Okay, I know I got a good laugh out of the "screws weren't included to mount the puck lock to the hasp" comment. Proves we're not perfect, just that we're a hard working company that sometimes misses things! We realized about a week ago that our first batches went out without the pucks already attached to the hasps as they should have been (meaning that the screws would be included). A lot has gone into this entire product line, and that detail was missed on our assembly/packaging line. So, if any of you end up getting one of these and it doesn't have the screws, we'll be happy to mail some out to you (just give us a call). They are 1/4"-20 x 1/2" flat head stainless steel screws and you can pick them up just about anywhere. The packaging is actually made from aluminum and not steel. The powder coating on it obviously gives it a steel look and feel, but it's the weight of the product that really makes it feel like steel. We know our packaging is a bit over the top right now, but put yourselves in our shoes. We need to be able to grab the attention of a Pro customer as they're walking down the aisle and, hopefully, grab it enough for them to want to learn more about the product. These pucks and hasps are heavy and silly cardboard packaging just can't hang. So bear with us for a while... once everyone is up to speed on PACLOCK, then we'll find a way to cut down on the packaging. We figured with aluminum, at the very least you can put it into your recycling bin (there should be a sticker on the back of the packaging mentioning that it's aluminum and recyclable). And as a West Point grad I hope all of you can trust me when I say that this is not a sponsored ad or promotional deal with LPL or BB. We trust and respect them (along with the balance of the LockSport community) and value their candid feedback. Fortunately our hard work and innovative ideas seem to be hitting the target so far and that makes these videos seem promotional. In essence, these reviews end up being a bit promotion, but only because the products are really cutting edge for what they're intended to do.
Definitely good to see a company watch reviews of their products so they can learn where they can improve, and where they may have goofed up, and are reaching out to fix their mistakes (i.e. the missing screws). I'd love to see a lock designed for roll up garage doors that have the slide "locks" (google "Mini Warehouse Lock Flat Door" for the style I'm talking about). My shed has one of those style locks, and I would rather have something more secure than a POS "master" lock.
Yes, this is an A+ channel. Along with the qualities you mentioned there is no click-bait involved and LPL isn't putting his picture in any of the thumbs with some silly staged facial expression.
Masterlock had plenty of warnings to fix their products and plenty of time to make the fixes yet they failed to do so. I hope the Paclock line is a huge seller at the Home Depot!!!
Master knows exactly what they're doing. They're making a cheap lock for cheap people that are easily fooled by the claims on the packaging. I'm sure some of the first buyers of these PacLocks will be a MasterLock employee looking to check out the competition and copy them.
A little off topic, but I recently purchased a new model 3650 American Padlock from CLK. It arrived a few weeks later shipped directly from Master Lock. The back has a laser engraved 2002CD SERIES A3650 where the familiar date code would be stamped. I emailed M Lock and asked if they could send me info how to decode this seemingly new date code. First response was "why do you need this, what are you trying to accomplish ?" I explained the locksport hobby and I was only trying to determine the date of manufacture. She was very nice, and found it very amusing that anyone would actually have padlocks as a hobby. She said the date of manufacture was 2002. Somehow I knew she was going to say that. So their latest lock has been sitting on a shelf for the past 17 years.... wow
I know my local Home Depot only has Master Locks. I got ones with the largest shackle that would fit the trailer storage units we have at work. We have like 7 of them. One night a couple months ago, someone at night cut all the locks off. The 2 refer trailers I had doubled the locks on and both were cut off. Luckily those had been recently emptied as we needed to move them out of the way for the huge solar panel going up overhead. There was really nothing of value in the other trailers. I believe they were looking for tools and stuff like that as we were expanding our building with a huge new freezer. So believe they have new locks to lock up trailers which have no exposed shackle? The odds of someone picking is slim and would be slowed way down having to pick all the locks instead of cutting them. Those Master locks are such garbage. So as soon as my Home Depot has them in stock I’ll be buying them and keying them all the same. Small price to pay.
Please bring PACLOCK to Australia👍 Only major competitor in Australia is Lockwood but they don't include the same range and format of PACLOCK, I'm sure the container lock that locks the lever handles would be a big seller✅
Because, any lock that takes LPL a full minute to pick would take a LOT longer for most any criminal who had enough skill to pick it at all, and UNPICKABLE to the vast majority of would be thief's. You're probably new here, watch more of LPL's videos and you'll start to understand that this is indeed a high quality lock.
@@scottelly2 because a minute of LPL time is a gold standard for a 🔒. It is pretty much unbeatable for the most common picking attempt. For your information most of the time it took LPL less than 20 seconds to pick a single lock, with average in the single digits of seconds.
What I learned from watching LPL is not buy an expensive bike. I even have the same lock he has for my moderately priced bike. But I wont buy an expensive bike.
@@wessltov I don't think bowley makes a u-lock, the chain could be cut. Just make sure to always lock up your bike near more expensive ones, and you should be fine with most locks.
Hahaha! He and BB make them look easy. I will point out something you might know. Once I've picked something once, it's almost always easier for me the 2nd and subsequent attempts. Especially remembering where spools are and the order of setting.

