    Vocoder was used splendidly by Tangerine Dream on the track "Bent Cold Sidewalk" from the 1978 album "Cyclone". A very rare vocal piece by them.

      @@willfomes406 TaDream did lots of soundtracks in the 80s. Two of my favorites are "Thief" and "Legend". The second is absolutely classic. Look up their filmography.

    Vocoders were amazing to me from day 1 I heard them. It was like robots singing and grooving. Like Stevie Wonder, Level 42 and Daft Punk are doing.

    a vocoder and especially this one with some spacey/dense chords will always stick in my ears. it reminds me of like space disco from 1978 I love it.

    kenny everett, way back in the day, used to say 'and now for a digital sound effect'. Then there was a digital sound effect with... some vocoder! he used it brilliantly. Miss him and his jokes on radio.

    Hello Claudio. Just to tell you. My first two keyboards were the Jupiter 4 and the SVC 350 Vocoder in 1979. We used the chorus sound mainly on covers of "Genesis".

      Kris Relph I just orderd the new Berhinger vc340 I have the roland fa06 and yamaha modx6 I love thim but there vocoders suck and the roland fa06 is way better than the juno stage.

    This is the same synth which was used to create the vocoder loop at the beginning of Dua Lipa's "Levitating" by her producer Stephen Koz btw!

    Vangelis used the roland v330 as a main instrument for his legendary sound in the early eighties. The famous strings and choir sounds and vocoder a lot on the see you later album.

    Kebu has this in his synth collection. He doesn’t use the Vocoder feature he uses it for the string sound that it has.

    I had access to one in the very early ‘80s at the same time that I had the Jupiter-8. The strings on that Vocoder were so perfect for it’s time and maybe today.
    Great presentation.
    I believe you have the best collection of vintage toys from the past.

    Those square preset switches w/LED were so popular. Same switches as the Prophet 5 and I believe the new Dave Smith stuff is using those switches again. Thanks for the memories.

      @@Tarkus_H Not, but it was the ARP Solina, i.e. the rare modification of Solina(about 100 of them were made).It had all the capability of Solina , and additionally mono synth section, like in Farfisa Syntorchestra.

    The opening and closing pad to the tune "Suddenly" (Xanadu soundtrack) was this unit plus a Roland Space Echo and other FX.

    One of the most favourite keyboards used by Vangelis into Antarctica, chariots of fire, See you later, The friends of Mr Cairo, Horizons albums...
    Now there is a lower cost V340 cloner. VP 550 was efficiency also.

    If I’m not mistaken, the first examples I recall hearing of a vocoder include Michael Jackson’s “P. Y. T.” (performed by Michael Boddicker), Styx’ “Mr. Roboto” (played by Dennis DeYoung), Laura Brannigan’s “The Lucky One” (played by Harold Faltermeyer) and Phil Collins doing his own vocoder during “In the Air Tonight”. Got to wonder if all three of them used the VP330 which most likely directly followed up this one.

    This synthesizer sounds like the human voice heard on many of Vangelis’ albums recorded at his Nemo studio during the early 1980s. Is that right?

      That's correct! See You Later, Friends of Mr Cairo, Blade Runner have many examples of the VP330 (voice, strings and vocoder). The combination of Jon Anderson and the vocoder on Friends of Mr Cairo is just amazing.

    VP-330 strings section sounds like Eminent 310 strings section (JMJ Oxygen). Use an old small stone Electro-Harmonix phaser and delay effect and no différence!
    The New VP-03 is under a VP-330 but not very bad.

    They built a few communications installations during WWII that used synchronized vocoders to encrypt and decrypt telephone conversations between the US and UK. System was called SIGSALY. Impressive bit of work, but terribly expensive.

    I am going to buy one tomorrow. I may be crazy. Ha.
    I am more interested in the old string sounds and the choir instead of the vocoder.
    Yes, I know I can get those sounds in my computer. I have a zillion string machine VSTs. Many great. But an original would be nice while I am still around.
    I already have a RS-505 and Korg Lambda. Maybe the VP-330 will be redundant. Or a complete collection
