In my opinion the quality of your reviews, regarding video-Quality, camera-setup, drone footage, slow-mo etc. ... is the actuall benchmark of testing Videos on UA-cam. It´s even BETTER than stuff from channels like GMBN oder EMBN (sorry guys i really like your work! But Rob make such a good job) .. So, i follow you since 4 years now and the evolution of your videos is massive! Funny, even if you're not interested in the bike, you still watch Rob's videos anyway, for two reasons: 1. The production is so good, you get a great mountain biking fix. Locations were great in this one 2. You may well hear a tip / get some insight you didn't know, as he gets into detail riders want 👌👌
Very impressed by your video quality👍💪(not so much by the bike itself but thats just me). One sees that you put a lot of work and passion into this videos. You really honor the bikes and its companies by delivering such high quality stuff.
@@asifitmatters1 Oh, that’s a good one. Giant owns nothing of Specialized. They make some frames for them, but that’s it. With that said, I hate the company and I’ll never buy anything they make.
@@asifitmatters1 delaying payment is not the same thing as not being able to pay. It can be a tactic used to smooth cash flow. Bike sales ramped up way above trend over COVID. Orders throughout the bike supply chain from component manufacturers to retailers. Many companies also hired extra staff to cope. Now with the slow down there is inventory surplus. This delays the revenue to manufacturers and they are in turn delaying payment to component suppliers. You would have to analyse their financial statements to justify your claims. You should also ideally look at a longer term trend. If for example a company hired 1000 extra staff to cope with the blip of COVID demand and then let 1000 staff go when the blip finished, they are simply resourcing to meet their needs. Yeah. I definitely over spent on the Stumpy alloy Evo back in 2022 I love the bike though. I wish they had a frame only version of the new Turbo Levo SL that is not on the S Works branding
You came to test the new machine in my backyard, I am happy, because Sintra has fantastic trails and where it is possible to test all the capabilities of this new bike. Another excellent video.
Hey Rob, thanks for once more the most comprehensive video of a new bike on UA-cam! Did you weigh your S5 and are allowed to tell how much it actually weighs? I suppose 17.7 isn't the S5's weight. Thanks!
Excellent quality video from the pictures and style. Definetly liked that you tried the 29er config. However, a comparison to the TREK is what everybody is interested in, mayber you can do that in the future. There is one point regarding the battery, you mentioned that in the Gen 1 SL the battery could not be removed, which is actually not correct, it was removable, which is important for flying. So the question is, does this hold for the Gen 2 SL or is this no longer the case? Keep up the great work!
Great looking bike and the trials there look very lush . Here in NSW, AUs its very rocky and very unforgiving if you fall (basically on rock). Great article !!
You're shifting sounds louder so ebikes are definitely heading in the right direction. This with a range extender could be a great trail exploration weapon. This makes me consider the dark side of ebikes.
Great review Rob. Specialized we’re the pioneers, pathfinder’s of e-bikes and we have a lot to thank them for. However, I feel this bike is for the Specialized diehards, as there ecosystem is lagging behind TQ’s. Their motors are virtually silent and the display integration is much nicer. That SL motor sounds as loud as my full fat Levo. Perhaps Specialized realise they are loosing market share and punted this out as a stop gap and they need to address their excessive pricing.
There are things to critizice about Spe e-bikes for sure. But software ecosystem is not one of them. In fact their interface is much more refined and options richer than TQ offering. Not even comparable to the diodes of Fazua 😂. And what about integration it is barely the same, except for the slightly more recessed screen on TQs. But in counterpart it lacks the higher definition and colors of the Spe, so…
Thanks for the review Rob! Well produced! I find it difficult to sit through most reviews due to lack of substance and overly chatty speakers. This one on the other hand was informative, fact filled and minimal fluff. Thank you!!!!
Thanks for the great review! I’ve got the ‘22 Levo SL and I absolutely love it. The funnest bike I’ve ever owned! The 50Nm upgrade sounds appealing along with the Fox 36 though!
A great review as always the same, Rob. Nice footage, well production. The place where you took the video is just amazing. The bike looks solid however I’d prefer more powerfull motor than 55Nm but again it is lighter and capable for sure. 😊
I just hope these motors are more durable. I am averaging replacing at least one specialize motor every week at my shop. And I have had to warranty two batteries so far this week.😊
Great quality video! How many cameras, drones and downhill runs does it take to actually make a sub-20 min video look so effortless? I thought the 2023 had the "Gen2" motor... So is these changes specific 2024?
im wondering the same thing.. I was comparing the design of the motor mounts they appear to be identical.. and they do use the same motor for a # of different bikes.
Woo hoo! Thanks for the great overview. This week, I thought I'd trashed the rear triangle on my 2020 LSL and was thinking parts-swap to a cheap LSL Gen2. But, sadly, i just about managed to fix it :(
I can't wait for the new full fat one either.. Really hope they sort the motor reliability. I haven't had issues personally but plenty have... But it wouldn't put me off, I absolutely LOVE my Levo