@@garrettreven5144 well 30 seconds is pretty good resistance when facing LPL. I had pleasure to pick one of these cores and less expirienced picker will have definetly more trouble to open them plus it's very resistant to low skill attacks like raking.
@@garrettreven5144 considering the security pins, bump protection, radical bitting, and hardened key pins to prevent drilling I'd say they're good enough. the new chain lock looks pretty sweet and the prices aren't too shabby either. I'd say 80% of locks out there are either bypassed, brute forced, or raked/bumped open. For someone to single pin pick these products would take some considerable skill and dedication. Another thing to consider is LPL picked the lock in ideal conditions. He wasn't outside in the cold with the lock bolted to a hard, flat surface at an awkward angle.
@@garrettreven5144 he had a lot of practice off camera and is extremely good at what he does to begin with. He's not representative of most people. Yeah it can be picked but its still relatively good. Any lock can be picked and most can be picked in the same amount of time if you're good at it.
5:34 LPL doesn't really stress it, but I think it's worth mentioning, look at the design simplicity of this look. There aren't a dozen complex pieces that have to be glued/screwed/assembled, cobbled together and made to work because there was already a manufacturing line set up for them from another product. This is what I would call true American engineering, simple and functional so there's less stuff to break, it's cheaper to make, and it outright looks better. Good job PACLOCK, it's always nice to see the underdog start taking the big boy's lunch money.
He has mentioned in previous videos that he picks the locks over and over before putting them on camera. Kinda like a video game speed runner makes countless runs to learn the quirks and patterns before going up on stage.

You could probably counter mill the key pin chambers but I’m sure LPL would still pick it quickly. This is just about as good as it gets for a standard pin tumbler lock.
@@Joe-kb1sm A Master lock may not be a very good lock, but it _is_ a lock, and that _can_ make a difference. It is certainly more secure than a zip tie.
@@user2C47 It's useful to keep honest people honest (deter opportunism in low security applications) or latch a gate to prevent unwanted access by animals or toddlers.
I love that the lock stays attached. Not only does it make locking it easier, it means I can leave it unlocked when I need to get into my van a lot, but to a passerby, it looks really locked up. Then of course at night or when I'm going to be far away, I can actually lock it
I think part of the security to locks is the availability of the keyway: in this case the locks have difficult to reach keyways if mounted properly, and should be tested like that. Bosnianbill made a point about not being able to pick it when "mounted" properly in the last video he made.
Yes, he suggested having the lock a bit shorter so that it was recessed into his tool chest's locking port so a tensioner would be difficult to use. But there's another solution. A raised circular guard around the core. The guard would be part of the lock body and made of the same material. Just big enough that a tensioner won't sit right (you'd need to design a special one to use with this) but not so big that it interferes with key insertion and rotation.
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe having the hasp having a long tube, and the key being longer or mounted to some kind of a rod that can take twisting... But yes I agree protecting the keyhole sounds like a good idea.
@@KaseyWynne Maybe this is a convenient time to ask PacLock to include a cable lanyard option on the puck, just a little loop for a thin chain? Or are you talking about switching to the chain lock?
@@KaseyWynne also, they are loosing it, as in releasing it. Only issue with that interpretation is that *they* are the ones doing it, not someone on their crew.
The one with the chain would be perfect as a motorcycle lock . You don't really need to lock it too anything just put it through the wheel and the swingarm . Love the color and the sound it makes !

Wow! We've seen "challenge"locks with less going on inside. Also, the bidding is great too. Hiding deepest cut behind the shallower ones. I'm interested in this design as a standalone lock and chain.
no, it's not. turn that lock 45 degrees so the keyway is on the side. then put a shroud over that side allows only enough room to fit your hand and the key. that also serves to cover your bolt holes. now you have a good design for a puck lock.
LPL thank you for what you do. Your videos have made me get back interested in locks again. Had it a long time ago, and someone told me that picking a lock would destroy it. So I never did, but watching your videos, it made me see that is not the case. I have been given a few challenge locks that I am working on. Thank you for what you have shown the lock community.

Thanks! I'm moving up to a much bigger work truck here soon. Wanted to look into upgrading the knapheide locks, by adding onto the existing locks. This should do marvelously and I'll be able to do it cheap enough the boss can't say no... Especially when we're talking tens of thousands of dollars of expensive steel.
2:04 im guessing most people that use these have easy access to a welder. I always weld my bracket on under the lock and grind off any identifying information off the lock and bracket, makes you tubeing how to defeat it a lot more difficult.
All of the more recent videos from LPL and BB assume you know the lingo. If you search for their earliest videos, they explain the common terms in detail, and there are many other beginner YT videos that explain them. For these terms, you could look for security pins, spools, or serrated as keywords because those are the types of pins that cause those responses.

