- We're kicking things off with Paul's first & second guitar builds. That's right. We get up close and personal with #1 and #2; the guitars that started it all. Make sure you watch to the end for a nice piece of ear candy provided by a fan favorite musician.
And be sure to check out our blog:

What do you want to see in the next episode of #fromthearchives?
I stood next to you, Paul in the lift of our hotel at Summer NAMM this year. I wanted to say hi, and thank you for the inspiration, but you looked beat, and like a private person who was done for the day, so I didn't bug you. So here's my thank you now, for the inspiration to be a better musician and custodian of guitar lore. This piece was a real treat and I look forward to more.
The coolest thing!! We don’t have any videos of Leo fender or Gibson talking about and showing off their first guitars. We get to see that with Paul. Thanks man!
Number 2 is perfect. Y’all need to make a tribute model to that one.
He’s already been sued by Gibson once… 😅
I loved working at PRS! It's really hard getting work done with guitars this beautiful in front of you all of the time. We used to get private shows like this on a regular years ago. I met so many great people/ musicians there. I was very fortunate to have been a part of the greatest guitar manufacturer in the world!
Love you Paul, you will go down in History as one if not the greatest Electric Guitar Builders. Thank you for absolutely everything, for your love, your heartfelt passion and for giving us the opportunity of playing these amazing instruments. Cheers Horst Keller
MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS PLEASE!!!!!
They'll be more. Don't you Worry.
what a fantastic idea for a video series! can't wait for the next!
Holy crap the tone on those.
Right?!
I thought it was incredible too!👍😎🎸🎶
I'm sure the amplification didn't hurt 😉 but yes, you can hear the love that went into them.... amazing.
PRS pickups are insanely toneful. They've got it all down.
Idk why but every single time i watch this kind of videos i just feel so proud to own a prs
Likewise. These videos are amazing. What a treat
Wow, good stuff. Makes you wonder what is in all those other cases!
Only time will tell.
I could camp out in that room and look all day and night!👍😎🎸🎶
Magic wooden magic
The tone on no.2 is great
Paul I'm so happy to see this! Guys please do continue the series I'm excitedly waiting to hear the story of Paul's first Dragon that he had when we first met in '84.
Gary the machinist.
I love that your guitar experience included your teacher because I had a similar situation. My wood shop teacher gave me a credit for building mine in class, I still use that guitar to this day
That jam out was fucking awesome. Loved it. The guitars sound killer.
Those early unadorned models sounded amazing. Whatever that p90 pickup was, it was fantastic. Would be neat to see some simple, rustic PRS special runs without the carved tops and inlays.
He should sell them for 500
This kind of videos from PRS are so inspiring! PRS should definitely upload some more of these!!!
Much love from Barcelona!
Paul, thank you for continuing to inspire us musicians, luthiers, repairmen and guitar lovers worldwide. You are magic, you are art, but most of all a downright awesome person.
I love these "From The Archive" videos, especially this one. I enjoy knowing as much as possible about how and why my beautiful 1991 Custom 24 came into this world. I've owned her for well over 30 years now, having bought her brand-spanking-new at Steve's Music in Ottawa, Ontario on January 20, 1992. In all those long years, the only things I've ever replaced have been strings and the knobs, both of which cracked within the first three or four years.
I did change to a different brand and gauge because I prefer the brighter high end of stainless steel-wound strings over nickel-wound strings. I also opted for a slightly beefier bottom end by switching from the 9-42 she came with to 9-46 instead. I just love the added "crunch" of a beefier bottom end.😉
Anyway, thanks for sharing the early origins of the guitars we love so much. You build the sweetest guitars!
Paul Reed Smith is such a cool guy. I love how much pride he has in his instruments, and how he really loves making them. You can tell because he doesn't mind mentioning other companies. "The leading brand." Instead he says what it is; a Les Paul Junior.
you should do "story telling with Paul" on each of the guitars in that room!!!!
Thanks for this, Paul. Could you do a future piece on the EG bolt on series? I have a 1993 EG-4 that I purchased at Sam Ash. I think I paid around $800 for it. I gave it to my grandson, who showed some interest in learning guitar, and I thought he would return it in a few weeks. No chance. It inspired him to become an accomplished guitarist, and prompted him to recently purchase a Mcarty Single-Cut, which meant that the EG-4 was returned to me! In the interim, I had purchased a Santana SE, which is an amazing instrument in its own right. Anyway, we're a family that's grateful for your craftsmanship and dedication to inspiring guitarists worldwide. We look forward to a factory tour this summer!
