As a Ravens fan, I still find it hilarious how a checkdown on 4th & 29 ended up being one of the biggest/most important plays in franchise history
Definitely is! I was watching it in real time I couldn't believe we did that crap then seeing us convert will forever last in my head forever along with the mile high miracle. Definitely top ten greatest moments in our history
such a ravens ass way to do that too
I remember seeing that on TV back when it happened. The people I was watching it with, we were all blown away.
@@micaharies Winning is winning.
Greg Roman would probaly do this but it wouldn’t work
Me in Madden:
4th and 32nd even though it’s 1st quarter 😂
@@b0d1e And on your own 2

@@b0d1e never punt the entire game 🤣😤
And your receiver drops it 😢

Such enthusiasm in that play-by-play there. I think somebody just wanted to go home at that point.
Chargers defense had arguably the worst blown coverage in the secondary while trying to deny Ray Rice from converting on 4th & 29!
Seriously. I think Cam Cameron would have been fired way earlier if that didn't work out.
On a check down
Really an elevating play that just beat up on a defense!
@@kevinspencer3242 for the chargers, it's a choke down
Fun fact about the first one: Jeff Janis also caught the subsequent Hail Mary. Because of a 5 yard illegal formation penalty in between plays, Janis had 101 receiving yards on a single drive. You know, on a 100 yard field.
Very impressive
That's a great trivia question, actually.
Gotta be some kind of record
@@tiatripsFr
annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd then lost in OT lol. But those 2 hail marys were soooo exciting!
Eagles 4th and 26 vs the packers will always be my favorite.
3:19 My dad and I were at this game! Ended up being a wild final drive with that conversion, and also a circus Chris Hogan catch down at the goal line. Sammy Watkins caught the game winner in the dying seconds!
Very cool. I loved Hogan
As a Vikings fan it’s weird seeing them in purple as visitors 😂
Watching football: Great play
Playing Madden: So unrealistic
Great idea for a video. Thanks for uploading. With the offseason looming, I'll be depending on your work to once again get me through the drought :)
That game punt by Washington was insane he got so much distance in that throw and it was a beautiful spiral
8:53 Only one foot down
That was before the rules were changed. Back then, if you were forced out of bounds by the defender it was considered a completion. You can even see the ref motioning that he was forced out of bounds.
Nah if my team gave up a first down on 4th and 29 just on a checkdown and they went on to lose the game, I'd have to take a week off from watching them.
That’s why the Chargers are in Los Angeles… only to suck again.
Only a week?
idk how does the defense allow a 4th and 29 converted for a first down 😡🤬
Agreed hahaha.
- Bills fan
A few of these conversions were insane
Gus Frerotte throwing a 65-yard bullet flat-footed is unreal 10:25
I need to know what #45 on the Jets was doing at 5:08 🤣🤣🤣
Guess he forgot which team he was on 😂
The crazy thing is that it actually saved the runner from getting tackled short I believe.
he probably saw open field in his direction, and no holes in the side the runner was going to, so he tried to reverse his direction. plus, his momentum prevented him from really stopping, and on 4th down, theres no difference between him tackling his own teammate and him staying out of the way and letting him get tackled in the direction the runner was going.
Ravens don’t make the playoffs without that 4th and 29 which means they wouldn’t have won that seasons Super Bowl. Crazy how stuff like that happens
Yes they would have, this is a myth. Had they lost this game with all else the same going into week 17 they would have been in a matchup for the division with cincy. They rested their starters for this game because they had already clinched, but with a loss to the chargers they’d have played to win and probably beat cincy.
@@donalddonald348 not exactly a miss bc they coulda still lost to CIN. SO while a loss to SD here doesn't doom them it does mean it's not the same matchups
For a historically bad franchise, the Cardinals have truly been a part of some amazing games
Larry fitz is the man
@@scandelez He will always be my favorite Cardinal player. The fact that he has more tackles than drops is an amazing stat.
We've had our moments no doubt. Superbowl 43 is arguably the best Superbowl ever
@@JDP2104The 43rd Super Bowl was excellent. The 2015 Cardinals were a very good team (probably the best in the history of that team by the numbers), and there’s also the two championships in 1925 and 1947.
And shoutout to the mid 70’s teams for having one of the best offensive lines ever (seven sacks allowed for a season in the mid 70’s is impressive).
Not a good team at all historically, but the Cardinals definitely have had their moments.
@@JDP2104one of my all time favorite SBs
The play at 8:27 led to the Vikings not winning a division title, giving it to the Packers. This led to the play at 10:00 two weeks later, when the Eagles converted a 4th and 26, setting up a game tying field goal at the end of regulation, winning it in OT.
His left foot never touched the ground and it was incomplete. Sadly, this is just a precursor to what we're living in now with the abhorrent state of officiating in this league -- even with instant replay. Oh, well.