I remember as a kid I found a masterlock in my garage so I decided to pick it open with only paperclips and it was surprisingly easy somehow I used a single paperclip as both a rake and a tension tool to get it open really consistently for years I thought it might have just been a fluke but after watching your videos I know its not can you make a video showing yourself Macgyvering a masterlock open with only a paperclip? I forgot to mention I remember it was a disc shaped lock, I don't know the exact model other than it was a masterlock
My work on automobile suspensions have taught me one thing. When you were discussing spring tensions, when you make a spring shorter by removing coils the spring gets stiffer. They springs are probably the same, but if one is shorter it will be stiffer, same spring, different compression.
Yes, but it's being picked by an expert which your average joe is not , under a minute is better than your average master that can be picked in about 5 seconds
That puck seems like a great solution to secure your motorcycle or bikes to a wall as well. With a thick padlock and a chain included, 100 dollars seems like a steal for a quality product like that! I have an Abus wall anchor that cost EUR 60 and then you still need to buy a decent padlock and a chain. You are probably limited to certain chain selection, but I like the idea and execution very much.
I see a lot of negative comments about Paclock and I think that's sad. There's finally a good(I think great would fit in here) product and many people don't like it. It's not like a lot of robbers have pick skills same as LPL, and also they mainly use brute force. Also, a lot of people don't understand that LPL and Bosnian Bill WEREN'T sponsored. They already stated they got them early to review them. In my opinion, these locks are great enough for average customer who is not into picking stuff but want them to be tough enough to hold until the owner comes back or notice something. If I had stuff to lock away, I would choose paclock mainly because how recognizable they are and because I know they are tough(thanks to LPL and Bosnian Bill).
I thought he seemed impressed. I am used to hearing him absolutely rubbish poor locks so we all know he does that if he doesn't like something. I've not heard him being this positive about a lock very often.
@ Paclock Pres. I purchased a couple of trailer locks, some padlocks and a 6 pack of cores thru HD online. I was surprised to see the cores in a plastic sleeve that operates the key retaining lock/unlock functions instead of metal. This has already caused a problem that affects hard turning of the key. When I changed out the first core it didn't seat correctly so a gentle tap was applied. The second one went in smoothly as did all the rest. The core on the first lock didn't work right so I had to replace it and bought another 6 pack of cores to keep everything keyed alike and changed out all the locks. Turns out the problem was where one of the holes in the core was drilled a small but sharp snag didn't get trimmed and this caused the core to bind. Rather than having to buy another 6 pack I decided to file the defect down and noticed the core was not a solid material instead it was plated and now that was comprised. I decided I would have to live with that. One last thing ... on both trailer locks the silicone weather covers were not fasted to the body securely enough and both have fallen off after just 3 months in service. I'm done now but have just one question. Why use plastic for the sleeves and plating instead of brass? BTW, I still have my allegiance with you and appreciate your honesty. Thank you.
Hi David! Thank you for your purchases and your interest! I'm never quite sure how to word "well, you're not quite right" type responses to customers, so I hope I do a good job of being 100% friendly! The black sleeve you mentioned as plastic always makes me sad when I hear that because it's made out of aircraft grade aluminum. Not only that, but we actually do Anodizing Type III which is a hardening process to the aluminum. I promise, no plastic in our locks except, I guess, for the blue "PAC-BAND" cylinder cover on some of our locks! For the core, that's a solid brass core. No die cast zinc, no plastic, no nothing but brass. But to help minimize any galvanic corrosion possibilities, we did a nickel plating on top of the brass. So when you filed part of it down, you should have seen the brass get exposed. That's not really a problem to have a small section unplated... the plating is just extra insurance so to speak. I realize that sometimes customers think that a shiny, silvery colored metal part is expected to be steel. All good quality cylinders/cores are made out of brass... some cores from China will be ABS (ug.). Often you'll see die-cast zinc cores... again, not great because they can be easily melted. But the cores in our UCS line, like the rest of our 6-pin rekeyable PACLOCKs, are out of brass. With all of that said, the customer is always right at PACLOCK. So I hope what I wrote makes sense and is reasonable. Even still, I apologize for the confusion and the troubles you had!!! We want everything to always be 100%... that's our goal. If you have the time and can shoot a quick picture of the spot you mentioned you had to grind down on the cylinder, I'd really appreciate getting my eyes on it. All my contact info is up on our website or you can DM me! In terms of the "PAC-BAND" (the blue cylinder cover), I'm sorry to hear that those little guys have fallen off already. Definitely shoot me an email with your contact info, we deliberately made those field replaceable for lots of reasons. They are somewhat easy to just pull off... but any other method (like what Master does with hard plastic) just doesn't work. We can get you some replacements without a big deal! Ever since getting into LPL and Bill's channels, and the locksport community, I've been learning so much about locks and security, and been searching for better padlocks, and now, clearly have found a great product for the price range I'm interested in, but amazingly, it's not really available in Canada (in retail). I hope this changes soon, we are really in need of some superior locks up here.

