halloween michael myers friday the 13th jason voorhees A nightmare on elm street freddy krueger Saw Hostel Night of the living dead Return of the living dead Dawn of the Dead Day of the dead John carpenter Slasher film
I work for WB and I’ve never once been shocked by a bad decision we’ve made as a company
@LarryHinkley I don’t know for certain, I work in the backlot/prop warehouse so I’m not around the distribution people too often but I know that these remake 4k rumors are looking pretty true and the WB store on the studio property is selling blu rays of the elm street remake all of the sudden.
LarryHinkley I try my best!
The original film was released in November of 1984, so I would expect a 4K release in that month to coincide with the 40th anniversary. I would start worrying if we didn't receive news by September.
its the 1984 version.. what is he on about?
It appears a bunch of those titles that were on that Warner Bros. poll are starting to leak. So hopefully ELM ST leaks soon. BLADE II and TWISTER being the latest to leak.
I definitely must agree I'm hoping it's a joke & WB hits us with the original first. If they do bring out the Remake first that will kill our childhood memories of the original Freddy franchise... Personally, I think they should do a box set that they did with Friday the 13th. Do them all and include the remake. I would easily pay $150 for it. No questions. Take my money and let me enjoy the nightmare on elm Street franchise. Who's with me ✊🏼
Platinum dunes owns it. We have to remember that it’s not the same as something like Shoutfactory who actually try to package them together
start EVERY video with “Alright Ladies & Germs” LOL
It's literally the 40th anniversary of the first film. Warner Bros are releasing Purple Rain, Terminator 1 on UHD for their 40th anniversary, and Team America on UHD for its 20th anniversary, so i have a feeling the listing crediting the 2010 film might be some kind of typo.
Ever since WB bought New Line in 2008, they have been treating the Elm Street franchise as an afterthought. I feel WB doesn't have the enthusiasm for Elm Street that the fans do.
Is it because the remake might not need a full fledged restoration or restore unlike the original movies? I imagine it would just need a 4k scan for a quick cash grab and to hopefully satisfy the customer base. The original series should look awesome in 4k but might take time to fully do it right especially if they want to add in previously censored footage and the 3d effects for Freddy’s Dead
If Warner Brothers isn’t gonna give NOES the respect it deserves by giving these films a proper restoration and release then the least they could do is license them out to a company like scream factory so they could do it instead
I agree but the problem is they consider this series an “active franchise” and won’t let anyone else like Scream Factory touch it.
'Active franchise' we haven't seen freddy in 20 years
@@headshot217 yup I agree but you know them, they think its active since they make money off the dvds.
Hey Christian ☺️ the elm Street movies are currently streaming on Netflix.
Nightmare on Elm Street was my first love... They better release the OG first.
I remember Sam Bayer always saying he didn’t like HD and always shot on film it should look good, granted I agree with what you say and I like the remake.
The only Nightmare on Elm Street movie that I don't own and I would never rewatch it.
I’m starting to wonder if Elm Street isn’t as popular as we think it is. Why does no one think they can make money by making new films and putting out new physical media releases?
Nah, I don't think it's possible. Even CUBE is getting a 4K release this year. There's no way there are more people buying CUBE than NIGHT ELM ST. At this point, I truly believe it's a "rights" issue like CHILD PLAY suffered for a long time.
@@bindervaultcollectibles
Yes, and yes
I don’t think it’s as popular as some of the other classic horror movies,
And yes I think there are rights issues
Elm Street is still one of the most popular horror franchises ever. If it isn't as popular today as it was in the 80s that's only because there hasn't been a new movie in years.
Cause the wrong people are in charge unfortunately.
Personally, I'm holding out for a box set. I think I'd only grab this 4K on like a Black Friday sale or something.
I’m with you man. I want them all.
The first movie deserves a 4k first period. I hope the backlash hits them hard and they postpone in favor of the first one and put out the remake later. Then again, when have Warner home entertainment done anything we beg them to.
I have a feeling SF is fighting hard for a shared rights distribution between them and Warner but I imagine Warner are playing hardball to the point that SF are frustrated enough not to want to address/elaborate on it.