@@thouck I think that was before the rule change. If you had one foot down & then were pushed out of bounds it still counted as a catch.
And the play at 8:27 hurt extra bad for Vikings fans because the Vikings started the season 6-0. They're one of two teams in league history to start a season 6-0 and miss the playoffs.
@@thouck 😅
@@thouck the old rule was that if you had 1 foot in and got pushed out like the receiver did then it counted as a catch
Justin Herbert is the king of fourth down conversions
He should go for it all the time maybe he’d actually win a playoff game
Except when he's not. 😂
Lmao Raider fan ^
That’s My Quarterback ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Herbert has definitely developed a knack for that.
Having watched the whole thing though, I was surprised to see that the unsuccessful Bills quarterback Rob Johnson threw the pass that converted the longest fourth down converted in the past 30 years or so.
4th and 34 is a long conversion.
As a kid, when McNabb converted 4th and forever against green bay, it broke my heart. Little did I know that was only the beginning lol
If only Sherman had went for TD on 4th down near halftime. I remember thinking I agree with that choice to go for 3…but afterwards I was thinking, dang, maybe Green could have got that 6.
As a Vikings fan looooooooool, also your QB wants to leave because his team sucks😂😂
@@allisonkrueger8330 you should of left Vikings out of your comment lol I can't even make fun of you, your team is just sad at this point, since they came in the league.

That Ray Rice Play Was One Of The Greatest Ever
It’s plays like these that really just show the beauty of football
Hey Diddle Diddle, Ray Rice in the Middle - That was a black eye for the Chargers Defense.
Very nice compilation thank you
I Love This Incredible Video 📸 NFL Throwback 🏈🏉 Keep Up The Good Work 👍.
Hey diddle diddle Ray Rice up the middle!
That's the first time I've ever heard the Cardinals broadcast on the Nate Poole catch. It's always been Paul Allen's anguished screaming that I've heard.
and it’s weird to consider the losing-team’s announcer’s call “legendary” , but it really is
Same here. As much as I adore Paul's call, it is nice that the winning side's commentators got acknowledged for once.
The excitement sounded genuine, too. I'm sure they might've been worried that they screwed up the tank and what-not, but that 2004 class was beyond deep, and they got Larry Fitzgerald, so they're happy.
That catch was the highlight of Nate Poole's entire career, as he otherwise had an unremarkable 4 year stint in the NFL before retiring.
@@jdb2002He only caught one other touchdown in an NFL game
@@fortynights1513 As I said, unremarkable.
Imagine being so bad at defence, you give up a first down on 4th and 34.
As a Black and Gold fan, I am amazed that we did not allow more boneheaded 4th down and long conversions. I was expecting to see like 12 clips of the Saints blowing 4th down and long and hilariously failing to tackle. Especially when Sean and Drew were on the team…
Awsome video keep up the awsome work
Being a Packer fan, I'll never forget "4th & 26".
this was excellent thanks
2:51 Shoutouts to these commentators putting energy into their call despite the game clearly being totally meaningless.
1:12 I remember that Mike Sellers touchdown as a kid. So cool!
Never understand why people add music to sports highlights. You're here to watch the play not hear how talented someone is at picking a song.
4:25 The Colts D was so bad, it actually hurt to watch
Vikings 4th and 18 deserves to be here more than any others
12:45 in today’s game, the block by Bolden would’ve nullified this play 😒
I remember that Bucs/49ers play from my youth. I watched the Bucs lose every week and they pulled that off against the 49ers, and otherwise scored points on offense. They just couldn’t stop Jerry Rice. It was a wild game.
Dan Campbell would be proud.
All these 4th and 20s were executed at a very high level
That throw by Josh McCown was awesome
When defense coach screaming at you. “1 yard!!”
Was at the Chiefs vs Browns game (2nd to last clip ) and was screaming “make a tackle “ as the rest of the crowd got restless . Browns avg 9 yards a PLAY that first half . One of the crazier games i been to
The longest 4th down conversion I ever saw live was in a high school football playoff game. One team trailing by less than a TD with time running out and facing a 4th-&-26. They either convert or lose the game. Their QB heaves a pass into a crowd about 30 yards downfield. The pass deflects off a player high into the air to a wide-open receiver. The receiver catches the ball and runs it another 50 yards or so for the go-ahead TD. The other team is so stunned by the play they can't muster an answer in the 30 or so seconds they have left and end up on the losing end of a game they thought they had won.
Hey diddle diddle! Ray rice up the middle!
It's amazing that so many of these QBs were lesser known or rated. Glad to see Flaco and Mayfield well represented.
Ray Rice getting an extra 2 pity yards, that knee is down at the 35 lol.
