- Hey guys! So lots of things to cover today. How we feed calves that won’t eat, the process of drying off cows, and “bumping”pregnant girls🐄. It’s going to be a nitty gritty video! Thanks for watching hope you enjoy!
Hello from NE Wisconsin, I have a lot of great memories from growing up on a small far. Working with the cows. Field work. Making hay. I want to thank you for helping to bring those memories back. Thanks again for another informative video. 👍
Hi, I’m so glad this brought back memories for you! The pleasure is ours! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Hast du schon einen Freund Ruf ruf mich an liebe dich über alles
About the sawdust shovel, I remove the short handle and put on a long handle, save your back
It can be hard on the back😄
my dad used to plant sweet yellow blossom clover the stuff would grow really tall like 4 to 5 foot on good conditions it was real stalky and with a 9 foot haybine we would cut like 3 foot hard to get dry BUT we would get TONS of bales and i was surprised we would dump in a bale of pure alfalfa and 1 of the clover pretty much EVERY cow would leave the alfalfa. problem with sweet yellow blossom is you get 1 cutting of real tall crop then its normal clover
That’s amazing! I’ve never heard of yellow blossoms clover but I am intrigued! Thanks for the information!
Hiya Tay,
Another great informative video; thank you.
I hope Brent is feeling better soon; being ill at work is no fun.
How incredibly sad; that poor calf does not get coffee? That is cruel beyond measure. Talking of that, I'll make myself one. Seeing a calf drinking in all that goodness from mom is always good. Seeing the feeding bottle system was good, too; I wondered how you stopped all the liquid draining out; interesting; thank you.
What went wrong with the hay? Incorrect moisture when put up? I know I wouldn't want to eat it, but then I wouldn't want the good stuff, either! Yep, you guessed, it's not coffee-flavoured, or even better, coffee ice cream flavour.
If you were keeping a calf, how long would you go before introducing dry food? And what would you use?
Stay safe, Steve...
We can tell u truly care about your laddies. Won’t be long and you will be in the field. Have a good weekend. Farm on. 👍
We do love our girls🐄!! Yay I can’t wait!!! Hope you have a terrific weekend as well!!
Hello Tay,hope you are well and hope that Brent soon gets better, best wishes to him. I really appreciate your teaching on your cow's welfare and how you practice it,especially on the "bumping".You make it so interesting. It's been a long time since I worked with cattle and you take me right back. Many thanks 😊
Morning Taylor, thanks for another fun video filled with all kinds of interesting dairy farm stuff. Great way to start my day. Best wishes, Deb

Keep up all the hard work hopefully Brent gets feeling better I dig you guys are set up I look forward to watching your videos take care God bless
Thank you! Will do!
Boy oh boy, I remember bumping. I had forgotten about that. Thanks for reminding me about that. My favorite time of farming was hay season. My job was raking and windrowing. We used a square bailer. They didn't have round bailers when I was farming. We plowed, planted , and cultivated. Never used weed killers. Just cultivated. Had chopped corn in the silo to feed during winter. Still loved it even though it was hard work. God bless you and your family and also Brent. Love the fact that you show affection to your cows.
I alway dreamed of farming that way with an upright silo and all! It sounds amazing to me!! Corn now from bunk silos is so wet and nasty😟 old ways are better in my opinion. Thanks so much for commenting I hope you have a great weekend!😊
Great small farm operation I really enjoy watching
Thank you, I’m so glad you like it!
Thank for the great information and a great start to my morning! Hope the rest of your day goes well!
Thank you! You too!
I hope Brent gets to feeling better. Almost everyone I know has a 'spring' cold! Tks for showing us how u feed calves that r reluctant to eat and explaining about 'bumping'. Having never farmed, I learned something today!!
I’ll tell him you said so, it does seem like a lot of colds going around this year. I’m glad you enjoyed and learned something new! Thanks so much for commenting 😀
Hi Taylor, thanks for another wonderful video, I used to hate tube feeding a calf but if it keeps it alive it’s well worth it
Wow Taylor, I learned some new things today, thanks for the good content. 🙋♂️🐈🐈
Taylor, I just love how you explain the behind the scenes working of a dairy farm. Not many people know, myself included, how much work goes into being a successful dairy farmer. You really do love your cows. It shows...
I think you are doing agrate job l was raised on a fram myself in Maine it is a true job thank you
Howdy From Upstate NY hope Brent is feeling better today 🤘🏻
Hey Taylor, I have not seen a Eastern AI book since I went to Cornell to Eastern Bereding School , That is when we had our Dairy Farm. That was a fun 6 days at Cornell. The things I seen and learned are still with me today, Even though I have not AI'd a Cow in 45 years. Great Memories. I spent a lot of time writing in many of those books, Straw No's and dates. OV time and so on. We had our own Nitrogen tank with plenty of straws of Bull Seaman and some were pretty dang expensive too. Enjoyed your video, Thanks for sharing.
That sounds like an amazing experience! I’m glad this brought back good memories for you, hope your day is wonderful!!
Very interesting content Taylor !! Nice looking calf !! Thank you !!! Tell Brent I am praying he feels better !!! God bless you all !!!!! Eddy
Thank you! Will do!
