I was there literally unforgettable. We'd packed up the tent earlier in the morning and so at the end of this (he headlined the last day of course) we walked out to the car and floated home with smiles that lasted a week.
The best Bowie concert I saw was in Rochester New York 7778 something like that when he was arrested with the band for heroin cocaine marijuanawhat are the band members took credit for that so but we did not get in too much trouble sadly he would never play Rochester New York again funny thing my future sister-in-law Kathy laskey was a few feet away I married her sister Karen McCombs in 1985 macaron rest in peace Paul Carpenter
I have been fortunate enough to have attended every Glastonbury since '78 (aged one!) And this performance from Bowie still remains the greatest Set I've ever witnessed at the Festival.
GlastoMole ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| You are the luckiest person, maybe in the world. I have been to Glastonbury only once but could only imagine looking out from the Tor how it might be with music and people. ... my visit was not during the best fest in the world. I visited in 1968, on my way to the Hippie Trail. This is now at the very top of my top 100 list. I did see David, only once, at the Tacoma Dome with its great acoustics.
David Bowie only included Under Pressure on his set list after the death of Freddie Mercury as a sort of tribute to him as he always considered it to be more of a Queen number despite being a co writer.
@@Freddie1980 apart from performing the song at the tribute concert, he startet performing it live regularly when Gail joined the band in 1996 with the Outside Tour five years after. I've yet to see the quote where Bowie stated that he did not perform it because it was Queen's song. I do not question that he started performing after Freddi's death, just the motivation.
Deacon and Bowie were actually the main writers of the song, John with the riff and Bowie with the general melody. Freddie did most of the words. It was never ignored by Bowie just not considered particularly significant till the song over time went on to be regarded as truly great. After Freddy's death it became a classic but Bowie only started singing it as Gail (huge, huge Queen fan) championed it. Them's the facts.
Was working the main stage that night as part of the medical team. I was one of the guys behind the barriers rescuing the fainting dehydrated fans who had been down the front all day. DB is my absolute hero so I asked to swap my duty from the NME stage. Never believed that was the last time I would see him....
Absolutely! So nice to hear this up close and personal, sometimes I think I'm the only person who insanely is hooked on DB (and gale D), indeed, he came to a small arena in a small town in Colorado in 2004 wearing that metallic blue tie and pants.. 2 months later he collapsed. I never missed him when he came to CO over 3 decades - the best years of my adult life - Thank you, David Bowie and all who love him! Love your story, John!
There is a lot of sorrow, maybe even some despair, in this song. But there is also a bit of hope in it (no contradicition here). The stuff of our lives. Dorsey's voice is clear, clean and crisp. And I listen.
Was there ever a better set played at Glastonbury, David was a total genius, if only we could bring both David and Freddie back for just one more jam ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
There are 3 great things about this #1 hit around the world: Bowie's lyrics, John Deacon's bass line and Freddie Mercury's vocals Here, Ms Gayle Ann Dorsey takes care of 2 out of 3
Linda!
Well, she's the coolest bassist ever.
No kidding man.. Friggin chills
She is cool, but the coolest bassist ever might be d´arcy wretzky
@@schamitz I love pumpkins but I don't think D'arcy can hold a hat to this woman. She also dropped off. She had tude but this lady is a god.
Playing now with Lenny... Everything seems to be so simple for her.
ZeMagnan she start in the 90s with tears for fears, then bowie and since 2005 with lenny

WOW THIS WOMAN IS INCREDIBLE.
She is Gail Ann Dorsey (twitter.com/gail_ann_dorsey
playing Deacy's part whilst singing Freddie's parts performing next to Bowie 👏👏👏
Best version of this song! What a voice has Gail Ann Dorsey!
Agree, she tops Anne Lenox version any day!
True gentleman, the way he stood back and let Gail move to front of the stage. Class.

I was just thinking the same thing.
Her voice gave me chills! Fantastic stand-in for Freddie. ♥
That bass line and freddies part she is something special

David and Gail ❤❤❤

Naah, only after Gail Anne joined Bowie's band there was a suitable partner for him to perform with.

In Queen shows, Roger sang Bowie's part.
In Bowie's shows, Gail sang Freddie's part.
That Bass riff so simple but WOW ! timeless

And I listen.
Queen's best song , by far
to play that bass line as well as she does and sing, thats really amazing
What? Any decent bass player could play this classic bass line and any decent musician can sing while playing, it's really not amazing.
My 2 favourite people
After what you created on earth Mr David Bowie you deserve a rest thank you from the bottom of my heart for you special talent rip sir

Bowie c'est toujours la classe
The coolest bassist ever
A great moment in musical history
A milestone in the art of a live performance. Gayle Ann Dorsey did a wonderful job as the voice of Freddy Mercury...
Jon V. Thorsteinsson She actually used her own voice 🥴.
Why do people keep spelling his name as 'Freddy'? It's 'Freddie' for christ's sake.
@@Freddie1980 right so annoying hahaha
Listen to this with good headphones. If you don’t get goosebumps you’re not human.
Wow
Great.... love Bowie forever
Notice how he stands behind Gail Ann Dorsey. No ego .A man completely secure in his own greatness.
wow , what a fill in !
Damn at first I thought it was Freddie singing from a prerecorded but I was wrong. She sings awesome
The ultimate highlight in a show full of highlights!
Brought tears to my eyes, did this. How very beautiful!
Bowie, like Zappa, had an incredible knack for spotting talent. Earth shattering life affirming touched by the hand of god talent.
Gail is the boss, amazing
Wheres Gayles name she is a lovely singer that's Gayle Ann Dorsey.... she is so sweet
Gail
Yeah she's got pipes, she also has incredible fingers. Holy sh*t what a bass player!!!

Can't believe how many bands she's played with I like and never knew she was a part of! Poor show for me but thanks for her name.

TWO ARTISTS AS ONE .
AMAZING!!!!
I wept and have chills all over. Miss you Mr. Bowie.
sad that its taken 20 years for me to find this .. thank you.
That's understandable. They just now released most of the Bowie footage from Glastonbury 2000. I just found this today myself.
Not too late.
Mega Wellen
From Ziggy stardust to infinity, all gone in the blink of an eye!!
It's a Sweet Thing, the Glastonbury performance.
Os melhores estão indo, daqui uns anos não teremos mas talentos como esses.
The best thing about Glastonbury being cancelled this year was getting to see all these performances which I never knew existed.
Fantastic
Beautiful!!!
The bass player is amazing

I was there that night in the cold only 20 back, and yes it was our last chance. From there on the word was fucked. Happy memories.

This song really suits Bowie. As a tribute to mercury it's amazing.
The man did write it, of course it suits him :D
Bowie eres un genio
I'm speechless.
Épico 👏👏👏
Cancion perfecta
Bass player nails this.
Always regret leaving early, my 3 year son or Bowie, luckily on line now. At the time mortified xx
Sublime versión una locura...cuánto el gran David
Who knew Gale could sing like that.
Great version. It's weird tho, now and then you expect Freddie to come in as they've been so faithful to the original and the band are so tight.
