I can't thank you guys enough for all the tireless work you do both educating and preserving American History. You guys don't get nearly enough thanks, so. Thank You.
I can not wait until you hook up with JD and Chris. Their channels along with ABT are my favorites. This going to be a fun series with all of you. Gary, JD, Chris ♥️👍😊I love this battlefields. This and Gettysburg are my 2 favorites. They are both #1 on my list.
Antietam and Gettysburg are two totally different experiences. Gettysburg feels like a Civil War theme park. Whereas Antietam's town, Sharpsburg, is so little changed from the 19th century it's incredible.
Thanks so much for all of these videos. I toured Antietam for the first time about 20 years ago...I lived in Frederick MD at the time, so I followed the course of both armies, driving along South Mountain and viewing the three main passes that saw action on Sept 14. Then toured Antietam as it was fought, starting on the northwest end and working my way south. It's alot to see in one day, but I'll never forget it. I hope to go back someday soon and take a few days this time.
I'm really enjoying these videos. Being from Florida, me and a friend did our take of some of the battlefields in our big loop. It took us 2 weeks. We visited Atlanta, Chattanooga, Gettysburg (150 th ), Antietam, Harper's Ferry, DC, , Baltimore, Charleston,, and Savannah. What a great 2 weeks it was. I enjoy learning about the Civil War. It wasn't the best time in American history, but it is history.
Antietam is one of my favorite places to visit. I look forward to yall's anniversary series every year and I am very much looking forward to this year's videos. Thank you!
Thank goodness you guys are doing this. I only live 45 min from there and planned on coming down tomorrow the 17th for the 160th and found out my better half had us tickets to a bluegrass festival. So at least I can watch on here.
Thank you for showing the map at 13:30 minutes in. My 2nd Great Grandfather fought at Antietam in the 64th NY. Now I know what his company specifically did there - attacked Sunken Road with other NY Regiments. Thank you!
I'm sorry I couldn't watch this sooner! I'm too busy being here for it. I went to the 6:00pm opening program tonight. Learned so much I Never knew from it. Thank you to the Battlefield Trust and Garry for putting out these videos! You all inspired me to spend my last week in Harper's Ferry, Gettysburg and now Antietam. It's been so great and this channel and it's enthusiasm are why I am here now!!!
@Ha Ha I'm no battlefield guide but would even help you out during a visit :-). I know the battlefield really well. Is the only well preserved battlefield (protected) in Belgium and around. There are masses battlefields in Belgium, but hardly anybody knows about them, and they are not protected. But i know to find original fighting positions from the battle of the Bulge, since al lot of them are in undeveloped area's.
I want to give you a public thank you to you and American Battlefield Trust for you response to my e-mail and the link to the Antietam maps so that I could retrace my Great-Great-Grandfather's path with the 7th Georgia Inf. Even though I don't know where he was killed the fact that you sent me the info and link to the maps made the battlefield come alive for me. I hope to walk in his steps next year and marvel at the cost on both sides and the distance he had to travel from Cobb County Ga. Thank you and God bless you To anyone reading this please contribute, if you can, to the American Battlefield Trust. They are doing great work for all battlefields, Civil War and Revolutionary. Plus their online resources are top notch.
Not to take away from 9 11 but this was as bad as it can be on our own soil with no foreign govt involved. That bridge is chilling now in it's all quiet
Guess you’re done with the Little Bighorn battlefield, huh? God forbid you spend more then 30 seconds on any battlefield that isn’t civil war or revolutionary war related.
These things tend to be seasonal, and tend to get hit more than once, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was another trip at some point. I remember reading about the whole Chief Joseph thing as a kid, and that would certainly be interesting to do a footsteps trip about that, maybe start a new angle for preserving those spots as well.
Maybe I'm missing something in the comments, but the American Revolution and Civil War are the two wars with the majority of battlefields. There are a couple war of 1812 engagements and the fighting with the American Indians was seldom a battlefield as much as guerilla-type attacks. So I think the ABT does a great job in doing videos of the most important battles in American history.

Thank you!
I finally got around to visiting this past summer. I was so surprised by how small and accessible the battlefield was.
What a time in history, lets hope we never forget, thanks for bringing it to life i enjoy your videos very much.
Can't be there but thanks for sharing
Thank you - I really don't know much about Antietam.

Amazing that the place they are talking, you would NOT want to be standing there in the morning 160 years ago !
On my way
Well Done 👍
Heartland Offensive: William Starke Rosecrans was NOT the Union commander, that was still Don Carlos Buell until after Perryville
Oops. 😀
Those of us in Colorado, New Mexico know where the REAL western theater is ( ha ha)
Hey Gary Phil from the nssa
Are you guys going to be at the battlefield all weekend?
On and off…
Will the re enactments be free too watch? I wanNa go tomorrow with my dad
If you can find them they are free as far as we know.
I thought Bragg was taking on Don Carlos Buell and he Army of the Ohio. Rosecrans was taking on Earl Van Dorn and Sterling Price.
Oops!
Time to throw that hat in the fire my dude. Get a Clint Eastwood hat. Pale rider hat maybe.
I wonder if Lincoln and all the northern soldiers entered all the major cities today if they'd still be proud of their sacrifices
Like these videos but PLEASE tie his hands!
Is the visitor center done yet?
No. I was just at Antietam on Tuesday and they are still working on the visitor center.
They are looking at Mid November per the Rangers at the 6:00pm program last night
Not to take away from 9 11 but this was as bad as it can be on our own soil with no foreign govt involved. That bridge is chilling now in it's all quiet
A little far a Primanti afterward.

I'd like to see them do other stuff too but September 17 is a big deal.
