  • This is a little different content for me, but it's good information for every homeowner. For 20+ years I serviced HVAC and restaurant refrigeration equipment. Cleaning coils is routine maintenance that can prolong the life of your equipment and save on your electric bill at the same time.
It is not difficult to do and if you do not have the ability to do so yourself, please consider paying a service company to perform twice a year service on your system. Your unit will last much longer, they can spot potential problems before the unit breaks down and you will certainly save on your electric bill!

This method works great on your trucks AC condensor, radiator, trans cooler, & charged air cooler.

That's what led me to clean my AC. I clean the coils on my trucks, especially the evaporator coil. PITA, but makes a big difference with the airflow.

My friend was complaining that his A/C just runs all day in this brutal heat and doesn't cool that well. He installed a window unit to get the living room cool enough. So I went over last Sunday to look at it. I pull the air filter and it's absolutely filthy. The coils are completely covered with dirt. I said Jesus dude, when was the last time you changed the filter? He replied I don't remember 😂. So I took a soft brush and some cleaner and cleaned it the best I could.
The outside unit was just caked with dirt and debris. In the 98 degree weather I cleaned the coils and straightened the find with a tool. I am just pouring sweat when I am done. I open his fridge and quickly down a beer. I grab a second one and he says hey man, don't drink all my beer! I responded and said when I am done with this one, I am getting another. Why don't you use some of the money I saved you and go buy me some more 😂..... We are friends like that.
But the air was far colder and there was twice as much air coming out the vents.

I let this go way too long. Every time I would think about it would be a bad time. Would really suck if the compressor failed because if anyone knew better, it was me!

You can find it at any HVAC supply like Baker, United, Mingledorfs, Johnstone. Do NOT buy the aerosol cans, buy the 1 gallon jugs of liquid and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the label. popular brands are Nu-Calgon, DiversiTech Triple-D and DiversiTech Pro-Blue (what I used). A quick search shows supposedly similar products at home hardware stores, but none of the usual brands so I can only assume they are inferior products.

You just forgot them...you worked in the parts department and surely you gave PO numbers to the techs who had to buy parts there.

@@2020HotShotTruckingLLC It's been a while...but as I remember...the few times I went to a HVAC dealer....I was told they did not retail to the public....so I stopped trying them. Besides....do you REALLY think I could remember anything that long ago? Some days I feel blessed if I can remember my name....lol