I have lived in MD since I was 16. I am a bassist turned guitarist but, still a bassist. I learned of PRS the way we all did and I remember the tales of him hanging out at the artist's entrance to the Cap Center trying to meet guitarists and get them to play his guitar, I never knew St. Holmes was the guy to play it. I always too it to be Santana as he has the most history there.
I, of course, have a PRS now but would love to trade it for a PRS bass as I am not taken by my 1999 Swamp Ash Special.
St Mary's college was an extremely liberal arts college down the road from me. Why no Ark and Dove themed guitars, Paul?
I love seeing this kind of history and where great names started. I love my PRS.
I had built a bass body out of Brazilian Rosewood, but was trying to build a neck,, and someone told me about Paul on West st.Annapolis, which i travelled to from Balto. He showed me some fundamentals and then showed me the Santana guitar he was working on...Wow...it hadnt been strung yet...1975 or 76...He is a force in the nature of Guitars...A great guy...
Paul you're the best and thank you for sharing your lovely historical moments with all of us.
I would love to see more videos from the archives. It's great to see guitars from the early days of PRS.
That was just awesome. Thank you!
This is an awesome video! I would love to see more of these.
Man! Those guitars sound so great! Home run for the first couple of builds. So awesome!
Wow! I love those old guitars! I haven't got goosebumps from music lately, but I just did! That sounded awesome!👍😎🎸🎶
This archive subject is a fantastic idea. Keep pushing in !
this is awesome! super fascinating background from the man himself!
I am the proud owner of a PRS custom bought new in 1992. almost 30 years old and sounds and plays even better today than when I bought it. IMO, the best electric guitars made. Thanks Paul!
This is amazing! More videos like this. You guys are the best!
Thanks for watching, Taylor.
Just want to say I love your guitars. I own several and they are amazing! I own fenders also but PRS are the best of all worlds. True works of art!
Thanks for the love, Archie!
I'm so glad Paul built these , otherwise I wouldn't be playing my beautiful PRS now 👍
Excellent series!!!!!! Keep them coming!
PRS makes the finest guitars on the planet. Period. There is NO competition. They also make the finest stock pickups of any manufacturer out there. And I'm crazy about the Narrowfields. Absolute brilliance in design.
My God...the tone on both of the originals #1 and #2. Just killer. Sweet and biting all at the same time.
Wonderful! So cool to see where it started and hear the stories about where the guitars have been.
Thanks for watching. It is truly a treat!
That LP Junior is very awesome.
That was terrific, loved the bass and the song.
Derek St Holmes! criminally underrated rock n roll vocalist, I remember seeing footage of him playing that double cut with Nugent, very cool.
Can’t wait to see more!
Very cool feature! And the tones on both!! Stellar! ⚜️☮️❤️🎶
I love hearing how they sound at the end
Great video. Really enjoyed the music at the end.
So nice to see Marc on video. Huge fan here of his work photographing these gorgeous guitars.
He is quite a talented guy. We'll pass on the kind words, Marcello! Thanks for watching.
That second model with the modern PRS head stock should be a new S2 guitar...please.
Soo cool Paul!! You have come a long way your guitars are amazing!! Archives do kinda look like a junior or melody maker type style very cool. Sounds great too. Would love to see more of them.
Hey Paul, I actually know somebody who lives in Sussex County Delaware but is from bowie Maryland who pulled a near complete guitar out of your dumpster many years ago and he actually put that thing back together and still has it.
This is GOLD!
We need more of these! A weekly one would be amazing
As of right now, we do not have the time to film one of these every week and still bring you product demos, artist interviews, and all of the other content found on this channel. But, we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm! As long as you keep watching, we'll keep filming! Thanks, DiegoVT91!
What a fantastic video! Hope you guys have one of the original multifoils in the archive! 🙌
Yes!! Pretty pretty please, more of these!!!
This is just awesome! Keep these up..
Will do.
Paul will go down as the worlds greatest guitar maker. Thanks for inspiring. Still have my very first PRS. 22 years man.