Jon, bypassing our UCS™ locks using this method won't work. The back of our cylinders marries up with a slotted driver and restricts the rotation of the actuator without the core being turned- which means the shear line needs to be made. In our non-UCS cylinders, we also fixed this issue that American locks had by changing the position of the half-moon on the back of the cylinder. Now there is no free space to rotate the actuator without creating the shear line.
Is there enough room or play in the chain lock to get a cutoff wheel in between the halves when locked? It looks like the locking mechanism only interacts with one of the prongs, so if that one prong could be cut the chain could be removed. Another point of attack could be either of the studs that pass through the chain, but that would require two cuts and an awkward positioning of the grinder between the chain and the surface to which the lock was mounted for the second cut.
Went to my local homie depot this morning. Checked out the lock area and just a wall of crap! No Paclocks there yet. Hopefully they'll be there soon. I had to purchase a padlock recently and was forced to buy a master. Also hopefully HD will make an effort to keep these in stock and well displayed. I know this is an exclusive product for them, but exclusively is an issue for us consumers IF HD doesn't keep them in stock.
Having worked for HD for some time in the past, they usually roll out products in stages testing for around 6 months in certain stores, then expanding to a region, after 4 months or so they may then roll out to most stores. Keep in mind many smaller stores never get the full product offering as well. Simply not enough space or predicted to sell poorly. It sucks for the hype but it makes business sense.
Hunter Bowie My HD is a smaller one. I’ll maybe check a larger one near me and see if they have it. I suspect with an exclusive product, the rollout maybe quicker. Maybe not though.
I don't understand what the point is of having a strong steel core and a thick chain if the plug is the typical weak 6-pin that you can open with a standard tension wrench and hook. I might be missing something or I'm too stupid to understand, but to me this seems like taking two pieces of indestructible vibranium and tying them up together with a rope.
I'd wish there was something like the chain lock but made for van doors instead of ladders no one uses chains anymore there are specific locks designed for that seems like kinda of a waste of a good design

the other locks that bosnian bill showed has the core with the keyway vertically so picking is more difficult. if you are going to get a longer chain make sure to use a very good chain as the weakest link would be the chain if you nd up getting a cheap chain
The most likely attack is going to be a big hammer or a crowbar to rip the thing from the thin sheet metal of the vehicle door. Any greater security in the core itself would be kinda pointless.
Try picking one when installed! I imagine that reaching overhead to that roof rack installation would interrupt the lockpicker's style and make it more difficult. Unsure if the door-mounted lock would be in a difficult position or not. Since the lock is fixed, why don't they have some plates or blocks to make it more difficult to get hands in there to pick but yet still easy to insert and turn a key?
Bowleys are unpickable. Also:The Italian 3-prong house-locks took him like 4 minutes of picking with 2 specialty tools and another tool he rarely uses.

Thanks! We have lots of options on Amazon right now too... you can key alike a variety of products and pick the quantities of each that you need ~ just pick the same key number for all of them and there you go!

I’ll be buying this for my fleet of fans. But also I would to see you one day attempt to pick a lock while in in actual use because I bet the weird angle of it mount so low on a fan or up high on a ladder would make picking a lot harder.
First off I was a bit disappointed in my local Home Depot today. After visiting the Paclock website I found a local store in the Phoenix area that was listed as being one of the Home Depots that was carrying Paclock products. The shelf was nothing but Masterlock products and the friendly employee nearby had no idea what I was talking about when I inquired about Paclock products. I even showed him the website that listed the store. I'll have to check back later. Second (and my real question), is there an orientation of a lock that makes it harder to pick? I always practice with a lock in my hand or vice and have significantly more problems when I am picking something more practical like a lock on a fence or locker. Can you discuss the importance (if there is any) in setting up a lock that best guards against access for easy picking?

Yes, but hopefully you can see it more as well made products that are pretty darn good because a good amount of thought and quality manufacturing were behind them.
@MasZakrY To be fair, he's said before that just because *he* can pick a lock doesn't make it a bad lock. The vast majority of criminals are gonna take a pair of bolt cutters or a big hammer to the chain or shackles because lockpicking takes quite a lot of practice. Not to mention I'm sure LPL's pick time would be a lot longer if he was trying to pick this thing while it's on top of a van at some wonky angle.
4:19 is the moment he starts picking 4:58 is the moment the lock opens up. That's 38ish seconds. So this lock isn't terrible for the price it's actually quite good. Now we're going to compare it to other locks that cost twice or three times as much it's not that good but that's because those locks cost twice or three times as much
Don't worry, both LPL and BB practice and take practice shoots before the video itself, so they get to know the lock well & get to pick it fast. If it was first take, LPL would have a lot more trouble (1-2min?) and the average criminal would not even be able to get it open in under 30. As for the experienced pickers, let's just say that you wouldn't have been able to keep your stuff safe either way.
Can either of the puck locks be used as a bike lock??? Like can you remove the puck lock you picked from the plate or buy it separately and without the chain so we can use existing chains or buy ones whatever length we need??

Right there with you. These things are big and heavy, and we wanted the consumer to be able to touch and feel. So we didn't have a lot of options that can hold up to being dropped a couple of times. As we grow and people get to know our products better, we'll find a way to cut things down just because it won't be as critical for us to be so "showy" with our packaging.

