  • UPDATE: sold for 285$ two weeks after.
As a 3d printer enthusiast every so often I look on marketplaces for trashed 3d printers, buy them for cheap, restore them and sell them for extra cash. Worth it? well, it's fun for sure!

It's risky and people often ask pretty outrageous prices for broken stuff. But if you get a good deal you should probably go for it, doesn't seem like something you can live off though

My daughter was given an ender 3. It only needed the bowden tube and a new nozzle. At that point, there isn't much profit left because you can get a new one for $160. But it was a GREAT deal for her and she's loving it.

@@3DPrintingForMoney Thanks. She is loving it. And she learned far more by troubleshooting it than just spinning in 1/2 a dozen bolts and printing an XYZ cube lol.

With patience, those two parts are nearly free if you use Aliexpress.

The biggest problem that I could see is the profit. Given that the most popular printer is the ender 3 and it is already very cheap you would have to get the broken one for next to nothing. Might be better pulling it apart for parts like in the automotive industry.
Even then there isn't really a market for second-hand parts as the new ones are so cheap.
Would love to know if there was a profit made or not.
Great video. Keep up the good work.

Hey man, thanks for the feedback, appreciate it! You sed it right, your analogy is perfect: mainstream cars (ender 3) are used for parts and only some special/vintage model (cr10 or you name it) are restored and sold for a profit. i got the one in the video very cheap, otherwise it wouldn't have been worth it. I'm current selling this one, we will see how it goes!

There are hundreds of ender 3's on facebook marketplace and 99 percent of them are overpriced and have been for sale for months. When you can get them new for $180 or sometimes even $100 then there's no profit margin. The money is in design or high volume niches.

Fb marketplace is a good place where to start, but some items are overpriced, Ender3 are $99 at Microcenter. No reason to get them used.. Instead I have a guy nearby selling 2 raise3d at $400 each. They need some love but there’s defo a chuck of change selling them as refurbished. But i agree with you Karl that most income comes from elsewhere in the 3d printing space

@@3DPrintingForMoney There is so much room for creativity in multiple directions in this art. That's what I love most about it. For the masses to express thoughts 3 dimensionally in just about any color or material, it's a renaissance era we are living in.
