  • 12th April 2016. A teenage girl left her school in Yorkton, Canada and CCTV tracked her throughout the morning. When she failed to meet her grandmother after school, concerns were immediately raised as this was so out of character. As time ticked by and the timeline of that day came to light, it left many with more questions than answers.

I feel very bad for the mom, but at the same time I can't help but feel like she isn't allowing her remaining kids to live at all again. Like, she's not celebrating birthdays, not even her other kids birthdays, she's not allowing them to celebrate christmas, nothing. It's like she thinks letting her other kids live more or less normally would be unfair to her missing daughter, but it's not the kids faults.

I feel more bad for the other kids. While yes, she’s lost a daughter, they’ve lost a sister _AND_ a mother. She’s basically told them their lives are completely unimportant to her and not worth celebrating. That’s terrible.

I was thinking the same while watching. It's just making the entire situation so much more traumatizing for them as well. Although I can understand where she's coming from. Can't imagine you're in your right mind after your child goes missing.

As I watch8ng this I felt the same. Im sitting here trying to think of a way to express it in a comment yet I kept drawing a blank. My heart too, goes out to both family & friends. I dont want to even begin how her mom & siblings feel on a daily basis for years now.
While I admire her courage & strength as a mother I also know that one child is missing, there are still 2 more in the family that need their mom. The same milestones Macayla went thru will also be ones her brother & sister will also endure, but in a very, very different manner. By totally dedicating herself to finding her missing daughter for 6+years & counting her other 2 children have not only lost their older sister, but also have lost their mom as well. I really hope th3y find answers in this case, but in the meantime I hope her mom & siblings get some help in how to process all this effectively. To anyone reading this, my opinion in no way is intended to be hateful or judgemental.

This is exactly what I thought! How sad for the other children that suddenly they're treated as unimportant entirely, and made to feel like their entire lives have to be devoted to missing and searching for their sister. They're just kids; it's not their fault, and it's absolutely not fair that they don't get to have anything to celebrate anymore.
Especially bc I think we all have seen enough of these cases to know that the chances that their sister was alive past the first day are very extremely slim. Whoever she met up with did not have good intentions for her, and while occasionally miracles do happen and people are found years later, statistically speaking, the odds are very much not in her favor. 😞

I feel the worse for the other siblings. Parents completely stopped being their parents, and just became a missing girls parents. No parties. No birthdays. No nothing, until she comes home. That trauma from the parents, not the disappearance, has stuck, as at the end it speaks about how the brother can barely get a drink without guilt if Mikayla is able to drink. Dang.

I agree. Even though the mother is broken she has a duty to nurture her remaining children. The footage of Mekayla strikes me as odd. Previous self harm, accutane which is known to cause psychosis and suicide so much so that it has severe warnings and is banned in many countries I believe, asking strangers for help with a hotel room? All of this strikes me as someone very troubled. If she was going to meet a predator she wouldn't seem so aimless. Plus what sort of predator doesn't have a plan and a place booked to meet their victim. I believe she wanted to disappear either alive or not.

Yes she physically left on her own, but she’s a kid, she could be easily convinced of so many things by someone who made her think they’d care for her. And predators are well aware of the consequences for luring a child, they may very well resort to homicide after meeting up with the kid and assaulting them as planned. I'm so sorry for Mekayla's siblings, who must deal daily with the loss, are consistently reminded of the loss, and have no birthdays or holidays observed. The mother may as well say to those children, "You don't matter. Only Mekayla does." Part of the problem in these instances, is that often times the family creates a narrative about the child’s home life that excludes things that put the parents in a bad light. Thus it may seem like a child who runs away actually has no reason to do so, but in reality it is not as clear cut. That isn’t to say this person had a “bad” home life, just that they may have been escaping something the family isn’t talking about.

I always notice the little things in a story that people glide over. How can the mother not be sure who the father is... and doesn't that say a lot about her and the situation? Mekayla seems to have done a lot of lying to her friends... but she's being portrayed as an angel and all her weird actions called "out of character." Hmmm... could this be a case where the Mom is sanitizing her daughter's memory, but all of this was completely within her character? What kind of 16 year old pretends she has drugs or asks a stranger in a Tim Horton's to help her book a hotel!?? This story is sad, but clearly she wasn't the perfect child her mother is trying to portray.

They are still there and as difficult as it would be they need normality. I would never give up looking either but the siblings are little kids and even though they're sad and scared for their sister they are getting punished because she is missing. I don't live far from where this all happened, and right from the first day, I've always kinda felt that somehow, she was groomed and trafficked. We see so often where parents say that it was unusual for a kid to leave or act like this because home was awesome, but their friends always tell the truth on this. I just kinda feel that if Mikayla was having a rough go at home, her friends would have said so by now and it would make sense that she'd run off and cut ties with family & friends.
I did the same thing when I was her age - a year of planning and then I just disappeared. But that was 32 years ago and a very different time. For her to just vanish from social media is wild.
So either her mother and brother (there's no mention of the other sibling in the entire video) are hiding what was going on at home, her friends are hiding what was going on at home and are protecting her by not telling anyone, she was groomed and trafficked, or she was murdered.
It's horrific to think of any of it and I truly hope she's safe, even if she doesn't want anyone to know where she is.

