    It's not a real charger, it's just some replica panels on something else. Just easing the aching hearts of car guys and car gals that see these.

    For those that don’t know, that “Dodge Charger” is actually a Crown Vic with aftermarket Dodge Charger panels welded to it. No real 69’ Chargers were harmed. Only a panther platform car and aftermarket parts.

      @@yixnorb5971 apparently the crown vic just happens to share the same wheelbase. There are some videos out there on UA-cam that show the conversion process. Also what ive heard is that some of the original machinery used to stamp the steel panels also survived which is why it's possible to do this.

    Fyi: The stunt drivers don’t compress their spines when doing these stunts because they have special harnesses that suspend them over the seat - kinda like an infant bouncy seat - to minimize the chance of back injuries. Just in case you were curious.

    • @Why-ym8ch
      @Why-ym8ch 5 місяців тому +1

      I'm not sure but I don't believe that to be accurate. Production couldn't afford to trash a Charger every episode or two so at some point, after a bunch of real ones got twisted from jumping, they switched things up and stopped trashing them. Now, with that being said, I can't recall exactly what they did but there's a vid' here on youtube in which someone tracks down (and buys) the first (#001) General Lee. An older gentleman had it, the original, on his (old scrapyard) property not far from where the show was filmed, he had a couple other vehicles from the show as well, and I believe he explains what was done (during filming) in order to stop ruining real Chargers. If i can find the link i'll come back and share it.
      EDIT ... So I found the link for the video I mentioned (in which the original General Lee was located and purchased), link below, however I just scanned through the vid' and I may be wrong in thinking that this is the video which contains the explanation about how they filmed episodes without destroying real Chargers. It may be in another video I saw at some point. This one is worth watching though 100%.
      I'll re-watch this one in its entirety and if the info' I referred to isn't contained within I'll return and share the proper link, in a new reply comment, if I'm able find it.

    Glad I read some comments before leaving mine. I thought it was a real '69 Charger.
    There is not many left and they won't be making them anymore.
    I have a 1977 Ford LTD that I take good care of. Not many of those left either as I have not seen a '70s LTD in decades except on the internet where I also found and bought mine.
    I bought a Dixie air horn for it too. 😄

    If you jump a car until the frame buckles from the force of impact, no harness is going to keep you completely safe. He's feeling that hit, no matter what anyone says. This may be a guy who does this often due to some of the comments saying he's done it over 30 times. That in no way means he won't be a completely broken man later in life if not already. That force is going to go somewhere & a lot of it will be transferred into his vertebrae. It's not avoidable when you're pushing everything to the limit. The car literally fell apart upon impact & the frame snapped. That's a ton of force to be able to do that. I'm thinking the ramp was set up wrong for too high a jump. I blame the ramp builder.