I don't really get the additional bolt hole under the lock. It still seems like you can grind the three boltheads of on the right side and free that side from the door.
Yes, you can grind the right side, but the left side is still locked on and the puck is holding them together. So you won't be able to open the door...
In response to the previous vid, PacLock claim not, and as I observed in comments there, the money he could get from sponsorship isn't worth the time it would take him as a lawyer to negotiate such a deal.
i tried using these locks for work the core rusts over time and gets dust/dirt in them and the keys are so cheaply made they bend and snap inside the locks

Boy you can tell that you are truly not a Locksmith, with employees and a retail store! You mentioned Home Depot enough! I own a full service Locksmith Company and also use, and sell Pac Lock products as I am sure a lot of other locksmiths do as well. Locksmiths were around selling Pac Lock long before Home Depot! And these products have been available at your local locksmith for a while now! If you are a lawyer? Is it true that 90% of a lawyer's work can be performed by a paralegal or the Legal-Hut down at the mall? For 1/10th of the cost of a lawyer? But seriously, Kudos to you, you do amaze with your skills and technique, I have been picking for 45 years, and admittedly would have difficulty with some of the oddball and high security cylinders you open! And Kudos to Pac Lock for making a great product and breaking into the Amazon and Home Depot national marketplaces, Pop's and son deserve everything they get outa the business, The have worked hard at it for a LONG TIME!

Proves we're not perfect, just that we're a hard working company that sometimes misses things! We realized about a week ago that our first batches went out without the pucks already attached to the hasps as they should have been (meaning that the screws would be included). A lot has gone into this entire product line, and that detail was missed on our assembly/packaging line. So, if any of you end up getting one of these and it doesn't have the screws, we'll be happy to mail some out to you (just give us a call). They are 1/4"-20 x 1/2" flat head stainless steel screws and you can pick them up just about anywhere.
The packaging is actually made from aluminum and not steel. The powder coating on it obviously gives it a steel look and feel, but it's the weight of the product that really makes it feel like steel. We know our packaging is a bit over the top right now, but put yourselves in our shoes. We need to be able to grab the attention of a Pro customer as they're walking down the aisle and, hopefully, grab it enough for them to want to learn more about the product. These pucks and hasps are heavy and silly cardboard packaging just can't hang. So bear with us for a while... once everyone is up to speed on PACLOCK, then we'll find a way to cut down on the packaging. We figured with aluminum, at the very least you can put it into your recycling bin (there should be a sticker on the back of the packaging mentioning that it's aluminum and recyclable).

I'd love to see a lock designed for roll up garage doors that have the slide "locks" (google "Mini Warehouse Lock Flat Door" for the style I'm talking about). My shed has one of those style locks, and I would rather have something more secure than a POS "master" lock.

Master knows exactly what they're doing. They're making a cheap lock for cheap people that are easily fooled by the claims on the packaging. I'm sure some of the first buyers of these PacLocks will be a MasterLock employee looking to check out the competition and copy them.
A little off topic, but I recently purchased a new model 3650 American Padlock from CLK. It arrived a few weeks later shipped directly from Master Lock. The back has a laser engraved 2002CD SERIES A3650 where the familiar date code would be stamped. I emailed M Lock and asked if they could send me info how to decode this seemingly new date code. First response was "why do you need this, what are you trying to accomplish ?" I explained the locksport hobby and I was only trying to determine the date of manufacture. She was very nice, and found it very amusing that anyone would actually have padlocks as a hobby. She said the date of manufacture was 2002. Somehow I knew she was going to say that.
So their latest lock has been sitting on a shelf for the past 17 years.... wow
I know my local Home Depot only has Master Locks. I got ones with the largest shackle that would fit the trailer storage units we have at work. We have like 7 of them. One night a couple months ago, someone at night cut all the locks off. The 2 refer trailers I had doubled the locks on and both were cut off. Luckily those had been recently emptied as we needed to move them out of the way for the huge solar panel going up overhead. There was really nothing of value in the other trailers. I believe they were looking for tools and stuff like that as we were expanding our building with a huge new freezer.
So believe they have new locks to lock up trailers which have no exposed shackle? The odds of someone picking is slim and would be slowed way down having to pick all the locks instead of cutting them. Those Master locks are such garbage. So as soon as my Home Depot has them in stock I’ll be buying them and keying them all the same. Small price to pay.

Because, any lock that takes LPL a full minute to pick would take a LOT longer for most any criminal who had enough skill to pick it at all, and UNPICKABLE to the vast majority of would be thief's.
You're probably new here, watch more of LPL's videos and you'll start to understand that this is indeed a high quality lock.

For your information most of the time it took LPL less than 20 seconds to pick a single lock, with average in the single digits of seconds.

It's an old trick to hide your bike under a cheap opaque rain cover, thieves can't be bothered to look underneath. They will steal the one next to it.
What I learned from watching LPL is not buy an expensive bike. I even have the same lock he has for my moderately priced bike. But I wont buy an expensive bike.

@@wessltov I don't think bowley makes a u-lock, the chain could be cut. Just make sure to always lock up your bike near more expensive ones, and you should be fine with most locks.

The thing is, LPL is so good that he makes nearly every lock appear easy to pick open. Most petty thefts use brute force, not picking.
Hahaha! He and BB make them look easy. I will point out something you might know. Once I've picked something once, it's almost always easier for me the 2nd and subsequent attempts. Especially remembering where spools are and the order of setting.

