  • Starting from the train station where Abraham Lincoln arrived in Gettysburg in November, 1863, we take a stroll through downtown Gettysburg for a Civil War tour. Kris White, Doug Ullman and Sarah Kay Bierle on the call. #gettysburgtour
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

The fact that there’s period confederates marching behind just added to the awesomeness of this video! Great job y’all 👍🤘

Yes.. I marched as a confederate 25 years ago. Its about re-unifying.. Much like the 75th reunion of veterans and the Peace Memorial.

I wish someone who marched as a Confederate would comment and tell us if they got any flak from anyone. I would be proud to march there as a Confederate because my ancestors fought there as Confederates… but in this day and age I don’t think I would do so without being armed (real, not prop). Have heard too many stories about people being attacked.

@@historyandhorseplaying7374 There was one protester that walked along side the rebs with a sign that read "these men fought for slavery" he's a regular at the parade. Sometimes there's a group on the corner of the square too but it's usually pretty pathetic.

@@turinturambar8622 Am glad to hear that there is no trouble. I stayed at the stone inn just outside town when I went a few years back. The owner/manager had just taken down the portraits of Lee etc from the room I was staying in, and they were on the floor in the hallway. I asked her why the portraits had been taken down. She answered that they might be offensive, and she sat me down and wanted my input on “what to do with them”. I guess because I’m obviously Latino she’d get an answer like “throw them out” or something. I told her “give them to me”, I’m a member of the SCV and I’d give them a place of honor. She quickly changed the subject and got up… that concluded the conversation :)

@@bajabret60 Yes. However, I interpreted the theme of the stop in front of the Democratic newspaper and the story of Penelope to signify the silent pillar of democracy during the Civil War.

4 times I’ve been there..totally love this town and the battlefields along with food and haunted places..I did experience orbs at the Farnsworth house and pushed by something but no one was there at a wine shop downtown..that was creepy..

This was awesome! I haven't spent much time in the town like this (and I've been to Gettysburg many times) and it is so cool to learn more about the town and what happened here after the battle.

Gettysburg is such an overrated battlefield. A pure tourist trap. Go to Sharpsburg. A superior experience compared to Gettysburg.
