    loved this video, it might just answer a question I've been struggling with - a quicker way to correct loads of paths during the converting progress. Great Video, nice to hear you talking yourself through it, it helps hear someone other than me asking the questions when the programme was jamming. Stay smiley

      Yes, in the current version of Inkscape, you also have the "Split Path" feature. Anyways, I didn't find "Easy Studio" as a product. Did you mean "Easy cut Studio"? Because that's a much more specialized product, where Inkscape is really a broad use vector editor. But I'm glad you found a product that serves your needs.

    I still get lost on how you make the hole :( help!

    • @freesoftwaretalk
      @freesoftwaretalk  11 місяців тому

      Hi Tammy, actually there is a much simpeler approach in the later versions of Inkscape. Have a look at the outset functions in the path menu.
      As for the hole - in essence what you do, is keep the blocks that become a hole apart from the melting together all parts (and then in the end, cutting it out one by one). You can't expect Inkscape to know what path is a part of the chameleon, and what path should be a hole.

    Thanks for the great video. I am trying to increase line width of a drawing so i can 3d print it to but it needs to be precise would you know how to do that?

    • @freesoftwaretalk
      @freesoftwaretalk  Рік тому +1

      Hey Mark, another approach could be to give the image a stroke (line thinckness). This will expand the lines with the accurate thickness. Now convert stroke to path, break apart and remove the thinner lines and irrelevant paths. It's a bit of tweaking but feasible.

    So far this seems to be exactly what I need. but once I "broke apart" and clicked off to the side it did not show just black like yours? I am fairly new to all this but am learning a ton through your videos and others. Help please what am I doing wrong?

    Great video! I was trying to follow along using the same Chameleon graphic you used but I ran into a problem trying to remove the hole on the Contour level at 5:31 in the video. I'm wondering if a step went missing in the video or if there is a difference in functionality between Inkscape 1.1.2 (Windows 10) I am using and the version you are using in the video? After performing the Union command to create the outline, I was not able to select that small little piece near the middle of the graphic, the whole graphic was selected, in preparation for performing the Difference command. I believe I performed all the same steps as you in the video. I have captured my "Undo History" if that is any help in trying to figure this out? Earlier today I tried the same exercise on a Mac I have access to but ran into the same problem - sadly I did not note the release of Inkscape on that machine. Any help you can give would be most appreciated.

      Well... I just tried it in Inkscape on my computer. Admittedly, it's the nightly build (so Inkscape 1.2 developer edition) so it might be slightly different again. The only thing I can think of, is that the order of the broken apart path elements is reversed compared to the previous/old version. In the new version, there's actually the option "fill between paths" in the paths menu. It does all the joining of paths for you. Next, you can use dynamic offset (Ctrl-J) to drag the contour out with the node tool... it has become a lot simpler. (admittedly, the approach using the stroke to create an outline gives a slightly better result with less artifacts and more control over stroke width) Oh, and thanks for the very clear explanation of your problem. It helps a lot when trying to figure out what your problem is.

      @@freesoftwaretalk Thank you Jurgen. I'll give it a try later this evening and might even upgrade to 1.2 release if I continue to have issues. BTW, I used to be a software developer so I understand the challenges!

      @@stevegoff4934 "fill between paths" doesn't exist yet in 1.1.x - and I just tried my steps. The only difference with my video indeed is that the biggest paths are on top (and not in the bottom). I did a few other tests, and sometimes the order is unpredictable. If you select the biggest area, you can use the "end" button to move it to the background.

      @@freesoftwaretalk I got it to work on Rel. 1.1.2. All this from the Contour layer: After "Break apart" I selected the part I wanted to be a void and performed "Raise to top" (probably not necessary as I think about it now) and then "Union". Then I selected the outside path and performed "Union". Then I Selected the outside path and the inside path (the void area) and did "Difference". It seemed to work. Thank you so much for your assistance. I owe you one!

    how did you remove the logo?

    • @freesoftwaretalk
      @freesoftwaretalk  3 роки тому

      With the node tool, I selected the area around the small logo. I removed it because it didn't come out of the trace in a nice way. Don't remove credits though (that's also partly why I explicitly named the source in the beginning)