@@garrettreven5144 well 30 seconds is pretty good resistance when facing LPL. I had pleasure to pick one of these cores and less expirienced picker will have definetly more trouble to open them plus it's very resistant to low skill attacks like raking.
@@garrettreven5144 considering the security pins, bump protection, radical bitting, and hardened key pins to prevent drilling I'd say they're good enough. the new chain lock looks pretty sweet and the prices aren't too shabby either. I'd say 80% of locks out there are either bypassed, brute forced, or raked/bumped open. For someone to single pin pick these products would take some considerable skill and dedication. Another thing to consider is LPL picked the lock in ideal conditions. He wasn't outside in the cold with the lock bolted to a hard, flat surface at an awkward angle.
@@garrettreven5144 he had a lot of practice off camera and is extremely good at what he does to begin with. He's not representative of most people. Yeah it can be picked but its still relatively good. Any lock can be picked and most can be picked in the same amount of time if you're good at it.

5:34 LPL doesn't really stress it, but I think it's worth mentioning, look at the design simplicity of this look. There aren't a dozen complex pieces that have to be glued/screwed/assembled, cobbled together and made to work because there was already a manufacturing line set up for them from another product. This is what I would call true American engineering, simple and functional so there's less stuff to break, it's cheaper to make, and it outright looks better. Good job PACLOCK, it's always nice to see the underdog start taking the big boy's lunch money.

You could probably counter mill the key pin chambers but I’m sure LPL would still pick it quickly. This is just about as good as it gets for a standard pin tumbler lock.

I love that the lock stays attached. Not only does it make locking it easier, it means I can leave it unlocked when I need to get into my van a lot, but to a passerby, it looks really locked up. Then of course at night or when I'm going to be far away, I can actually lock it

None of these lock companies are high technology companies. They can't be. Why? Angle Grinder. Physics works, people.
I think part of the security to locks is the availability of the keyway: in this case the locks have difficult to reach keyways if mounted properly, and should be tested like that. Bosnianbill made a point about not being able to pick it when "mounted" properly in the last video he made.

Yes, he suggested having the lock a bit shorter so that it was recessed into his tool chest's locking port so a tensioner would be difficult to use.
But there's another solution. A raised circular guard around the core. The guard would be part of the lock body and made of the same material. Just big enough that a tensioner won't sit right (you'd need to design a special one to use with this) but not so big that it interferes with key insertion and rotation.
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe having the hasp having a long tube, and the key being longer or mounted to some kind of a rod that can take twisting... But yes I agree protecting the keyhole sounds like a good idea.

The one with the chain would be perfect as a motorcycle lock . You don't really need to lock it too anything just put it through the wheel and the swingarm . Love the color and the sound it makes !

no, it's not. turn that lock 45 degrees so the keyway is on the side. then put a shroud over that side allows only enough room to fit your hand and the key. that also serves to cover your bolt holes.
now you have a good design for a puck lock.
LPL thank you for what you do. Your videos have made me get back interested in locks again. Had it a long time ago, and someone told me that picking a lock would destroy it. So I never did, but watching your videos, it made me see that is not the case. I have been given a few challenge locks that I am working on. Thank you for what you have shown the lock community.

Thanks! I'm moving up to a much bigger work truck here soon. Wanted to look into upgrading the knapheide locks, by adding onto the existing locks. This should do marvelously and I'll be able to do it cheap enough the boss can't say no... Especially when we're talking tens of thousands of dollars of expensive steel.
The security of these will depend on resistance to Ramsets and angle grinders, not how fast LPL can pick them.

2:04 im guessing most people that use these have easy access to a welder. I always weld my bracket on under the lock and grind off any identifying information off the lock and bracket, makes you tubeing how to defeat it a lot more difficult.

All of the more recent videos from LPL and BB assume you know the lingo. If you search for their earliest videos, they explain the common terms in detail, and there are many other beginner YT videos that explain them. For these terms, you could look for security pins, spools, or serrated as keywords because those are the types of pins that cause those responses.

My work on automobile suspensions have taught me one thing. When you were discussing spring tensions, when you make a spring shorter by removing coils the spring gets stiffer. They springs are probably the same, but if one is shorter it will be stiffer, same spring, different compression.

That puck seems like a great solution to secure your motorcycle or bikes to a wall as well. With a thick padlock and a chain included, 100 dollars seems like a steal for a quality product like that! I have an Abus wall anchor that cost EUR 60 and then you still need to buy a decent padlock and a chain.
You are probably limited to certain chain selection, but I like the idea and execution very much.

I see a lot of negative comments about Paclock and I think that's sad. There's finally a good(I think great would fit in here) product and many people don't like it. It's not like a lot of robbers have pick skills same as LPL, and also they mainly use brute force. Also, a lot of people don't understand that LPL and Bosnian Bill WEREN'T sponsored. They already stated they got them early to review them. In my opinion, these locks are great enough for average customer who is not into picking stuff but want them to be tough enough to hold until the owner comes back or notice something. If I had stuff to lock away, I would choose paclock mainly because how recognizable they are and because I know they are tough(thanks to LPL and Bosnian Bill).

