I have recently purchased CDs for the first time in years! Some thrifted (Van Halen’s 1984 and the Steve Miller Band’s Greatest Hits), some from the artist’s site (Bad Brains’ first three records) and some from Barnes & Noble, which carries a surprisingly good selection.
Hi Glen, thanks for doing this. I will answer your tag. I am both a CD & vinyl collector with large collections of both formats. I'll explain more in the video. Cheers from Sydney Australia. 😊
I've bought many more CDs than records the past few years as the vinyl prices have gone high. My first CD was actually the Bob Dylan Biograph box set, which I bought before I even had a CD player! I was still in high school and my first used car cost less than a CD player at that time, so I had to wait until my folks bought one. But I knew I had to have Biograph, so for about three or four months I just read the book.
My first CD player.... I bought about 1988/1989 The first CDs I purchased........ Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers/Conscious Party Tina Turner/Break every rule Cyndi Lauper/True Colors I have only about 42 CDs CD by my Favorite band..Rolling Stones/Exile on Main St. Wow you saw The Rolling Thunder revue?.Cool.I love the Baez& Dylan duets from that Tour Recommended CD..you probably have it..Glen/Artists...Tony Trishka,Bill Keith, Bela Fleck/"Fiddle Tunes for Banjo"(Rounder 1999)
Great video Glen.My first cd player was refurbished don't remember what model, but I eventually upgraded it sold it to a friend and he still uses it.I think the Stones I have 86 cds and 18 box sets
Thanks Glen. I created one for 2024 but got little movement. Had one in the can for this year but happy to see you’re as passionate as I am. I will definitely be doing this after the turn of the new year.
Hi Glen!!! Cool idea to do a 2025 Cd tag...... i don't consider myself as a cd or vinyl "collector" i just like music or bands and don't mind the format (even cassettes). I think i will doing a proper entry maybe next week and try to be as cool as yours. cheers and be well
My 1st CD was Peter Gabriel, "So" which I bought before I bought my first CD player. My favorite box set is Grateful Dead: Pacific Northwest 1973-74. You got that one, too. The GD Landover show was recorded 3/15/1990 and was released 10/1997. The best sounding CD in my humble opinion is Georges Bizet's Carmen, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Sir Georg Solti conducting. London Records 28.414.489-2 (USA) 3CDs. released in 1985.
I collect CDs , tapes and records. I specialize in Experimental music. First cd player was 1985. Had about 50 CDs before I had the player. Stay safe and Merry Christmas.

I have that Lydia Loveless album on vinyl...(oh no!!). I probably would have it on CD but I was in a store in Ventura and it was marked way down and I couldn't resist. (Also a larger picture of Lydia is preferable to a small one!) Excellent album like usual.
I love male guitar rock, but there's loads of female artists I love too e.g Kate Bush, Sinead O'Connor, Dido, Debbie Harry, Chrissie Hynde, Emmylou Harris, Tori Amos, Eddie Reader, Bonnie Raitt, Kim Deal, Linda Ronstadt, Adrianne Lenker etc. I will check out Lydia Loveless. Nice video again, thanks for sharing.
Hello Glen, I would like to participate in this tag. I ❤ my CD collection! It might take me a couple weeks. I can post in January. You really have some nice CDs in your collection. I enjoyed the video.
Yes, Lydia Loveless is great! I have all her albums. When I saw her live, she walked right in front of me and I didn't recognize her because she had just shaved her head!
1984-Panasonic Beatles, midniters box set, 1400 or so! Jewel boxes but would like to find something else!,I can’t remember her name but a Canadian singer singing chess hits was my favorite cd this year, also her cd was one of the best sounding cds this year. No real answer for question nine! The doors box set and thee midniters! Most cds Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, I 😮 both yeah I sold my collection three or for times! Cilla black, Lynda loveletch! So many to choose from I’m 78 years old started collecting singles at age 10 at one time had every charted single from 1950 to the last few made! Had to sell but what the hell I found them!
