Aw thanks so much! I want to do it again but i think this time slightly smaller scale and i want a naturalistic vibe so being a bit picky on what and how. ;) planning a playpen overhaul and want to really be thoughtful about how i set it up.
Two is the bare minimum. I honestly recommend 3 instead though. They don’t require that much more care than 2 and its less likely to have one alone if a rat passes away. They don’t eat much more, or require much more in terms up bedding, cleaning etc. According to some studies 5 is the best number though for a new rat owners 2-3 is more manageable. Its also easier to vet 2-3 when they get older and need end of life care.