@ Paclock Pres. I purchased a couple of trailer locks, some padlocks and a 6 pack of cores thru HD online. I was surprised to see the cores in a plastic sleeve that operates the key retaining lock/unlock functions instead of metal. This has already caused a problem that affects hard turning of the key. When I changed out the first core it didn't seat correctly so a gentle tap was applied. The second one went in smoothly as did all the rest. The core on the first lock didn't work right so I had to replace it and bought another 6 pack of cores to keep everything keyed alike and changed out all the locks. Turns out the problem was where one of the holes in the core was drilled a small but sharp snag didn't get
trimmed and this caused the core to bind. Rather than having to buy another 6 pack I decided to file the defect down and noticed the core was not a solid material instead it was plated and now that was comprised. I decided I would have to live with that. One last thing ... on both trailer locks the silicone weather covers were not fasted to the body securely enough and both have fallen off after just 3 months in service. I'm done now but have just one question. Why use plastic for the sleeves and plating instead of brass? BTW, I still have my allegiance with you and appreciate your honesty. Thank you.
Hi David! Thank you for your purchases and your interest! I'm never quite sure how to word "well, you're not quite right" type responses to customers, so I hope I do a good job of being 100% friendly! The black sleeve you mentioned as plastic always makes me sad when I hear that because it's made out of aircraft grade aluminum. Not only that, but we actually do Anodizing Type III which is a hardening process to the aluminum. I promise, no plastic in our locks except, I guess, for the blue "PAC-BAND" cylinder cover on some of our locks!
For the core, that's a solid brass core. No die cast zinc, no plastic, no nothing but brass. But to help minimize any galvanic corrosion possibilities, we did a nickel plating on top of the brass. So when you filed part of it down, you should have seen the brass get exposed. That's not really a problem to have a small section unplated... the plating is just extra insurance so to speak.
I realize that sometimes customers think that a shiny, silvery colored metal part is expected to be steel. All good quality cylinders/cores are made out of brass... some cores from China will be ABS (ug.). Often you'll see die-cast zinc cores... again, not great because they can be easily melted. But the cores in our UCS line, like the rest of our 6-pin rekeyable PACLOCKs, are out of brass.
With all of that said, the customer is always right at PACLOCK. So I hope what I wrote makes sense and is reasonable. Even still, I apologize for the confusion and the troubles you had!!! We want everything to always be 100%... that's our goal. If you have the time and can shoot a quick picture of the spot you mentioned you had to grind down on the cylinder, I'd really appreciate getting my eyes on it. All my contact info is up on our website or you can DM me!
In terms of the "PAC-BAND" (the blue cylinder cover), I'm sorry to hear that those little guys have fallen off already. Definitely shoot me an email with your contact info, we deliberately made those field replaceable for lots of reasons. They are somewhat easy to just pull off... but any other method (like what Master does with hard plastic) just doesn't work. We can get you some replacements without a big deal!

LPL, 40 sec, but you had to do it twice due to the spools, serrated pins and such. Seems a nice design to me.
Ever since getting into LPL and Bill's channels, and the locksport community, I've been learning so much about locks and security, and been searching for better padlocks, and now, clearly have found a great product for the price range I'm interested in, but amazingly, it's not really available in Canada (in retail).
I hope this changes soon, we are really in need of some superior locks up here.

Actually, I think Home Depot tends to keep machine screws and padlocks in the exact same aisle.
It looks like you could slide a bypass pick through the open back key way and turn open the lock. Kind of like American lock. Is it possible?
Jon, bypassing our UCS™ locks using this method won't work. The back of our cylinders marries up with a slotted driver and restricts the rotation of the actuator without the core being turned- which means the shear line needs to be made. In our non-UCS cylinders, we also fixed this issue that American locks had by changing the position of the half-moon on the back of the cylinder. Now there is no free space to rotate the actuator without creating the shear line.
Can you pick this as if it was on a van? You'd never get your thumb behind it in reality.
Is there enough room or play in the chain lock to get a cutoff wheel in between the halves when locked? It looks like the locking mechanism only interacts with one of the prongs, so if that one prong could be cut the chain could be removed. Another point of attack could be either of the studs that pass through the chain, but that would require two cuts and an awkward positioning of the grinder between the chain and the surface to which the lock was mounted for the second cut.
Went to my local homie depot this morning. Checked out the lock area and just a wall of crap! No Paclocks there yet. Hopefully they'll be there soon. I had to purchase a padlock recently and was forced to buy a master.
Also hopefully HD will make an effort to keep these in stock and well displayed. I know this is an exclusive product for them, but exclusively is an issue for us consumers IF HD doesn't keep them in stock.
Been reading paclocks comments. They are starting mostly in the west coast for now. I hope they spread fast enough
Having worked for HD for some time in the past, they usually roll out products in stages testing for around 6 months in certain stores, then expanding to a region, after 4 months or so they may then roll out to most stores. Keep in mind many smaller stores never get the full product offering as well. Simply not enough space or predicted to sell poorly. It sucks for the hype but it makes business sense.
Hunter Bowie My HD is a smaller one. I’ll maybe check a larger one near me and see if they have it. I suspect with an exclusive product, the rollout maybe quicker. Maybe not though.
I don't understand what the point is of having a strong steel core and a thick chain if the plug is the typical weak 6-pin that you can open with a standard tension wrench and hook. I might be missing something or I'm too stupid to understand, but to me this seems like taking two pieces of indestructible vibranium and tying them up together with a rope.

the other locks that bosnian bill showed has the core with the keyway vertically so picking is more difficult.
if you are going to get a longer chain make sure to use a very good chain as the weakest link would be the chain if you nd up getting a cheap chain
Definitely well made, but still "fairly" easy to pick.
I wouldn't say easy to pick. Lpl just makes any commercial lock look like a D shackle in terms of security.
The most likely attack is going to be a big hammer or a crowbar to rip the thing from the thin sheet metal of the vehicle door. Any greater security in the core itself would be kinda pointless.