This is EXACTLY what I posted on social media when people like Physical media president posted news about the remake coming out on X and IG. People were like nope! Skip! Garbage! And I was like ok yeah I get it but this could definitely be a way to gauge if and how fast they should get on releasing the older ones. When it comes to some of these studios, we know they don't make the right decisions 9 out of 10 times.
Also, when the day comes they announce a release of a 4k boxset (cause you know that's what we hope they do 🤞) please don't just do a rush job and do a shitty transfer and shitty artwork ! I really hope they would source it out to Scream Factory or something. 🙏
Shout Factory was probably working from 2K masters for the BluRay release, so whatever they were doing, would need to be redone in 4K.
If the barometer theory is true, very disappointing from Warner. But Warner Archives are pretty switched on.
There’s got to be some kind of rights issues (music?) stopping a box set coming out.
But this release smells more like an attempt to get SOMETHING out there for the 40th, in lieu of having a box set ready.
People won't be happy but will still buy it.
Definitely a bad move from WB. It almost feels like a bit of an F U to the OG fans. Put some respect on Freddy’s name
Nightmare 5 and especially Freddy's Dead put zero respect on his name. This is way better than those two imo. Been a huge fan since 84.
@horrorfanforlife8664 Lol. No way man. Those are much better than the remake. Everyone has their personal opinion though. ✌🏻 Have a great day.
@johnnydarko2736 I agree, Dream Child and Freddy's Dead are fun. The remake is a joke and not a funny one.
@@tonymata8070 they are fun in a leprechaun sequel kind of way yes. The remake as much hate as it gets, at least took Freddy seriously again. I really don't get all the hate for it. But that's my opinion
@horrorfanforlife8664 I don't mind that he was serious, my issue is that they tried to not just imitate EVERYTHING, but trying to make a child r*pist innocent.... that was the last straw because that was poorly conceived.
I don't understand why everyone thinks that we actually need a nightmare on elm street box set on 4k. Bc if you actually look at the market sales for 4ks and you will see the 4ks sales are only about 10 to 14 percent in market sales. Unlike blurays sales witch are around 28 percent in market sales. And I would be happy if we just got a 7 disk new 2k remastered box set of the first seven films with each film with its original poster for its cover on each film. Or just release the original DVD box set on bluray with a new remaster of each film on its own disk. And add new special features to the box set
Who cares? 4K is better than 2k. We need a 4K box set!
@@lawrence09151 no we don't & just bc you want a 4k boxset doesn't mean we need a 4k boxset. And if you look at the 4k market sales there not even half of the bluray market sales. Bc not everyone buys 4ks. There are more people buying blurays then 4ks. And I don't really care if Warner bros does release a 4k boxset as long as the boxset is remastered and each film has its own disk
You must work for WB😂. Yes it's true that 4k is a small piece of the pie in physical media. And frankly I wish they would just kill DVD so that we can move on and thrive the other 2. But even though it's a smaller piece doesn't mean it doesn't bring in money. And certain 4k movies crush it. Like Oppenheimer 4k was extremely successful and had a shortage. Nightmare on Elm Street 4K boxset would get huge sales for WB. Trust me when I tell you if it ever happens, and you want it day 1, you better get your pre order in quickly cause its going to fly off the shelves.
No I don't work for Warner bros. I just read the weekly sales charts that come out every week. And the studios will not kill off the DVD format bc of how much the DVD format brings in on sales still. Bc the DVD format brings in 65 percent of market sales still and bluray only brings in around 28 percent in market sales & 4k only does around 12 percent in market sales. And this is one of reasons that studios are not 100 percent behind bluray & 4k bc the sales are between bluray & 4k are not even half of the sales of the dvds are. And to me it is sad bc I thought by now blurays would have taken over the DVD market by now. Bc i jump on buying blurays back in 2009. And I am shocked that dvds 📀 are still this big after all these years
@@tomboling2309 yeah I totally get the DVD market brings so much money but I feel at some point let's slowly kill it and start making people jump ships. I mean they did it with Cassettes to Cd's, VHS to DVD and so on and so forth. At some point it's gotta go.
