I personally have made the choice to not buy new clothing anymore at all and basically just thrift my clothes. I just can't justify buying new stuff anymore, unless I absolutely have to. So I would love more sustainable / thifting content on here!
I want to check out this big thrift store in LA that actually sells stuff at a reasonable price, but you have to dig through bins. Most of the thrift stores in LA have laughable prices, in fact they’ll charge double is it’s a trendy piece from the 2000’s smh
Im from Pakistan, a country where most of Zara and H&Ms clothes are made. I cannot emphasize enough how these fast fashion companies have dictated the garment business to a point where local pakistani clothing stores also getaway with unfair labour. I try to buy from small local businesses as much as I can or thrift because a lot of rejected or faulty clothing comes back to the country and sold cheaper. I personally cant justify wearing clothes that were made in conditions where the laborer wasn't paid fairly or works in unhealthy conditions just so that trend can die a month later and that piece ends up being donated to a charity home.
I totally understand your point! The entire system is messed up. Unfortunately, wether you look at very low end such as Primark, a bit more expensive fast fashion such as Zara or H&M, expensive sports brands such as Adidas or Nike, or even very expensive brands such as Ralph Lauren or Michael Kors, it’s all the same: they all produce under horrible conditions, some brands just mark up the price in addition because they can. Even real high end designers oftentimes mainly produce in countries such as Turkey and only have the finishing touches added in France or Italy. Lastly, I know there are ethical brands out there but unfortunately they mostly represent a certain style which a lot of young people, including me, don’t like at all. I wish the governments of the countries who mass produce fashion would do something to protect the workers and the environment and would actually punish companies who disobey them.
Good to see you addressing the constructive criticism. In my opinion, for the average consumer it's about finding a balance. Like you said, it starts with cutting down your consumption and building a wardrobe you love that has reusability. Invest in some timeless higher quality pieces if you are privileged enough to do so, or look for a more affordable but sustainable option. I tend to associate the term "fast fashion" mainly with the cheap, trendy, not great quality brands like Forever 21 and the likes of them. But a lot of big brands still fall into the category of fast fashion even if they are more expensive and higher quality, being they are still made not the most ethically. Which makes it difficult for people that have less money to spend on frivolous things. I know a lot of girls tend to buy large quantities from places like Shien (low quality/cheap) because they aren't in the best financial standing, and they still want to have cute clothes. I wonder, couldn't they thrift and alter, or buy higher quality but still fairly affordable clothing from places like Walmart and Target? Those places aren't saints but they have much better reviews about quality, however they don't have the quantity of styles. It's a debacle. For someone in the influencer world it is a bit different. This is your job. If you don't ever add new pieces when your content is mainly styling outfits, you will possibly run out of content or the audience might get bored seeing the same pieces repeatedly. Your consumption also depends on the kind of fashion content. I've seen a lot of influencers style clothing and give the audience inspo, like a lot of your old fashion videos. But I've also seen influencers that constantly buy/receive new clothes and link every piece in the description so the audience can have the same fit. It begs the question of what is an influencer? A face to sell product? Or a way to express yourself but still earn money? You see influencers partner with brands/sponsors to promote their clothing and have affiliate links and that is fine in itself. Reviews in return for either money or free clothes. This is a business. An influencer is in essence, a virtual model. It's a new age way for companies to sell their clothes to the masses. So for people like you, I think it is important to bring in new pieces/partner with brands but in moderation and with carful consideration. In a partnership even if you select in moderation you are still endorsing the company and inadvertently, what they stand for. I think that's where some backlash comes from. What's the motivation/intent behind creating content? I think it's a matter of what kind of influencer are you? Is it solely for money and to sell product or is it more of an art form, playing with fashion but also earning your due profit and occasionally taking sponsors? Your viewers pick up on the subliminal message that your content gives off. I don't think you are here just to sell us things every video, but you have to continue to show us that. One of the things I dislike most about many of the places like F21, is that they put out a lot of outrageous pieces that only work for festivals, costumes, or Instagram posts. And with influencers constantly taking/posting pictures, does that wacky item have more than one use in a business stance? Will they wear that costume again next year? It goes back to being aware of your consumption. I'm very picky, so I tend to avoid pieces that are distinctly a current year's trend that I know will die out quickly, unless it is something I love and or have loved in the past, and know I will still wear it when it's no longer trendy. I've been trying to slowly build up my wardrobe since I've become more interested in fashion, adding some fun colors or statement pieces that fit my different aesthetics, so no matter the mood, I always have something to wear. It also helps that I used to hate shopping because I never found anything I liked!
I try to do “window shopping” where I add items to a wish list on my shopping apps. And only pick and choose what I really want during sale time. If it’s sold out - then it’s not meant to be. I’ve also been slowly letting go of pieces that don’t fit well or don’t make me feel good. And investing in clothing that makes me feel comfortable in my own body. Not being able to easily return clothes helps me to be more conscious of the clothes I buy. I also do donate all the clothes that I throw out unless they are in really bad shape.
