    This is quite literally the best explanation I have seen in 40 years of playing golf. I never had a problem hitting the ball straight so I never understood the term coming over the top. This will help my son tremendously. I could never find the right way to get him to understand how to keep that inside out track. This will be a light bulb moment for him. Thanks! Forwarding it to him now.

    What made it easy for me to understand how to hit CONTROLLED draws and fades and why I hit UNCONTROLLED hooks and slices were the illustrations in Golf My Way by Nicklaus of how the backspinning dimpled ball generates lift like an airplane wing and flies like one in a banked turn when the spin axis gets tilted by a swipe across the back of the ball > o or o < not a dead center strike.
    Finally understanding what made it happen it was pretty easy to figure out how to make it happen at will, most of the time, when playing frequently, which is pretty much true of ever aspect of golf. 😂

    I'm 71 and I accidentally learned this to be true. I now force myself on all clubs to keep my back to the target (or as you say - keep my chest facing around 45 degrees behind me) and then just swing. Works marvelously, but I have to be certain to get a good back turn to put the butt of the club shaft pointing along the correct in-to-out swing path. Great tip.

  • @inarage21
    @inarage21 4 місяці тому +1

    Such a great analogy! I think the combination of swinging in to out but with a slightly closed face is what makes this particularly tricky. I'd love to see a video about how to close the club face more.

    Thank you! I tried using these swing thoughts at my local golf course yesterday and played my best round ever! The "pocket"idea literally transformed the way I was able to hit the ball.

  • @FlankerJackChannel
    @FlankerJackChannel 4 місяці тому +2

    I think you're 100% with the swing thought about hitting it hard. If you go up playing bat and ball sports you only get one instrument to hit the ball with but I golf you get many. It's very hard to develop the mindset that the club will do the work for you especially for me as a beginning golfer there is no trust.

    Okay went to the Driving range Thursday evening after work! Hit the draw albeit small with my 3 hybrid and 5 wood. Could not seem to make it happen with the driver and 3 wood! What fun it was to see it with a slight left off the Tee! The 4 fairways at my regular course I play need a draw… wait till the groups sees I have a draw now 😂

    Thank You for the explanation and visuals for what causes my slice. I will be working on that in the range more often and clearly now that I understand the cause.

  • @Michieldering
    @Michieldering 4 місяці тому

    So true! I noticed when I have a long fareway straight ahead on a par 4 or 5 I unconsciously want to hit it harder and slice it terribly! If I focus on slow and good swing I hit straighter and often further because of more spin and rol in the right direction.

    Excellent video. I started hitting a draw with my driver when I had the Eureka moment of a footballer (right footed) trying to curl the ball into the top corner.
    After I got that sorted I do the following (using a clock face) . The target is at 12 o'clock, I aim by swing to hit the ball to 2 o'clock and have the club behind the ball pointing at 1oclock ( ie closed). I find this gives me a baby draw or a straight shot if the dreaded fade tries to reappear

    I find that if I follow through my driver towards the target it doesn't fade/slice. Like stroking a putter to the hole on shorter putts.