I'm looking forward to in the future seeing a video like this about the first flying v that Paul built.
very very cool video.. the guitars sound great at the end as well. Inspirational stuff.
The slide tone on #1 tho, that's something truly exceptional
Nice PRS! Glad to see some new content from you guys. There is so much you guys can do that we would all eat up. Cheers.
Oh and you should do some single pickup double cut guitars! I want one but won't buy the other guys
Jeeeeeez! The tone on that double-cut! Like a soft rain with an exclamation point, mayn. Big things were sure to follow a piece that sounds like that.
Nice videos! Keep them coming.
Wonderful content. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely fantastic tone on those bad boys!
Love this!
wow the sound !
I love the inlays
There should be a PRS museum with these on display and the back story!
There is! If you schedule a factory tour at our Maryland facility you can come and see it yourself. Thanks for watching, Steve!
Interesting to see all these guitars are being bought back. Only a few years ago Paul let a bunch of the more recent prototype guitars out for sale. I picked up the PRS Modern Eagle II prototype in faded blue jean that was used in all the press releases and promo shots. I hope to see more videos like this.
Wow, sweet tones
Just Awesome!!!!
So Awesome
This is so cool!
Wow the Second...is beautiful...
Bass player picture woooo Noel Redding and that guitar & slide tone , man ....
The tone on that DoubleCut #2 is huge and so well balanced across all freq ranges.
I want one. As a fan of one pickup juniors, I want a PRS junior :)
This was awesome! Thanks : )
Thanks for watching!
That Bass Guitar just looks clean!
I would love to see and hear the history in the rest of those cases.
Well, make sure you tune in for the next episode!
You know what we need?
SE Single Bridge P90 Mira!!!
I would buy the bejeezus out of that guitar.
And please, put the strap pin behind the neck, so the thing doesn't neck-dive.
Hmmm...
Awesome!
I would love to have one like the singlecut. I bet that guitar sounds amazing.
I started playing guitar in 1994. Back then PRS was just a boutique company that made the EVH signature to me.
MY DAMN what a guitar player!
Awesome vid! This was really cool to see and hear. I've only been a PRS player for about a year. I grabbed an S2 Standard 24 off the rack. Two chords latter I said, "This is going home with me today". The feel and tone were and still are amazing. Please do an S2 245 with a chunky neck. I have an SE 245 that I love as well. But, an S2 version would be awesome!!
Very cool, with all the split, tap, out-of-phase, push-pull shenanigans there are WAY to little single P90 guitars out there. They just sound so good and actually are pretty versatile. I’m definitely getting me an SE One.
You really should do a single-P90 guitar in the S2 range.
The used PRS SE One market is boomin' thanks to this comment section... Hmmm, maybe we should consider an S2 Singlecut with a single dogear P90 in the bridge position.
@PRS Guitars: Shall I give you a deposit for one now? Or would you like it later?
OMG 8.30 onwards amazing tones
The tone was freaking amazing on those! Love the p90s! Please please please do a reissue on an affordable scale!
I did like that pickin at the end
They sound great
Thank you for showing the very first one. It gives me hope that I can screw up my first try and come back from it.
Great vid! Love the history.
Thanks, Preston! Which guitar do you want to see next?
First guitars with the bird inlays.
Good call. That'll be a popular one.
Too cool...... can’t help but compare PRS to Harley-Davidson archives .... keep going Paul it’s all very well deserved..... I love my PRS as much as my Harley’s!!! 🤘😎🤘
Paul, I was backstage at the Capital Center when you gave that #2 guitar to Derek St. Holmes to try out. He immediately took it onstage - which was incredibly brave of him. I recall that he really liked the guitar, but as a vocalist, he was thrown off by the lack of side dots. I enjoyed seeing that guitar again in this video. (I also remember that you brought the #1 guitar along, as well.)
Thanks for sharing that memory, Lenny!
@@prsguitars I also remember that both guitars were way better quality than anything Gibson or Fender made at that point in time.
😎👍Vintage PRS!
I wonder how many Private Stock build requests they'll get for "reissues" of either or both. Thanks for sharing, neat stuff!
I like that intro Paul.
I have pictures with I believe the 4th guitar paul ever built. Back when I was a tech for Ted Nugent
Just built my 1st guitar. I can only dream of doinf something this 40 years down the line
Una eternidad espere este instante...
