Good review! As a dad of 2 boys that ride EMTBs, I’ve got some thoughts. The gearing really isn’t that important for young riders on e-bikes. Mine typically stay in the bottom half of the cassette; even on long, steep climbs. Their light body weight makes it easy for the motor to power them up the hills. The ability to do laps on laps enables young riders to advance at an extremely rapid pace. I’m blown away by what my 8 year old can do on his Transition Relay. The key is that I “need” an EMTB to keep up with my boys! 🤣

Good point for sure power to weight. Loved to see the mini mullet 26/27 Specialized status for the groms.
Cool on the Relay, do you ever run into the problem of the Susoenion not working for them?
Try to be thoughtful about different types and I usually get crucified for saying mullet would be nice for shorter people

My son and his buddies are the most anti ebike crowd I know, they hate my Jeckyll cuz it looks like an ebike 😂
Anyway if you get them used to it young enough I guess...

Dude, seriously. Why on earth would you put a child on an assisted bike? They are the most adaptable and malleable beings in our species. They get used to using their body, their muscles and their aerobic system instinctively. Maybe you help them a bit in the beginning with an elastic tow rope - until they are fit enough to climb more and more without. That also has the upside of keeping them close enough to have a nice chat.
Teaching them that you need a motor to climb a hill is like teaching them that they can't swim without a live vest. Sorry - but products like this are a sad application of this technology.

I live in the mountains (near Annecy in France), here the roads are very steep and would discourage 99.9% of children from leaving home on a muscle bike.
Having ridden an EFatbike in the snow for a 3-hour session, believe me, I was just as tired as if I'd been out on an unassisted Fatbike, but I covered 4x the distance, and what fun!

Not just for children; I am a small adult who is too small for standard adult bikes. I just bought this bike to get myself to and from work. It's fantastic! I also use it at the weekends to go mountain biking. Just bc it's electric doesn't mean it does all the work for you. It's still rather tricky going up, but it helps to have a mother a lot!

Before you comment like this, perhaps ask "where" do you go on rides? Where i/we go there is a crazy long way to go uphill (no cars allowed). If not having an ebike, there's no kids in the world that would do our trilhas more then one time in their life!!!

eMTBs for kids allow them to keep up with much stronger fitter adults, allows them ride longer distances and visit places they otherwise wouldn't without a motor assist, and is generally fun not laboring slowly up climbs but instead cruising and saving your energy for the downs.
Your life jacket comment is ridiculous too. Kids who wear life jackets don't become hindered at all, it's simply a tool / safety device that allows them to swim for much longer periods of time than they ever could without one. Swimming with a life jacket makes you stronger, more fit and overall a better swimmer. Then when the life jacket comes off you can swim easier because you've been training for long periods of time using your life jacket.
