I home school all my children in U.K. with no problem 😮. There are UA-cam channels out here that show the rill ups and downs. And some channels have gone as they have moved back to U.K. I need to learn the language, but I suffer with really bad reading and writing. I am 60 years old and it really frustrates me, especially with my anxiety but lucky enough, my lawyer and the estate agent and a few friends I have met and help me along the way, but I still got to overcome my fears and anxiety. I’m getting there slowly out there in March to sort out my Land and I’ll be driving through France and Spain all on my own once again for the second time in my life. what an adventure take care.😊
Catching up on your videos in no particular order, so my apologies if you already know this, but as I mentioned in another comment elsewhere, the Irish citizenship route could be your best and quickest bet. From what I've heard it's taking about 7 months to process claims these days (not the 9 months the DFA website suggests, and it's much faster than the 2 years it used to take). I'm three months into the process myself, and (im-)patiently biding my time... BTW Just be aware that Duolingo tends to focus on Brazilian Portuguese, so you may want to look out specifically European Portuguese online resources instead. Boa sorte!
Yeah most of our UK videos we were filmed a while ago, we are here in portugal now, Irish birth registration hit a few blockers, but we almost have it in. Yes we saw the 9 month thing, we have heard some getting it back within 3 months, so hopefully you get yours soon. And yep, duolingo is Brazilian, but I was told it's much better to learn that as the major difference is pronunciation but that that can be learnt when here. However, duo lingo in my opinion is such random words etc, and while they are accurate, most is useless to us currently. We use other methods primarily now :) Good luck with your journey also :)
Yeah, I've just seen a flurry of your videos appear in my YT feed and realised you are further along the way than I imagined. Good for you. Three months you say? That's a brilliant bit of news if it turns out to be right. Fingers crossed for both of us. And I'll let you know as and when mine turns up, just in case you were curious. As for Duolingo, I've heard similar criticisms so I'm glad you've found alternatives. Enjoy yourselves in Portugal - it's pretty grim back here. ;)@@theportugalchapter
The problem with English speakers is that most don’t speak a second language, specially if they come from the U.K. In continental Europe that is not the case. You will find that in Portugal getting by with English is very easy.
Ah thank you, yes we want to learn Portuguese because we feel that is respectful, however since being here, we have had to rely on English a little as the Portuguese language is tough! We find that main cities there are people who speak some English, so we do a mixture, but the smaller villages are mostly Portuguese. Appreciate it 😃
Guys i dont want to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately you cant do 3 months portugal and 3 months spain as its part of the same schengen area. It would need to be 3 months in europe then 3 months back to UK 😔😔😔. So many factors to consider its a mine field
This was an old video haha, we know, we made the mistake of looking individually at the different countries, so we saw they said 3 months, but when you look, its the Schengen area as a whole. We did mention this in one of the videos previous. It sure is hard work navigating all the info!
@@theportugalchapter we've been battling too planning for one thing and then having to re-evaluate. But the good thing is your making progress at every step. Won't be long until your out there. Me and Sophia both had to take on second jobs for a few months to get the cash to do it but it's worth it for sure 👍👍👍
One advise dont home schooling your children in Portugal. It's very good for kids in rural areas in Portugal, they have lots of fun things to do in Portugal. The rural areas have a very strong sense of community and your kids going to learn Portuguese in less than 4 months, there is a program inside schools call PLNM (Português Língua Não Materna) that they assign a teacher to the kids that dont speak Portuguese and they in the Christmas time they are fluent in Portuguese (if they start the school in September). In Lamego a foreign family come from China and was the kid (about 10) that was the translator/interpreter to his parents, he was in the same school of my niece.
Whilst I'm sure the schools are great in Portugal, we just prefer to homeschool due to our personal experiences. I also went to a foreign school when I was young and again this is part of my decision for homeschooling. But the language will definitely be a huge priority. But who knows, we will definitely look at schools and consider the best option at the time, as we do not have children yet. Appreciate the help 😃
Yes, we have a video put together too, coming out in a few weeks, we found UA-cam our biggest help when it came to this kind of thing so wanted to help others. But all information is constantly changing, for everything we research on anything to do with living here. We are looking at the Irish passport option too, as that might suit us better. We filmed some of our videos at the beginning of this year, and things just change all the time. Brexit has definitely made things tough. All the best with your move though.x
What I think is In UK, you might have a Party Life , like Pubs, Clubs, Discos, Lot more friends etc.. But If you stay in Off-grid in Portugal, then you would be missing that..that's my belief. Again it depends on how you choose your LifeStyle.. I am guessing you guys will be bored of this Life Soon. But you guys could even do UA-cam on Food, Travel , New places , extreme places, Fun places even in UK where you will Enjoy your Life + Earn a Living. As I see you guys , you look very Partying type, but again It's just my thought. I will definitely will watch you guys on UA-cam even if you change the course of your UA-cam theme..😊😊
We don't do any of that, we prefer the quiet life, but yes this lifestyle wouldn't suit someone like that. I hate partying or anything like that haha We like to explore, Ryan enjoys hiking and climbing and survival stuff, so this lifestyle is the perfect kind of thing. Plus we have online businesses and others we are aiming to grow. Thanks so much for the support :)
