Love, Claudio & The Doctor Mix Team
I love how the sound is so rich that it starts flanging by itself.
I think that’s the chorus
Almost 40 years later and it's still an impressive bit of equipment..
“As you command Megatron.” -Soundwave
Vocoder was used splendidly by Tangerine Dream on the track "Bent Cold Sidewalk" from the 1978 album "Cyclone". A very rare vocal piece by them.
Yes, super cool song
They did the soundtrack to the 1983 Sci Fi movie Wavelength.
@@willfomes406 TaDream did lots of soundtracks in the 80s. Two of my favorites are "Thief" and "Legend". The second is absolutely classic. Look up their filmography.
Vocoders were amazing to me from day 1 I heard them. It was like robots singing and grooving. Like Stevie Wonder, Level 42 and Daft Punk are doing.
Sony Kroket
I always thought this was done in mixing. Not that there were actual machines for this.
Queen
man this synth give me goosebumps
Oh Behringer, Behringer, Behringer!
Roland: Lol, we have a boutique version of our VP-330. TAKE THAT, BEHRINGER!
a vocoder and especially this one with some spacey/dense chords will always stick in my ears. it reminds me of like space disco from 1978 I love it.
Damn, that Ensemble sounds so great!
This reminds so much to ELO's Out Of The Blue !
A vocoder was used In mr blue sky
Great video! I am so glad that I own an original VP-330. Lovely machine!
Ralph Baumgartl any chance you can record a few words for me for a fee?
kenny everett, way back in the day, used to say 'and now for a digital sound effect'. Then there was a digital sound effect with... some vocoder! he used it brilliantly. Miss him and his jokes on radio.
Pitmirk You wouldn't get away with what he did on television today. Sid Snot and trying to catch a cigarette in his mouth... and mostly missing.
@@gorillaau or Cupid Stunt
@@annother3350 ahhh yes, the Cupid Stunts
.....OK That is badass. I always wondered how people do that with their vocals.
Lovely rich analog sound.
Hello Claudio. Just to tell you. My first two keyboards were the Jupiter 4 and the SVC 350 Vocoder in 1979. We used the chorus sound mainly on covers of "Genesis".
Greetings from Puebla, Mexico.
This ensemble keyboard is so poetic...
A large portion of the song Mr Blue Sky by ELO was done using one of these.
Ur videos are way better than retro sound
Love this machine. Especially the part at 1:21 😁
This sounds heavemly....80s retro space funk musics were blessed
Best outro ever!
You make me love my Roland Juno Stage with its Vocorder😍
blah blah
Kris Relph I just orderd the new Berhinger vc340 I have the roland fa06 and yamaha modx6 I love thim but there vocoders suck and the roland fa06 is way better than the juno stage.
This is the same synth which was used to create the vocoder loop at the beginning of Dua Lipa's "Levitating" by her producer Stephen Koz btw!
Not only very highly interesting, recorded very clear and nice, but also amazing the way he talks! Why in hell people who speaks in english can't speak the same easy and clear way he does? Absolutely awesome! Congs!
Goosebumps😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
Laurie Anderson - O Superman has heaps of this
The real thing!
By far better than any of today's software and digital emulators
I ❤️vocoder!
Vangelis used the roland v330 as a main instrument for his legendary sound in the early eighties. The famous strings and choir sounds and vocoder a lot on the see you later album.
2:10 what a sound!
That's THE best video I've seen showing off the VP330! good work
The Roland VP-330 was heard in the song "The Voice of Q" (1982).
Queen "Radio Ga Ga,"
The VP330 can be also heard on "In the Air Tonight"
Literally just saw this yesterday out here in Shibuya
This video just convinced me to purchase it today
Hoping it’ll still be there first thing in the morning when I arrive 🤞🏾
Great video by the way… it’s done it’s job 👏🏾
EW&F Lets Groove 👍
“I thought it was youuuuuuu!!!”
If only ARP added a vocoder on the Solina String Ensemble. It would have given the VP-330 a run for itsmoney
Kebu has this in his synth collection. He doesn’t use the Vocoder feature he uses it for the string sound that it has.
"Amazing! This is a machine that I love!"
"We can boogie on down. Down, we boogie on down. Down, we boogie on down. Down, we boogie on down..."
Spazio Jobim let’s groove tonight
Beautiful and capable instrument.
I had access to one in the very early ‘80s at the same time that I had the Jupiter-8. The strings on that Vocoder were so perfect for it’s time and maybe today.
Great presentation.
I believe you have the best collection of vintage toys from the past.
Awesome work!!
Sumbi
Those square preset switches w/LED were so popular. Same switches as the Prophet 5 and I believe the new Dave Smith stuff is using those switches again. Thanks for the memories.
Always wanted a vocoder
get a microKorg..
or VP-03
eso teric I impulsively bought a boss vo-1 for my guitar and I’ve been having so much fun with it
4:30 sounds like Dogs by Pink Floyd
Exactly
That instrument was the Solina String Ensemble.