That's a really good way to do it. I personally hate shopping, I hate trying things on, waiting in line and then justifying spending the money. I have to reaaalllly like something before buying it, and 9 out of 1 times I just put it back on the rack.. Sometimes it's almost concerning tbh because I'll go full 6 months without buying a single thing when I might actually need something, but then again I am also blessed to inherit a wardrobe from previous gifting events or brands I've worked with.
I feel so happy for u evelina. I have literally watched u since the day I saw your video “how to look slim” and I knew that one day this girl is going to have her own clothing line. I have honestly watched u grow so much over these years. Things have always changed in your life but something that has always remained constant was your love for clothes. You literally eat live and breath fashion. Love you and can’t wait for your store❤️❤️❤️ so so happy
Your hair looks so healthy now! I remember how you were so proud of your old hair and you were relentless in getting that health and shine back. This colour also looks great on you!
I am agree with you everytime I go to a thrift store here in California or even Platos closet the pieces are soo expensive for something second hand, I prefer to save my money and buy new pieces that no one touched before because we are still in the middle of a pandemia. 🥰😘
Of course we should all be socially and environmentally conscious, but evaluating and offering commentary on fashion is part of your job. I wouldn't worry too much about how large your wardrobe is.
Lots of denim for this haul and although I personally wouldn’t purchase so many different denim pieces, you rock them! Either way I love any fashion videos you make!
I resell my clothes to Plato's Closet when I'm done with them and I even find some stuff there I like as well. It's a sort of teen-style trendy clothing thrift store.
I have the same insecurity...my middle part. If, for some reason, it is not entirely flat.... I feel so self-conscious. The next day, guess who’s doing a lot of cardio? This girl in here! Hello from Florida. 🌴🏝🏖🏖
Your hair looks amazing! It is literally my dream hair :) Everything looked super cute on you. I don’t really buy fast fashion anymore because I overall don’t buy as much clothing like I used to, so when I do, I am fine with spending a bit more. When I was younger though, we didn’t have much money and there was no Forever 21. My mom would take me to inexpensive stores but there wasn’t anything for tween or teenage girls that was on trend. I remember being questioned as to why I don’t wear “cool clothes” and not knowing how to answer that. We just tried to get me as much clothes as I could get from the annual budget I had of $200. When I started working though, I needed professional/business casual clothes (office job) and those cost more. Since I wanted to look as good as possible, I saved and got a few really nice outfits and felt really good about myself for the first time. Then, I started hearing comments on how I wear the “same few outfits” over and over. So...it wasn’t good enough that I got nice clothes....I need to have “lots” of nice clothes. A kind female manager had heard what people were saying and pulled me aside one day and offered me a personal check so I could expand my wardrobe, letting me know I could pay her back at the end of the summer. I will never forget her kindness. For those reasons, I will never question why a person chooses fast fashion. I think it’s great to look at it from a sustainability lens though and if someone has the means, then yes it would be best to choose differently.
I still love skinny jeans so it's sad to see all the influencers curse them. They are so flattering on both men and women. I gravitate to ones with a little stretch if they are form fitting, and the ones with zippers at the ankles so they fit well but aren't sausage casings. I wanna get a pair of men's skinny jeans because they seem to fit more loosely but still hug the leg and are the more durable, stiff denim. Also yes to the longer cut denim shorts! I wear my booty cut ones lower than they're supposed to be so my butt doesn't hang out, but I got a pair of the biker length and I feel like the karate kid, butt secure and ready to crane kick!
Baby please don’t stop wearing them. If you enjoy them and they make you feel good wear them! I was just one of those people who wore the smallest size possible and didn’t know or think to ever wear a different cut. I’ll always love a skinny jean, just not when I don’t feel in shape😂😭
@@evelina Girl do not worry, I'm not hanging onto every fashionista's word for approval. Regardless of everyone's preferences, I love 'em and will wear 'em to death! I noticed a pattern of switching them out for mom jeans and I was wondering what heinous crime they committed to go to fashion jail? But ah I see. I wasn't sure if you didn't like the style anymore or if you just realized some were too tight and constricting. Don't let the ill fitting ones get in the way of a good meal 🍅and the ability to dance. I understand the bloating and weight fluctuation strugglebuss + skinny jeans. Thanks for the clarification!
Quawan Charles was taken from his house without permission taken to a field and lynched. It happened in October of this year. The same thing happened in 1945 with Emmet Till. No one is talking about it and Instagram has it....on something u just can’t share it.
I am not a fan of denim... Don't know why always feel like I'm back in the time when I was 15 and in high school :D It doesn't make me feel dressed up. But it depends. On others it can look cool :) I personally prefer fabrics made of viscose, cotton or linen. With their own environmental issues, I know, but still better than polyester or going naked😂 🤷🏻♀️
Yea I don't see how a diamante corset will be rewearable a yr from now. And even if you wanted to get an item from a fast fashion brand, fine, but you got like 10. For me you kinda lost your zest in the process. All the best in the future.
