- Well, it’s that time of the year again. Many airlines, those who link the calendar year with their fiscal year, are releasing their 2024 4th quarter results alongside their full year 2024 results.
With an operating income of nearly $6 billion for 2024, the airline is indeed doing very well. We take a look at Delta’s success over the past year!

best summary of delta ever
Far from a brand new fleet 😅. Yesterday I started my flight on a 737-900er, and ended on a 757-200. Neither are new planes. This is the norm.
@@benhart16 Back in January I flew from Nashville to Detroit on a Delta 717 that was built back when I was in the 1st grade. I turn 30 in July lol.
@@benhart16 In all fairness, they do keep even their older planes looking really good compared to other airlines. I fly on their A330-200/300 a lot, and if it wasn't for me knowing how old they are and some of them were already in service with Northwest before the merger, I would not be able to tell. Yes, their D1 on those birds is a little dated, but again, this is something only the folks who fly enough would notice.
LOL they're far from having the youngest fleet among the legacy carriers
Not surprised. They are by far the most consistent performers among US Airline.
I do enjoy flying with them, but sadly most of my travel these days is to Manila, and their footprint in that part of the world sucks. I hate having an extra 5+ hours added to my travel time from being routed through Korea. United has a direct flight to Manila from SFO so I may have to switch.
Flying Delta about a dozen times a year, both international and domestic, I find them to be consistent. My only complaint is I find their international routes to be priced higher then the competition.
I think that’s intentional because people care more about a quality experience on longer flights. Therefore, they’ll pay a premium.
Love seeing these quarterly breakdowns! You should definitely do more of them
Delta is doing well for *ONE* major reason: they avoided the Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan fiasco that has seriously affected other airlines. Because Delta's TechOps have full certification from Pratt & Whitney to replace defective parts without sending the engines back to Pratt & Whitney, this means Delta's A220-100/300 and A321neo fleet have suffered no significant downtime.
Well we’re doing well for a lot of reasons. Diversified revenue streams, smart investments like the oil refinery and MRO business, etc. The GTF issues are affecting us but we’ve been able to compensate with older aircraft.
The new GTF engine shop is impressive, one of only two MRO’s in North/South America who have a contract to work them for customers. However, the main bottleneck is parts. Our shop can overhaul ~300+ GTF engines per year at max capacity. Most of them sit around waiting for P&W to deliver redesigned parts that fix design flaws though.
P&W is a garbage company that makes garbage. All I’m gonna say on the matter. 😂
I only pay the delta price to fly the 757 because it's just that good. Once they're gone, I will be
Feb 14th is a great day in Atlanta. That is the day that the profit sharing checks go out. Some senior employees can earn a years salary with that check if the company does well. That is a big reason Delta has so little union representation.
😂 and some employees can buy the latest video game console
I really enjoy your videos like this! Thank you
Winning best airline app over United is insane. But I will agree, Delta is my favorite US airline and I will even go out of my way to fly them. I've also heard that the 6 parked A321neos are Delta One configuration waiting to be certified by the FAA.
Many of these “awards” seem suspect..:
After getting stuck in Dallas for the third time i was over American and their miserable overworked indifferent employees.
I switched over to Delta and its a world of difference.
Agree with most points. Their app in my humble opinion, needs loads of work. The 2nd beef is the vintage 767's I seem to be stuck in all the time. Great video.
My absolute favorite airline Delta 💯💯💯💯💙💙💙💙
Just do the opposite of what American Airlines does and you will make money.
😂😂😂
Airplane costs (depreciation and amortization) and rent is so small?! What am I missing??
Delta historically likes great deals on airplanes and keeps them in service longer. We’re buying the 737 Max because Boeing gave it to us at a fire sale discount (No pun intended.) We’ve done that a lot, buying less popular aircraft models (B717, A220) or taking over orders. The upside is we’ve gotten great deals on a lot of planes. The downside is we operate a LOT of aircraft and engine types. This makes logistics more difficult.
The solution? Delta Techops is one of the best maintenance facilities in the world. Our quality is unsurpassed, we have customers send us engines other overhaul facilities screwed up. That expertise helps compensate for the diverse fleet. It also means we can keep our aircraft in service longer before having to buy new planes.
Finally, we’re the only airline with an MRO business. We don’t just fix our planes, we fix them for other companies. That revenue has higher profit margins than selling tickets actually. Greatly offsets our own maintenance/operating costs.
Nice vid
Bring back the MD 90
They gave a lot of drinks orange juice, tea, coffee. can't complain
With as profitable as they are you’d think that they could make their domestic first class product something that’s worth the ticket price, you know.. like bringing back hot towels and warm nuts like United and American still have. Deltas first class is very bare bones currently. Almost forgot many routes are still getting sad boxes instead of plated meals.
Umm…. Grammar police here ! CRAZILY please !!
Best airline app is uh, questionable lol
2:59 wait, so Delta generated more revenue from the cheaper main cabin passengers over their fancy premium class? 😮
So why not give the main cabin folks just a few more perks for the value they bring on board?
Just saying!
They already do over competing airlines. Just off the top of my head, United doesn’t offer free WiFi.
@@ahscott2001 I don't think any airline flying around the US offers WiFi to the same degree as Delta does. Totally free for SkyMiles members (still being rolled out, which takes a bit too long imho) and free messaging on all flights.
And the comparison is somewhat unfair, as the seats offered and therefore the number of people generating the revenue is a LOT greater in main cabin than in their premium seats. Especially since Comfort+ does not count as premium in their math. This narrows it down to Premium Select, First and Delta One.
And they're always crying about how unfairly Qatar and Emirates are treated... LOL
I only fly them because of their reliability. Their in cabin service sucks.
Delta is a great company. But I hate they are using airbus.
me too
Why do you hate airbus?
In economy airbus is better. A220s, A320s, A330s, A350 all have better seat configurations for economy that typically result in more aisle access or a wider seat than their Boeing competitor. (exception being the retired 767)