  • @loveforeignaccents
    @loveforeignaccents 2 дні тому +12

How heartbreaking for her mother and siblings. Was Mekayla that unpopular of a girl that she was trying to seek friends through Snap and, as she stated, had no other friends, and seemingly made up fibs to try and impress people? I am inclined to think that she met someone online, which is why she left school and was at Horton's and looking out the window for someone and wanting to get a hotel room. I also think she ended up meeting up with said person, who didn't have good intentions. Of course that's just my speculation. Hope I'm dead wrong, and somehow, some way, she ends up being found safe and sound someday... soon!
Thanks for featuring this case. I always think missing persons' cases need the most coverage.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, sissies!

Several of Michaela's friends had differing accounts of things she had said about her biological father.
One said Michaela didn’t know him,
Another said she thought he had passed away.
A man called Rick… said he believed he was Michaela's Dad,… but *Paula said there was no evidence for this*.

I am so confused by this response. Wouldn’t Paula know?
This is not the first person on earth to ever be born from a single mother, I get that. But now that Michaela is missing, doesn’t Paula think she might want to find out if Rick actually is Michaela’s biological father and if he and she were in contact? It seemed just kind of dismissed on the vaguest of grounds.
Sure, under normal circumstances that would be none of the public’s business. But this is a case that Paula wants to be in the public eye. Knowing that this is one of the very scant few clues available, how is it just going to be lightly glossed over while scouring hundreds of miles around multiple provinces on the flimsiest of sighting tips. Those are notoriously and absurdly unreliable.

I simply cannot wrap my mind around the fact that after that April day back in 2016, in the digital age, that not a single trace was ever found.

Nothing about this makes sense. Nothing. This guy in the States claims she self-harmed (and that he was trying to help her find god- weird, so this guy is clearly important enough for Mekayla to tell friends about, but all he has is that little statement?), but the cops rule that out- how? The family? But why would the family know? People that self-harm don't tell family they're doing it. Also, what close-knit family is it that knows nothing about what this girl says or does at school, has no idea she's got two phones etc.? Why is this girl going round telling people she's got thousands of dollars in her account, or that she's got oxy? Are all the kids lying? Was Mekayla telling the truth when she said she had no friends irl (and hence everyone that knew her at school is just making shit up?), or is that another lie/exaggeration? Did she regard her friend from 9th grade as not being one? Let's say she's waiting for someone: why's she asking what time the bus leaves but then never bought a ticket? What's with the hotel booking? What's with this constant running to the bank about, and how does her 'close-knit' family not know about this? How does her mom not know or tell her who her father is, and why is this random guy the mom says isn't her dad "doing his own investigation"?
This girl first and foremost comes across as someone that had a long running psych issue that she hid really well from her family (that 'close-knit' family again!) or had some kind of sudden mental breakdown leading up to April 12th. She may have got groomed, but this girl either had a psych issue or just really shitty friends.

The mother only said that she couldn't celebrate birthdays and Christmas that year when her daughter first went missing. She didn't say it again in the video. I can imagine the 'firsts' were the hardest. The siblings will of course be affected but you don't know their daily routine. She obviously worked before and her mother drove her and Mekayla to and from places. So grandparents, family and friends will be helping and if any of you work full time and have children then you know other people look after your children at times when you can't. It's a very difficult situation, if she stopped looking then the siblings could think 'she's not that bothered about Mekayla being missing if she's not searching for her'. They're probably all having counselling and no one knows what they'd do or how they'd react in this situation. As a mother it would be your worst nightmare. Please remember unless you've walked in someone elses shoes dont judge, just be kind.

What's up with these stupid comments some people make? "Maybe she's in Bali". Do you think that's funny? This is a real girl with real family members. Why do you think it's OK to make jokes about such a horrible situation?!

This video was deeply moving and incredibly well-researched. The case of Mekayla Bali is heart-wrenching, and the detailed timeline provided here offers a thorough understanding of the events leading up to her disappearance. The inclusion of personal anecdotes and the emotional struggles faced by her family added a profound, humanizing element to the story. Thank you for shedding light on this mysterious case and reminding us of the importance of continued awareness and support for missing persons.

I feel too possible scenarios could have happened. She met someone online and she met with Foul Play and ended up dead. Or she met someone online and they ended up trafficking her. The fact that she was on the phone but they couldn't Trace her phone calls means to me she had two phones. She was hiding something.