@@Tarkus_H Not, but it was the ARP Solina, i.e. the rare modification of Solina(about 100 of them were made). It had all the capability of Solina , and additionally mono synth section, like in Farfisa Syntorchestra.
Glad other people heard it
Stone stone stone stone stone....
You should do an episode about Giorgio Moroder and the role of synths in early dance music.
Ok.. Quizás regresemos dentro de unos millones de años.... Fantástico!!!
I love your presentations ... So happy 😁
Amazing👍👍👍👍
This guy is great to watch ! Ace videos.
The opening and closing pad to the tune "Suddenly" (Xanadu soundtrack) was this unit plus a Roland Space Echo and other FX.
Super cool video and nice chord
One of the most favourite keyboards used by Vangelis into Antarctica, chariots of fire, See you later, The friends of Mr Cairo, Horizons albums...
Now there is a lower cost V340 cloner. VP 550 was efficiency also.
Awesome vintage synth
Do you know Yellow Magic Orchestra from Japan? They were using it on their tracks for example Technopolis.
super!
We are the robots! Yeaaaaahhhh! :)
This sounds like the one that Vangelis used for his male choir on many of his albums in Nemo Studio. Wow!
By your command!
Love that sound. Eloy used vocoder a lot.
Same keyboard used in the song levitating Dua Lipa
70s keyboards are the best
1:12 it's like a boney M night fly to venus)
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto
Yep that and The Best of Times
Domo arigato, Mister Roboto! :)
HHahahhhah
chords at 5:09 are MAD 50s!!!
Okay that's cool
I managed to get hold of the MK1 with the big chunky rocker switches which I preferred & then had it fitted with Kenton midi. Had it a long time now though.
That thing is so cool!
Dua Lipa - Levitating main riff as been made on this little beauty by the producer THE KOZ
"Come running to me" :)
Great! Great! Great!
2:12 woooow
Have the Mk1 with rocker switches. Even nicer than the Mk2 in video, and I had it Midi retro-fitted.
You should do a video about the BBC Radiophonic Workshop!
Tanks tanks tanks!!!!! :D
And Behringer is releasing one. :D
This was 1 of 2 vocoders used by Daft Punk. This and the Digitech Talker
This demo would have been even more impressive in full stereo sound (especially for the Ensemble effect).
If I’m not mistaken, the first examples I recall hearing of a vocoder include Michael Jackson’s “P. Y. T.” (performed by Michael Boddicker), Styx’ “Mr. Roboto” (played by Dennis DeYoung), Laura Brannigan’s “The Lucky One” (played by Harold Faltermeyer) and Phil Collins doing his own vocoder during “In the Air Tonight”. Got to wonder if all three of them used the VP330 which most likely directly followed up this one.
Always dig your demos, Doc.
This synthesizer sounds like the human voice heard on many of Vangelis’ albums recorded at his Nemo studio during the early 1980s. Is that right?
That's correct! See You Later, Friends of Mr Cairo, Blade Runner have many examples of the VP330 (voice, strings and vocoder). The combination of Jon Anderson and the vocoder on Friends of Mr Cairo is just amazing.
They used the this on Transformers! Many electro artists also used it back in the day.. Like "Juice" by World Class Wreckin Cru
Also dua lipa levitating. Go hear it
Late 70´s sound !
BREAKDANCE. Do some Ollie & Jerry for us if you have the time. "Charge me, baby"
Oh so excelent
0:42 - It would be funny if you said "I think this goes back to... the beginning of time"
Amazing❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
VP-330 strings section sounds like Eminent 310 strings section (JMJ Oxygen). Use an old small stone Electro-Harmonix phaser and delay effect and no différence!
The New VP-03 is under a VP-330 but not very bad.
It does reminds me of Transformers, the animation series
They used vocoder for voice
They built a few communications installations during WWII that used synchronized vocoders to encrypt and decrypt telephone conversations between the US and UK. System was called SIGSALY. Impressive bit of work, but terribly expensive.
Machines are the easy part...
INSPIRATION is the hard part
Now I do know that this was used on Dua Lipa's New Track Levitating
True!!
i think Laurie Anderson Used this vocoder for voice manipulation in her song O'Superman.
Phoenix did a song with it, funky’s dance square
I am going to buy one tomorrow. I may be crazy. Ha.
I am more interested in the old string sounds and the choir instead of the vocoder.
Yes, I know I can get those sounds in my computer. I have a zillion string machine VSTs. Many great. But an original would be nice while I am still around.
I already have a RS-505 and Korg Lambda. Maybe the VP-330 will be redundant. Or a complete collection
I love you!
love the ending :)
Stevie Wonder's Talk Box next?
Georgio Moroder come to mind...
I want one
Me 2
Awesome !