Don't worry planet, we're gonna get a great 4k steelbook collection like the superman, Harry Potter, matrix, mad max, lord of the rings, hobbit and Godzilla/kong collections
It’s not really surprising for Warner bros. They’re not making it for fans it’s about money. Probably was the cheapest option to make as a 4K. Most likely will be used as a benchmark to gauge if they should invest into making the rest.
Also was probably the easiest to make due to the family having the rights and remakes seem to get different rights like Childs play.
No different situation, Child's Play was released by Orion Pictures and the sequels were done by Universal and Orion still had the rights to the original which is why they could do a remake but Nightmare On Elm Street was always New Line and since the rights are now with the Craven estate, Warner Brothers can only release the current films so choosing the remake first would have nothing to do with rights!
I think they are being very strategic actually, I mean think about it, by releasing the REMAKE FIRST, they will probably sell a lot more of them. They know everyone wants the original films on 4K, but if they were to release the REMAKE AFTER THEY RELEASED THE ORIGINALS ON 4K, no one would notice or even care, but by releasing the REMAKE FIRST, they will sell a lot of them, I bet..
The irony is not lost on me that you made this video in a Crystal Lake shirt lol
We havent seen freddy for 20 years and yet continue to get garbage from Myers and Hallowen. He is the only horror icon arguably the biggest back in the 80s to not have any media whatsoever for 20 years
Releasing the remaake first is the worst idea possible. its a terrible movie which you would only buy to complete a collection. Halloween was smart by making you buy Resurrection
I’d buy it just to support the franchise, but I frankly want the series to be put out by a boutique label than Warner Brothers. They almost always do a better job.
Elm Street remake sounds more like something those dummies at Scheme Factory would release… goes with all the other shitty 4ks they announced
The Nightmare On Elm Street remake is a movie that is so clearly shredded with dozens of scenes left on the cutting room floor. Scenes just end abruptly with fake jump scares stopping them. Parts from the trailers and making of just aren't in the film. There are sub plots that are vital character arks that aren't even touched on(Nancy being afraid of touching people. You can tell by how she acts this is the case but the movie never touches on it.) The film feels like you are only seeing half a movie because that is EXACTLY what it is. I don't know if it would be any good, but if this release would be a proper directors cut with all the removed stuff put properly back in I would buy it out of just pure curiosity. The film wasn't good, but I feel that was due to how it was edited and I feel it should be shown in the proper light that it was originally supposed to be. So I say, let this new 4K come out, just make it the proper director's cut that it should be.
Ok, I actually never knew that it was cut to pieces in the editing room.
Give us the real deal, stay away from the remake.
Bad idea that is the same as releasing halloween resurrection on 4k before the original
The original had a 4k from lions gate way early. Back when there were less than a hundred titles out. It was one of my first 4k movies
The Elmstreet 4k's will be as big a deal as the Aliens release...
Doing the remake first would make no sense, I would get it but the remake being the first 4K announced for the 40th anniversary is a bad move!
Nooooo. Hope not .Great video
It depends on us to boycott that release
It could be a marketing strategy. They realize that by releasing the originals first would several hurt sales of the remake. So they release the remake, get a good amount of sales, then release the original and get more sales. In-between they just remain quiet otherwise fans would just pass on the remake.
This doesn't deserve a 4K, give us the good originals on 4K. Releasing the remake first on 4K before the original is like putting on a condom after sex.
They don’t come out and say it beciase they don’t want to piss WB off
If it is true that a box set fell through they're probably legally not allowed to say why they can't get elm Street
since elm original will be 40 this year why havent they yet? ITS A CLASSIC
I refuse to get the 2010 film in 4k. It's not worth it unless it's in an entire box set . I'd rather have Freddy's Dead in 4k than the remake...
I think it's a money issue that's why they keep moving the movies around on different streaming sites and other stuff. I'd rather the remake come out first, they get enough money to put in effort for the original and then the others cause if the original came out first and looked bad fans would be mad.
