I’m 77years young and I’m having a good life I’m enjoying good health enjoy my freedom I’ve finally distant myself from my adult children I miss them and my grandchildren who live in another country from me life can be lonely here in the winter in Ireland but I always make walking a priority having a car gives me freedom to travel to places that I like to visit and I always find nice people to talk with I avoid senior citizen activities because I don’t find interacting with people who only talk about their health and grandchildren I love younger people and children and I chat to them about their interesting lives

By the tone of your comment, it is best you avoid people…I’m sure you are insufferable to be around for any length of time. At your age it is probably too late, but I find a sense of humour serves a person well.

@@Katrn30 What is wrong with you? Didn't your mother tell you that unless you have something nice to say, say nothing? I think Eleanor is amazing. She knows exactly who she is, and what she needs in her life. I have never joined any senior groups, either, and never will. I also do not depend on my grown kids, and they can not depend on me, or take me for granted. I am done raising them. I have a life, and I deserve to do what makes me happy. I think Eleanor feels the same.

Thank you for your help, this is my story. I'm living with my daughter... It's not what I wanted, but circumstances had made me make that decision. I'm not happy with my live , sick and depending on my daughter was not my plan for my elderly years.
She is a single mom with a 13 years old . She divorced her husband because a bipolar condition , it was a nightmare living together.. She works hard and have to travel a lot. I'm the one who stay at home and take care of my grandson and the dog. I'm on charge of running the house practically. I have some time for myself to watch my programs f I have time, but that's about it. She travels a lot!! My grandson is sweet to me but being a teenager , his live is after going to school, chatting with friends or playing online. My daughter is always complaining about everything and I'm sick just to hearing her yelling at her son or yelling at me. I don't have an alternative, because I have no money to rent an apartment. And I love my grandson, who is going to take care of him ???

She is yelling because she is tired - maybe working at her job requires her to work 12-14
Hours with no breaks for lunch
Etc. Then she has no energy to show you love or her son love. She maybe unaware she
Even yelling. I am sure she appreciates and loves you and her son . Is her job demanding . Pray and ask God to help you with this issue.
Than you for your wonderful love you have for her your daughter, your grandson.
      Such a wonderful family.

Children weren’t asked to be born ! You parent(s)wanted them , as I am one too. I wanted a child and they don’t stop being your child (children) just because they grow up. You still need to be there for them when they need you from time to time so they still have the sense of belong to who can support them mentally when you can’t do both (financially) that’s my opinion as a mother to my over 20 yrs old son. When I can’t support him financially at least I can support him mentally 😊 and he knows that.

      Baby steps…👣
Sometimes being on your own with your own thoughts can be uncomfortable, but don’t fight the discomfort, sit with it for a while, let it be a more familiar feeling.
Maybe go out for a meandering walk by yourself at a nearby park for the sole purpose of being alone with your thoughts? You can set a time limit.
After a few times, your thoughts might solidify to a few ideas on what you might like to try out in this new phase of your life.
Whatever you decide upon, give it time like 3-6 months because they are new to you and you are out of your comfort zone. And remember, you are allowed to change your mind 😊

I agree! I am almost 77, and I don't feel old at all. At least not yet! I do everything I have done my whole adult life, maybe a bit slower. I am on my own, and enjoy my life more than ever. 60 is quite young, but you must take care of yourself, by not smoking, or drinking, or overeating, or sitting too much. Engaging in physical activities, having a rich social life, eating nutritious food, getting enough sleep, living a stress free life, getting rid of toxic people, and having a positive outlook at life is a key to a healthy aging.

I suffer of cronic pain and three autoimune diseases. My sisters live in Canada and deal with her own problems...my parents are not their concern. I manage my parents money and everyday lives. My husband and I have started to travel to see our medical doctor in Boston more often. We have started to think to live with he and his wife, we are very lonely people socially partly because we have been taking carevmy parens for 8 years. I can not see myself living with my husband.