Love the audio and no ear mouth mic...I had 3.000 albums the guy above me my ceiling fell in he flooded my record room ruined them.all got wet covers stuck together threw them all out. Comps and some country was a dj some got dance cds too.one tall rack Beatles & solo.i buy between 6 -12 month 40 cd box sets. And 50dvd cpncerts
First CD player: 1989. First CD: The Beatles "Abbey Road" in 1989. Most recent CD purchased: Taylor Swift "The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology" 2 CD set. How many CD's in my collection: About 6,000. Jewel cases or digipaks: Jewel cases! Best CD purchase of 2024: The Police "Synchronicity" (40th anniversary box set). Live album on CD: Rory Gallagher "The BBC Collection" box set. Best sounding CD: That Taylor Swift CD I mentioned has way better sound than my previous digital download. The vocals and instruments sound much more "real". Favorite CD cover or insert: The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper". CD box set: The Beatles "White Album" (The CD set is much better here). CD from your favorite band: The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper". Which artist do I have the most CD's: Because of "The Bootleg Series", it has to be Bob Dylan. But, The Beatles are close. Both at around 50. Do you collect CD's and Vinyl: Yes, but just starting in 2018 for vinyl again. I had stopped in 1990. Have you ever sold off your vinyl collection: I gave my 1980's vinyl collection to my brother-in-law. But, I live with them now. So, I'm at least living in the house where my old records reside in the basement. 😊 A CD people should listen to. I've got two. The Last Dinner Party "Prelude To Ecstasy" and The Warning "Error". (Both all-female rock groups). 😊
James..thank you so much brother..awesome responses..that Pepper box set had a great slip cover..Glad you still have joint custody of your records..I will check out those albums..thanks glen
Have you listened to Lydia Loveless' most recent album Something Else with the piano versions of Somewhere Else? Totally different vibe, but kinda interesting. I have most of her stuff a listen a while ago (was in a CD exchange?), she's good.
Here she goes. 1) 1984 sounds about right. Separate component but I don't recall make and model. 2) First CD purchased...Don't recall. Foggy memory there if you know what I mean. 3) most recent - Ten Years After Woodstock 1969 4) Number of Cds in my collection - Approx 3100 5) Digipaks. With the glue in tray. The one you don't like and that you showed is referred to as a card sleeve packaging. 6) Best CD purchased 2024 - Gene Clark - No Other (Deluxe Edition) 7) Live CD - Eva Cassidy - Live at Blues Alley 8) Best sounding - All Traps on Earth - A Drop of Light 9) Fav CD cover or insert - Badger - One Live Badger (Japanese import) 10) CD Boxset - Patricia Barber - The Premomition Retrospective Years 1994 - 2002 11) CD from favourite band - Allman Brother Band - Live from A& R Studios NYC 8/16/71 12) artist most CDs - ABB (85) 13) collect CDs and Vinyl. No vinyl anymore. Collect CDs only. Couldn't afford vinyl after it came back plus would need to buy new equipment. I good with CDs. 14) Album people should hear - Gregg Allman - Southern Blood Cheers!
@@dennislind8411 I love you Dennis…Patricia Barber Box Set..didnt know that existed..No Other Deluxe is amazing..TYA Woodstock was a fav of mine this year too…And Southern Blood is amazing..great responses.thank you❤❤👍glen
I admit, I got rid of hundreds of CDs in the early 2000s, after I burned most of them to FLAC/ALAC lossless files on hard drives, originally for playing through vintage (mostly 1970s) audio equipment via iTunes -- and in the last few years, via Roon, which is as close as digital will ever get to the analog experience (with all kinds of supplemental materials for each album -- complete credits, lyrics, recording and background details, reviews, biographies, artwork...). I love my LPs, but would never part with my digital versions -- CDs and burned files -- either.
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement I dig it. But I'm probably older than you: 67! Just to clarify, though: I don't do "streaming" (from any service over the internet) at all, but I like having instant access to all my own music in one place because I am a highly disorganized person in the physical world. I misplace things constantly. I've re-bought so many things because I either lost the originals or didn't remember that I'd bought them before. As I say, I've learned to keep the actual CDs I love filed on shelves -- and I play both the discs and the files through the same Cambridge Audio DAC (warm British sound) and '70s amps. Best of both worlds (well, three worlds if you include LPs)...
Nice to see some CD love!