Video is nicely presented. Eaglegards...

Great video, cute calf. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for watching!
That is really cool. Thank you for the video please be safe and careful and as usual you look amazing hello from Virginia
Sure do. I do enjoy your videos. It brings back memories of when I was on a farm long ago. Please let Brett know that I hope he feels better soon. It's never good to be sick.
Another awesome vlog, I highly suggest that you go and take a class and learn how to preg check your own cow's, back in the day my old boss would check at 75 day's you are so capable of doing it and much more. I do enjoy your approach and a lifestyle of dedication that is getting lost, at least my part of the country
You are a wealth of information, if I ever decide to become a cow man I'll be looking up your videos often. Thanks for taking time from your very busy day to inform your audience in what it's like to be a very good dairy farmer. You have probably some of the most contented cows in the business. I look forward to each new video.
Thanks for the great videos
Thank you for watching!
Awesome job keep up the great work
You are doing fantastic,great video
Taylor, you bump a cow on the right side because the rumen is on the left side.
Ahh! Thanks for letting me know!
Very informative Taylor and love those little baby calves good to see it up and moving that's good take care and Brett get over his sickness quick thank you Jesus
Very good video
We have had great results with preg checking using our DHIA milk samples. Early detection of open cows especially.
I have about 42 that I can bump a calf in and as the old timers say the calves are “right tight to the hide” lol I was born n raised on a dairy farm and now how Hereford n black angus beef and that method has always been the most accurate in most cases.😊
We used the K-mar heat detectors and most of our cows were A I bred and we used DHIA scales to determine when to dry off
Hi Taylor I hope your day is going well. Thank you for another informative and interesting video. That heifer calf is a little cutie...we too have had the same issue with getting calves to take the bottle and we had a set of Jersey heifer twins that took 3 days before they took to sucking the bottle so that meant the first 4 feedings were done with a tube feeder just like yours but they are 2 months old already and going strong now...I always blame the stubbornness on them being Jersey which are more known for being just that and one learns from daily experiences of working with them lol Its amazing watching your videos all the similarities between Brents farm and ours here in NY as far as how things are done/used...we use sawdust for bedding and on the floors, we keep some of our calves in extra stalls in the milking barn as well just inside cattle panels instead, we do the bumping for the calves and our cows are preg checked by our vet the same way as well...I just dont have as in depth of record keeping as yours as I just usually write every one of the cows numbers/names down in a notebook and relate to the results of the vet from that for dry off. Its always a pleasure to watch your videos Taylor and keep farmin while keepin on with the keepin on. Have a great weekend and good luck during your calving season. I hope Brent gets to feeling better soon...alot of people are sick right now and I wish you the best of luck in not being one of them
Bumped a lot of cows, always on the right side!! you can tell how far along it is!!
Makes me feel better to know I’m not crazy! Always on the right side😁
Thanks for information
Thanks for watching!
IT SOUNDS KINKY 😛😛
Thank you tay hope 2 see new born soon Happy day and have a great weekend.
Thank you! You too!
Very interesting
Glad you think so! Thanks for watching
Taylor , that calf must be really happy, that tail is wagging a mile a minute lol😊
It sure was!😆 thanks for watching!
Brent gives you a “hard time” about recording, but he wants you to tells us he’s sick. 🤔 😉 Taylor, you would do well as a teacher, if you were not so in love with farming! One more thing…I noticed you left your phone’s flashlight on while it was in your pocket. As always, the cows were wonderful. Have a wonderful day, Taylor!
Nah, he’s great about my constant camera action😁 I think he’s coming around to be in more of them😆 I to noticed the light in my pocket when I was editing 🤦🏼♀️ thanks for commenting!
You are ready to own a vary notable
I don't like having to tube feed calves either. I have trainers but don't turn them on. Once a cow gets zapped a couple of times, she'll back up just by touching the trainer even when it's off
Nice job with that calf😁, what time do you start milking in the morning? Hope Brent feels better🤧🤒
Thank you, chores start at around five thirty. Milking around 6:30. I’ll tell him you said so, thanks for watching!!
👍
Thanks for another great video Tay how long is your feed from you sow it to you feed it ours is about 8 days we changed from oats to wheat an I think it’s better for the cow we get better results in the milk so keep smiling keep farming and stay safe take care 👍
Ours is around 7-8 as well. I’m glad it’s working well for you! Thanks, and you keep on farming as well! There’s nothing quite like it!!
that was a good shot when you were feeding the calf and that cow stuck her head in, loved it!! how long do you think it will be before you move the growing to the other building?
That was cute of her!😆 hopefully we will be getting into that building by the end of the month, thanks for watching!!
Question for you why don't you have trainers just wonder ? I use to farm as well thanks
Do you test the colostrum?
Do you ever have problems with your older cows getting milk fever after they freshen?
Y’all don’t do A.I. ?
Are you on DHIA?
Hi! No we are not actually
I keep watching for an ugly calf. They always seem to be cute you say.
You sn your boyfriend dia great job
Rassismus ich liebe dich über alles christkindltram München
Small farms will be the last ones standing!
