I saw this when I lived in Creel, Mexico for 7 months. They would stop at the "Divisidero" at the Copper Canyon lookout point. It was so cool to see! I tell people about it until this day.

I took the 'Goat & Chicken Train' to Creel in 1992 from Los Mochis, Baja C Sur. It was spectacular. Lived on my boat there for a year before moving on...I'll never go back to Mexico.

@@ernestomonarrez13 Mexico used to be much better. Not any more. Too dangerous now. Tu casa mi casa? No thanks. Tu casa has a dirt floor. And Creel is a waste of space.

You're right, it was an amazing trip. There were about five companies who were doing it. I think we paid about $ 1200 for a 12 day trip. They try and stretch it out and we went on various side trips. The actual railroad trip was 5 days over the Sierra Madres from near a town south of El Paso, to ending on the coast at Los Mochis. One of the passenger trains the year before had been stopped and robbed by banditos so we had guards with us on the train the whole trip. Can't do it anymore.

One of those RVs was so close to the edge on the car it looked like it was going to pitch over when they took a curve. Wooden car floors, wooden supports to load/unload, passengers hanging on by a rope; just too much possibility for someone to be injured or worse. Yes, it looks fun and you had the time of your life, but again, I understand why they stopped it.

Actually, you are only on the train for 5 days and have a chance to tank up water and drain grey and black water. They also let us drain a little gray water, I recall, if someone was really filling up, right on the rails. The rest of the 12 days you are in other towns along the way. Too bad you can't do it again, we think it was the greatest vacation we ever had. Thanks for watching it.

Those flat cars should have been pulled by a steam locomotive. The train would have been more interesting that way.

Nice to hear you can still do that, but too bad you can't ride in your RV. Nothing like having a pitcher of margaritas and food, driving down the railroad tracks! If the Mexicans thought it was too dangerous, it must REALLY have been dangerous! Thanks for watching.

I have watched this twice! Thank You for sharing your trip with me. Out of curiosity in 12 days what did you do for water and electric?

Instead of drinking water, I drank a ton of Corona's. Instead of using an electric blanket, I slept between 2 fat ladies, it was great.

I wish I had a chance to do that. You can still put your vehicle on Amtrak just south of Washington D.C. and ride the same train in a passenger car all the way to Sanford Florida. Its called the Autotrain.

I worked on the caravans for 10 years. Took several train trips. Even did one with motorcycles. The RVs just didn't weigh enough compared to heavy freight. They couldn't charge very much. In spite of the fact that it looks dangerous , we never had any injuries except for a couple splinters from the crappy wood railings. I got derailed twice with the motorcycles. The worst experience was; parking next to leaky ammonia carts in los Mochis. The railroad wasn't making any money off the light RVs. Also, people complained loudly when we got pulled through at night.

Thanks for your comment. You can no longer put your RV on a railroad car through Copper Canyon, but can still take the passenger train. I think it cost us about $ 1500 for a 12 day trip, five days of which are on the train itself. Enjoy!