0:53 "What the f*ck" 🤣
5:05 Bro got jumped by his own man 💀
Awsome video
Exciting!!!
9:05 looks like he was push out of bounds before the second foot touch end zone
thats exactly what i thought
At the time, the NFL had a rule known as the "Force Out Rule". This rule applied here, therefore it was ruled by the ref a catch.
As @@GaryAdame777 said until 2008 if the defender pushed you out it was considered a catch. One of my favorite rule changes
Now days Targeting would have been called. 10:15
Just came here to say "hey diddle diddle Ray Rice up the middle!"
I was at that game when Rice picked up the fourth-and-29 for the Ravens against my team. Brutal. It still hurts.
40 seconds in & my cardinals getting worked 😂
It was a 3rd down but I remember the chargers had a 3rd and 33 against the broncos and rivers threw a 50 yard bomb to Vincent Jackson. That play was dope
4th and 26 against the eagles will haunt me my entire life and I was 10 when it happened
Would love to see a “Longest 4th downs ever converted!”
Don criqui commentated the miracle at the Meadowlands, red right 88, marathon at the lake, the jaguars and saints first games, and the longest 4th down conversion
7:40 dudes last name was Slaughter
0:54 Me when the Falcons lost the Super Bowl after being up 28-3 at halftime lol.
It's the middle of July but I'm ready for some football...
All of the Glory goes to God
Rice was a yard short of the first down.
I remember Freddie Mitchell like yesterday!
3:59 - The audio was lifted from another game. The 1990 NFC Championship, Giants vs. 49'ers.
insane amount of 4th and 20s
Best one ever was when Lovie Smith made the call for Houston to beat the Colts on multiple 4th downs in a row, with the last one being the nail in the coffin
That play cost me over $500 on a parlay
@@RandyMoss84GOAT I feel your pain. I have lost much on miracle plays as well.
4:45. That missed interception was painfully on purpose. Scripted sports folks.
curiously the last 2 were not very useful
4th and 26 Fred X - with helmet to helmet that was legendary!
8:27. He got 1 foot in. Nfl took out the force out rule shortly after. Vikings lost division. Missed playoffs on a rule that don’t even exist today.
Crazy right?!
Ray Rice delivering those vicious blows
Can we respect the linemen giving the qb’s enough time to make these plays happen? I mean watch the left tackle come and save the blind side hit from the end at 9:11. Linemen=goats
Nice to see my team on the positive side of the highlight reel while wearing the orange & white 😂
1:27 bring the Redskins back
7:00 that is 100% a fumble
8:55 he isn't even relatively close to being in bounds lol
Do you know the rule back then and why it was a completion?
I think at the time they would’ve ruled he was pushed out. I’m not sure what year it was but that must have been the ruling.
@@davidkaplan5517 Thats wild lmao he didn't even get a foot down in the endzone
@@timlett99 the rules before 2008 didn’t require him to. ”If a wide receiver would land inbounds with both feet but was pushed out by a defender before that happened, the pass would be ruled complete.”
I’m pretty happy they changed the rule because the last thing we need is more subjectivity surrounding what would’ve happened or where somebody would’ve landed had they not been pushed out, etc. The downside now is that defenders have more ability to interrupt that process without negative consequences.
Genuinely thought this would be 14 minutes entirely of Flacco.
I was at that colts game this year
I had not thought about Tandon Doss in like a decade. Crazy.
I will never forget 4th and 26 at the Linc! I was 13 with my family at the game, playoffs ending in a W for the birds! One of my favorite memories! It was a shame Carolina had to ruin it the next week in the NFC Championship SMH

Philly's qb wouldn't have shied away from a fumble even though he's the size of a tight end
Philly should’ve made it to 4 straight super bowls in 2001-2004. They were favored in 2002 and 2003 nfc champ games, and could’ve made it in 2001 over the slightly favored rams
Damn this is crazy
5:57 Announcer sounded shocked and disappointed at the same time
Justin Herbert is the king of fourth down conversions. That Ray Rice Play Was One Of The Greatest Ever.
I grew up in San Diego. I was still pretty young, and had only been interested in football for a few years, but honestly after that 4th & 29 play, I should have known just from that.
Never have hope for the Chargers.
(I finally ragequit them in 2016 when they became the only team to lose to the Browns in two years.)
[It's amazing the Chargers are on the GOOD side of this list MORE THAN ONCE. I've never even HEARD of the quarterback at 0:38!]
If I owned the chargers, I would move them back to San Diego.
7:11- If you ever need to prove an old Giants fan that you're a real Giants fan too... then just tell him that your favorite wife receiver growing up was _Ike Hilliard_ haha
That'll _DEFINITELY_ get him!
8:27 it is so funny that I watched this in Arizona (I don’t live there) and I was like, “Yes! Yes yes yes!!!!!”