SL 1.2 feels more powerful than TQ, is extremely refined in display / controls and app is great. TQ not as efficient as Fazua or SL 1.2 (In my own experience anyway). All great systems, competition is good for us consumers, it forces innovation.
almost makes me reconsider my new Turbo Levo Expert...almost! maybe if I didn't just get mine 2 weeks ago haha. Looks like they did a pretty great upgrade from the previous gen, well play Spesh! and of course great review/update on this, thanks Rob!!
Now I wonder if they kept the mounting system the same? So, if you already had a Levo SL and wanted to only upgrade the motor, could you do it? If so, that'd be awesome forward thinking by Specialized
@Paranoid Android most people that already have a Levo SL probably won't go around and buy this one too. However, many might be enticed to get the new motor for their existing Levo as it offers quite some benefits over the old one. I'd rather say that offering a way to upgrade the motor is also a way of creating a market for that as well, instead of completely missing out on those customers that don't buy a new bike every other year.
The new motor is has the same mounting points. They had test riders using the 1.2 motors in their 1.1 bikes. But not sure if the 1.2 motor will be available to purchase separately
This would be great if this was able to happen. I think the main issue currently with ebike is the onward or cross comparability. If you could upgrade the old SL with this new motor, there are a lot of SL bargins to be had as old stock is now being replaced

The mounting is the same, but the only way to do it is to buy a new SL. It's the same as the KSL too, but again, can't get a motor. In addition, you'll have to design and 3d print a motor cover as the motor cover changed for the new bike as well, and you can not reuse the old covers.

How does it compare to the Orbea Rise 2023? I’ve been comparing the Turbo Levo SL Comp Carbon & Orbea Rise M20 with 540wha battery upgrade. They come in at the same price. On paper the Orbea looks a better spec, however Specialized has 10mm+ longer travel back and front. What’s the real world comparison?

Wondering which one I might want to purchase? That new SL looks pretty sweet I must say. Anyway, thank you for your time and your opinions on he matter!!! : )
Do you think you can retrofit the motor to the older turbo Levo sl carbon? I have a 2020 and wonder if I should upgrade or whether I could update my existing bike with the newer motor?
Watt-hr bro...not watt/hour. A common mistake. Only so many high discharge cells you can fit in that small downtube to keep weight down. Looks like about that amount of space. Better bring one or two extra in the Bronco if you take this bike to the trail Only about $2K more or so for couple for 'small battery bottles to continue your ride. ...laughable money grab from Specialized. Reason is the battery is integrated in the downtube so when you use it up you have to charge it and can't swap it out. Hang on batteries bottle store even less power.
Rob: is the max speed assistance cut-off controlled by a wheel circumference setting in Mission Control, like on the Brose Levo, if so does this mean that when you replace your out-of-the-box rear 27.5 with 29, you're then getting assistance beyond the limit (e.g. 25km/h in Europe), and to get it adjusted do you have to take it to the dealer, or is the owner able to switch between 27 & 29 through the TCU?
very good point ... in addition are there different speed limiters for Europe and the USA like for the road bikes? AND is there a work-round if there are 2 different speed versions
I honestly don't understand why these review do not mention the disaster that was from a sales point of view the previous SL, let's see how it will go with this one, finally more torque, but I would never buy this at a sticker price... Can't wait to see the discounts 😂

Will the motor work in my old 2022 turbo levo sl?
I honestly don't understand why these review do not mention the disaster that was from a sales point of view the previous SL, let's see how it will go with this one, finally more torque, but I would never buy this at a sticker price... Can't wait to see the discounts 😂
have you had the opportunity to test Sworks SL LTD?