I think that the fact that the keyhole is pointing to the ground which make lock picking be more difficult cause of the angle

LPL actually sounds a little exited.
Try picking one when installed! I imagine that reaching overhead to that roof rack installation would interrupt the lockpicker's style and make it more difficult. Unsure if the door-mounted lock would be in a difficult position or not. Since the lock is fixed, why don't they have some plates or blocks to make it more difficult to get hands in there to pick but yet still easy to insert and turn a key?

i would argue that it technically still is protecting your stuff.
pick it up by the chain and flail it on them, gods it hurts just by thinking about how hard a hit with that can be.
Take off 1 sock, drop it in there and commence beating your enemies as needed

Bowleys are unpickable. Also:The Italian 3-prong house-locks took him like 4 minutes of picking with 2 specialty tools and another tool he rarely uses.
The Italian lock is the "Iseo Perfecta", check out that video he's seriously struggling.

Thanks! We have lots of options on Amazon right now too... you can key alike a variety of products and pick the quantities of each that you need ~ just pick the same key number for all of them and there you go!

I’ll be buying this for my fleet of fans. But also I would to see you one day attempt to pick a lock while in in actual use because I bet the weird angle of it mount so low on a fan or up high on a ladder would make picking a lot harder.

That first lock and hasp would work well on a cargo trailer.
First off I was a bit disappointed in my local Home Depot today. After visiting the Paclock website I found a local store in the Phoenix area that was listed as being one of the Home Depots that was carrying Paclock products. The shelf was nothing but Masterlock products and the friendly employee nearby had no idea what I was talking about when I inquired about Paclock products. I even showed him the website that listed the store. I'll have to check back later.
Second (and my real question), is there an orientation of a lock that makes it harder to pick? I always practice with a lock in my hand or vice and have significantly more problems when I am picking something more practical like a lock on a fence or locker. Can you discuss the importance (if there is any) in setting up a lock that best guards against access for easy picking?

Yes, but hopefully you can see it more as well made products that are pretty darn good because a good amount of thought and quality manufacturing were behind them.

@MasZakrY To be fair, he's said before that just because *he* can pick a lock doesn't make it a bad lock. The vast majority of criminals are gonna take a pair of bolt cutters or a big hammer to the chain or shackles because lockpicking takes quite a lot of practice. Not to mention I'm sure LPL's pick time would be a lot longer if he was trying to pick this thing while it's on top of a van at some wonky angle.
4:19 is the moment he starts picking 4:58 is the moment the lock opens up. That's 38ish seconds. So this lock isn't terrible for the price it's actually quite good. Now we're going to compare it to other locks that cost twice or three times as much it's not that good but that's because those locks cost twice or three times as much

Don't worry, both LPL and BB practice and take practice shoots before the video itself, so they get to know the lock well & get to pick it fast. If it was first take, LPL would have a lot more trouble (1-2min?) and the average criminal would not even be able to get it open in under 30. As for the experienced pickers, let's just say that you wouldn't have been able to keep your stuff safe either way.
Can either of the puck locks be used as a bike lock??? Like can you remove the puck lock you picked from the plate or buy it separately and without the chain so we can use existing chains or buy ones whatever length we need??

Steel packaging is a hell of a lot of waste. Id rather the money was put into the product..
Right there with you. These things are big and heavy, and we wanted the consumer to be able to touch and feel. So we didn't have a lot of options that can hold up to being dropped a couple of times. As we grow and people get to know our products better, we'll find a way to cut things down just because it won't be as critical for us to be so "showy" with our packaging.

I don't really get the additional bolt hole under the lock. It still seems like you can grind the three boltheads of on the right side and free that side from the door.
Yes, you can grind the right side, but the left side is still locked on and the puck is holding them together. So you won't be able to open the door...

i tried using these locks for work the core rusts over time and gets dust/dirt in them and the keys are so cheaply made they bend and snap inside the locks

Boy you can tell that you are truly not a Locksmith, with employees and a retail store! You mentioned Home Depot enough! I own a full service Locksmith Company and also use, and sell Pac Lock products as I am sure a lot of other locksmiths do as well. Locksmiths were around selling Pac Lock long before Home Depot! And these products have been available at your local locksmith for a while now! If you are a lawyer? Is it true that 90% of a lawyer's work can be performed by a paralegal or the Legal-Hut down at the mall? For 1/10th of the cost of a lawyer? But seriously, Kudos to you, you do amaze with your skills and technique, I have been picking for 45 years, and admittedly would have difficulty with some of the oddball and high security cylinders you open! And Kudos to Pac Lock for making a great product and breaking into the Amazon and Home Depot national marketplaces, Pop's and son deserve everything they get outa the business, The have worked hard at it for a LONG TIME!
