I don’t know if you are aware, but India’s representative for Miss World is the Miss India runner up. The one who wins Miss India goes for the Miss Universe competition. The second runner up in Miss India becomes India’s representative for Miss Asia. Sushmita Sen was the Miss India when Aishwarya Rai was the runner up. Sushmita went on to win Miss Universe. Lara Data was the Miss India when Priyanka was runner up. Lara Dutta went on to win Miss Universe. In fact, till date Lara Dutt has the record for the highest ever score from the judges in the Miss Universe Competition. She was 10 on 10 for 4 of the five judges and the fifth judge scored her at 9.9 for an average of 9.98!

Another contestant lent her that and asked her to keep them as a token of her victory. Her story is actually astonishing!

I have read a conspiracy theory about why India won so many beauty pageants during 1990's. All the giant beauty and cosmetic companies wanted to establish their business in India and so these big corporations made them win these titles and then immediately all these winners were seen endorsing the beauty products and brands. Also you can see the same trend that was followed for Venezuela which won a lot of Miss Universe titles along with other South American countries.
During the 90s, India was a huge potential market for fashion and cosmetic brands, therefore India won so many times during the 90s to promote cosmetic products and fashion using miss india as the face. That was the rise of our "fair and lovely"😂😂😂

India holds the record of maximum no. of pageant winners in a decade as a country i.e. in between 1990-2000. 2 miss universe and 4 miss world, and if there is more I don't have knowledge about that.
We already had 6 miss world 1966 - Rita Faria.( First Indian to win miss world) 1994 1997 1999 2000 2017 2019 - suman Rao 2nd runners up and miss Asia.
My interpretation of 'dusky' as used in the media is that it is an underhanded compliment. Like they're saying you're dark, but still pretty. I think it still has negative connotations but maybe the word can/will be reclaimed by women who have had to deal with the label for years.

The second runner up in Miss India becomes India’s representative for Miss Asia. Sushmita Sen was the Miss India when Aishwarya Rai was the runner up. Sushmita went on to win Miss Universe. Lara Data was the Miss India when Priyanka was runner up. Lara Dutta went on to win Miss Universe. Dusky is not a derogatory term just as fat isn't. It's all in people's head. It's a physical characteristic defined by a word but those who discriminate on the basis of these characteristics will find them "offensive" which they are clearly not.
I have read a conspiracy theory about why India won so many beauty pageants during 1990's. All the giant beauty and cosmetic companies wanted to establish their business in India and so these big corporations made them win these titles and then immediately all these winners were seen endorsing the beauty products and brands.
Also you can see the same trend that was followed for Venezuela which won a lot of Miss Universe titles along with other South American countries.
last year (2019 as no Miss World contest was held in 2020) Suman Rao represented India at Miss world and she was 2nd Runner up there!!

'Dusky Beauty' is a traditional compliment for darker beautiful women - in the same way as 'tall, dark & handsome'.
In year 2000 India won Miss World, Miss universe and Miss Pacific too.. all the three titles
My interpretation of 'dusky' as used in the media is that it is an underhanded compliment. Like they're saying you're dark, but still pretty. I think it still has negative connotations but maybe the word can/will be reclaimed by women who have had to deal with the label for years.

@@sudhirmishra7229 It was meant to release at the end of 2020 but because of covid they only managed to shoot 60% of the movie and the shoot got halted. They have now resumed the shoot and is expected to release now at the end of this year.
