversion? Did it max out on the 3500kg limit for the normal license? Cheers, J.

    Hi. Not sure if I’ve asked you about your welding yet but I’m interested to know what you did with the battery while welding. Did you remove the starter battery to do the job? Did you unplug the engine ECU? I’ve got the same van and need to do a little welding in the rear area of mine, wanting to know what to do about the computer of the van. Don’t want to damage any of that gear. Great vlogs mate. Keep them coming 👍😎

    • @LostInEurope
      @LostInEurope  5 років тому

      Hi dude, I'm pretty sure I disconnected the battery and ecu when I was doing it. Ecu is just two block connectors going into the top, takes 5 seconds to remove so better than wrecking it.

    thank you so much for this video, it's very inspiring! I am looking into buying, converting and traveling to Europe in 2019 so this was really cool to see, as I don't have the "fancy conversion budget" I often see into this kind of videos :) I can't wait to do it! Question about shower cabin, is it some camper standard and you just mounted in or you build it? it looks awesome!

      That's awesome, wish you the best of luck with your build and hope to see you on the road one day! The shower room I just built myself, it's really simple. Pvc panels lining the walls with a cheap tray at the bottom. The curtain rail is plumbing pipe and shower head is another cheap ebay job with one pipe running to a tank.