At this point given it's the 40th Anniversary for Freddy they really should roll out the complete 4k/Blu Ray boxset of all the films and Freddy's Nightmares as a thank you. I couldn't thin of a better time than this year for it.
I saw the remake and brought it on Blu Ray, It was ok but not great, Platinum Dunes could of done better.
To think that WB would use the remake as the measuring stick for a release of the 1st Elm Street does not surprise me 1 bit, It's smart but bad business by them.
I think the remake on 4k would still sell well if it had good features. Fans usually buy even the worst sequels or remakes just to compete there collection I know I do lol. With that said yes it's weird releasing the worst movie in the series first. If the 4k has a lot of good features I will pick it up if not I won't bother.
Bad move. No one wants this first. Robert Englund will bring in sales and trust me fans will buy it ASAP. Sorry Jackie. This is like putting Leprechaun Origins On the cover instead of Warwick Davis.
I'm buying it just to support any future Elm St. Releases ... I agree with what you said that maybe their checking the waters, before they jump in......
From what I've been able to dig up WB no longer has the US distribution rights to the nightmare on elm Street films. In 2019 the rights reverted back to the craven estate so it's highly likely that WB only has the rights to the remake which was the only nightmare on elm Street movie made after the WB merger in 2008.
I’m hoping they are putting it out separate and then they announce the 4k box set for the originals. That way if you don’t want the remake it won’t be in the set
If true, as a barometer it's going to fail on my part. I have zero interest in it. As such, I'm not going to waste my money on something I don't want. Either way, I still think the best move that WB could do is license them out to one of the boutique labels so they can get the release they properly deserve.
I was the ideal target audience when this movie first came out; I had heard of the Elm Street films and the Freddy character but I hadn't watched them, I was going into the movie with nearly zero expectations or biases. And it was so utterly boring and forgettable, even now I can't remember a single scene or actor from it. The experience put me off from watching the original films for nearly a decade, and when I finally did they were excellent.
No point for this movie to even be on 4K anyways
Shouldn’t have been made period
Give us real nightmare movies on 4k
God damn I hope not. They should just give it to Arrow or VS. let them do the work.
whether tbe original Nightmare on elm st the OG. not that crappy bad remake gets a 4K release it will be a huge blow to the fans. i bought the whole Nightmare on elm st bluray set om amazon. it doesnt include that stupid remake thank goodness. they're really fumbling the ball. If scream factory would have bought the rights a long time ago that boxset would have been released like 2 years ago
I don't think the issue is that WB doesn't think the Freddy movies on 4k won't sell. I honestly think WB doesn't care about the series and just does not care. I think it's an issue of simply not giving a crap.
They don't have the rights to distribute...
@@boomstickcritique902 because they don't
Might happen unfortunately
I like the first one and new night mare, that’s about it
Don’t even want it on 1K.
The remake is my favorite nightmare movie but it doesn’t make any sense to release that one first.
Have this really bad feeling WB may use this as an excuse to say this would be why the 4Ks of Elm Street wouldn’t work by releasing the remake first.
Do have to say on a positive note Christian, that shirt is awesome! I have one that says Crystal Lake Running Team with Jason on it lol!
Said it before and I’d say it again. If the remake hits 4K first, and I said this to Ken as well, I’m gonna riot. WB CAN NOT be this stupid!
OMFG. Who wants that s**t??
It makes no sense that they would start with the newest Elm Street movie and not the oldest. Releasing the original in 4k would be such a better barometer for the demand because I already know it would sell like crazy!
I'm trying to figure out what their issue with the original films. Do they have an issue with Robert Englund, the cast, or what? It didn't even have a decent blu ray release. What is their problem and what are they thinking by releasing undoubtedly the worst film in the series 1st, and possibly only the worst
It's still March 🤔❓❓
1.2..💅
I ain't buying that trash reboot
Terrible remake
I actually like the remake and have zero problems with it being released first. The series will be released on 4K. It's a no brainier
