yes the sexism was in the animation! In fact, Sokka started off as a sexist idiot himself in it. Then he met Suki, and they made him wear the Kyoshi dress while training with them, then they jumped his ass, and then he got smarter about girls. That's why he's able to pull Yue, he got humbled.

It's actually almost impressive how he made it this far into the show, hearing them all said over and over, and still gets them wrong 😂

Sexism and culturally imposed gender roles were actually a significant theme throughout the first season of the animation, but the live action seemed nervous to tackle those issues, leading to some awkward changes. For instance, Katara and Aang standing up to the waterbending master and the Northern Water Tribe's sexist beliefs was an important part of their arc in season 1 but the adaptation's unwillingness to cover these issues actually ended up giving the impression they are more sympathetic to the sexist views. Other issues the animation covered pertaining to gender roles were removed entirely, so I won't mention them for the sake of not spoiling the animation for you, which I highly recommend watching.

I miss the sexism because it's relevant today. The lessons taught could help many young men, women and in-between not only to find their own voice vs the one culture forces in them, but maybe to reexamine what views they hold.

I don't see how the la "seems sympathetic of the sexist views" at all

To me the live-action series was amazing. Regardless how you feel about the live-action series... You definitely owe it to yourself to watch the original animated series. It's not a coincidence why everyone including critics rated it 100%. It's the greatest show ever. And that's not an exaggeration. I give the live-action an 8/10. The animated series a 10/10.

I’m a wee bit confused. You have watched 7 episodes but, you do not know how to pronounce the characters names.
