    bro your day is coming, you will blow up on youtube and the next thing you know, one of us original subs will see you out somewhere and your just gonna be nose down in your phone like, "don't talk to me, if you have any questions just ask Huell my bodyguard, I don't have time for" and then proceeds to brush your long flowing mane out of your eyes, all whilst walking away! but for real man this channel is such a hidden gem!

      I just bought one this year, a Panda Talon AWD Auto with 59k miles. I've seen at least 5 for sale this year alone that are single owner, low mileage examples. A lot of the original owners are finally getting old enough that they don't care about em and want to get rid of them. Most are garage kept and have minimal to no rust at all. Mine was owned by an older lady in a more rural part of my state. They are out there, you just have to look high and low for them.
      The biggest issue in 2017 is that the ECUS are on their last legs. The majority of them are damaged due to leaking capacitors. After 25+ years, it's something to be expected especially if moisture is locked inside the car due to leaky door seals. In fact, that is what was wrong with mine and how I managed to buy it for a ridiculously low price. The owner got too frustrated because they couldn't figure out how to fix it and just wanted it out of their driveway. I actually did the first startup last night after swapping out the bad ECU for one that I knew was good.

      Subscribed just in case you decide to post a video about it. Even a short slideshow of photos would be worth a view.
      I noticed you don't show Jafromobile in your subscription list. If you haven't heard of him, I strongly recommend his videos for any gearhead, but especially DSM'ers. You might also enjoy Project Binky if you like body work, user robertbaxley, Kelvin Williams, and a several others. 'Quite a few good DSM-related channels on YT.

    You should if your not. Be sure to reuse the heat sink on the driver side fan that comes as stock. It's use is to remove heat from the fan wires and electronics given it's location to the exhaust, turbo and heat. Granted a turbo blanket will help for the melting items.

    Full fan shroud video, please! I need to make one for my BMW, because I'm tired of the racket from the mechanical fan. Also, the way BMW has the expansion tank/heater hoses routed is an absolute PAIN. I want to improve serviceability, and quiet down the racket. I've been thinking about designing it in CAD, honestly.

    • @WilliamDye-willdye
      @WilliamDye-willdye 7 років тому +2

      Agreed. I'd watch a fan shroud vid. As for using CAD to design your BMW shroud, I suspect that you'd be better off using "Cardboard Aided Design" (as Project Binky puts it) instead of Computer Aided Design. Short of an automated tool to scan in the existing engine parts (Google Tango, maybe?), it's gonna be a pain to get the geometries of the existing engine represented accurately. If you're doing just the one shroud, I'd model it in cardboard. If you have lots of other plans, of course, it might be worthwhile to somehow scan in the existing parts.

    • @camarowland4
      @camarowland4 7 років тому

      just measure your rad and make half a box with some clearance off your fins and a hole for your fan. it's not hard

    • @computiNATEor
      @computiNATEor 7 років тому +1

      You guys haven't seen the amount of stuff attached to my radiator and fan shroud... plus I want to learn CAD for fun! I have an E39 530i; here's the factory mechanical fan shroud, seen facing the radiator/from the back to the front of the car: www.bimmerforums.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=584117&d=1476225019.
      The colored circles are the attachments built into the radiator. On the top right side, there is an expansion tank with hoses that run beneath the mechanical fan to the auxiliary electric heater water pump on the left bottom side (no, I'm not kidding, unfortunately). Under the top of the shroud (green circle in the pic), the overflow/expansion hose runs from the left/driver's side of the radiator tank to the expansion tank. It's a complete PITA to remove and service. Here's how; it's so bad that there is a write-up! www.beisansystems.com/procedures/e39_fan_procedure.htm
      My redesign would consist of moving the expansion tank to the left/driver side of the radiator, along with re-routing the heater hoses (making them considerably shorter) and the overflow hose. Now that I know about these Volvo fans, I'd probably use one in place of the existing mechanical fan, as the factory mechanical fan was ~18" in diameter.

    Can you do a short video showing real world spool up? Hit it at WOT in first from a stoplight(no launch, just wot from like 5mph), go WOT in 3rd and show when it kicks in, etc. This is like my ideal setup for my 2G, and I'm curious to see real world videos showing spool up on a TS HX setup. I want to go HX35/2.0, or HX40/2.4LR, both will be TS so you'd be helping me a lot. Great video as always, Erik! -CrackedDSM

      It flutters in that video but it's difficult to hear. Once I put the 4" aluminum intake on it then the sound got crazy awesome. I think the intake is bouncing the sound around and amplifying it. It sounds like a 2JZ or RB26 now! :D I don't know if it's good for the turbo or not, but HX35's are cheap so I don't care :D

    Do you run both fans off of the factory harness for the right fan?

    • @VelocityLabs
      @VelocityLabs  7 років тому

      Yep. And I have a switch that turns them on and off.

      On my DSM I had to run a Push pull too. With one spahl and one summit cheapy fan, they kept popping my fuse too. So I just had the factory right side harness trigger a 30a relay with a direct to battery wire job. so both fans kick on and off all the time. And I don't get the AC button fan trick but it works flawlessly.
