If your HP laptop won't turn on, try these solutions. It's not uncommon for systems to simply not come to life when you hit the power button. There are many things that you can do to make this work again. Let's hope you don't need to take it in for repair. Try these methods before you go that far though.

I was going insane-- my one-year-old hp refused to turn on. I unplugged and re-plugged every connector, checked my surge protector, everything! I was crying after 1 1/2 hours of trying. This video saved my life. I use hp pavilion gaming. The power button was just blinking refusing to come on. Tried everything until i removed the battery, held down the power button for 20sec, then inserted the charger and pressed the power button once then pressed windows B. It came on.

Nev, thank you! Your tech tips worked successfully with my HP Envy Bang & Olufsen (March 2023). It was necessary to go through your recommended steps from power chord to windows plus B, then power. It definitely took 2 minutes to RE-boot/reset itself. Thank you!

THANK YOU!!! It worked! It was fully charged (light on), but the power button was not lit up. I pushed several times without success. Following your suggestion, unplugging and holding allowed that light to go off, and once I plugged it back in, the power button lit up once again (hooray!) and then when pushed the laptop started right up. I would suggest going straight to step 2, for any having this issue, so that you don't have to deal with the battery unless you have to. Unplugging, holding the power butter 20 seconds +, plugging back in and trying to turn on, worked like a charm. I appreciate you so much.

Bcz of not using for 1-2yr, its display got moisture from inside.
Now, laptop is turning on, keys light are on, but screen is black.

Naw, plugging it in all night is perfectly fine. If it is new, you probably want to return it to the store.

OMFG! I have one of the original HP Envy machines (my mistake) and you just saved me a bunch of money. What worked for it was holding the power button down 20 secs, plugging in and then it powered right up. First time in several months. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I don't really know which of your steps worked for me, but I did this: unpluged, 20 sec push start (on), nothing, plug again then windows & B key pressed and voila blinked and start directly to normal screen, no diagnostics screen. after like 3 minutes and complete work after like 10 minutes, thanks man

Whats the CMOS battery you replaced.
I tried all the tricks and I even removed the little battery that looks like a coin, patient with all the process but it did not work

Thank you for the post, The option of pressing Window key and (B) then power button partially worked. It powered on with power light and volume indicator on and I hear the fan running but screen is still black and nothing else is happening. Any thoughts?

Thanks! I replaced the battery and used your technique start button and B button to get it going. I have an HP Pavilion laptop. I had to do it three times.
You saved my laptop! I tried the Microsoft window-B-power button fix. It worked. Had to do it twice but the bios screen came on. Went through step up and bingo it worked. It took about 20 seconds for the bios to pop up.
Going to back up everything right now. Been procrastinating to do that.

Great video. Straight and to the point without having to watch 30 minutes of useless talking, like some videos! For me, Windows 10 had updates to install and after that, the power button would not turn my work HP Elitebook on. Thought I had a free day with no work(!) but the remove power adapter, press/hold power button for 20+ seconds, then turn on process worked for me. Now, back to work...

One night I close my n16p5’s lid and after 24 hours I lift it back up. Black screen. “The battery must have drained”, I thought. So I plug it in and still nothing.
Now panicking, because I need to do my assessments before Monday, when our new topic starts, and it is the weekend 😩
Several repair tutorials later (three, four?), yours is the only one that stated that WINKEY+B+POWER BUTTON should be pressed longer.
All other tutorials advise to press that combination and let go, waiting for the screen to pop up.

The 3rd option, holding the power/windows/B button. I have not turned the laptop on in over a year (HP Pavilion 15-cc5xx intel Core i7). I spent a year digitizing 8mm film that was over 70 years old- used Movavi to make it into a movie that was 1hr 30minutes long. I was brutal with the laptop doing this project. Then all of a sudden it just would not turn on one day. I tried everything. I have had an IT person work on laptops in the past-it's my experience that it's sadly more cost effective to buy a new laptop. I was in total shock that this worked. I do have a new IT person now and hope he can help me get it up to speed. I just want to use it as a back up for basic internet surfing, movies, and music. Thanks so much for the super helpful video.

Thanks a lot. Trying almost everything and it didn't work. But tried the last option by removing the small round battery and it did the trick. Seems it's getting weak or something.
I am so happy and greatful this came up in my feed. I spilled a drink on my HP laptop and it was completely dead for about a month now. The light didn't even come on when I plugged it in. I plugged it into today after viewing your video and the charging light was on. I tried turning it on normally and it did nothing until I pressed the Windows + Alt keys then I got a screen about the CMOS resetting to the default and to press enter. Once I pressed enter it came up normally.
