JACKSON IN THE VALLEY

- Though its origin is unclear, according to some sources, this song is freely adapted from the war-time "poetry" of Private John B. Driscoll (nicknamed "John-Boy"), of the Gooch County Irregulars, Company J, and sung to the melody of the contemporary fiddle tune, "Cripple Creek". This rousing musical narrative recounts the early war achievements of "Stonewall" Jackson's famous "Foot Cavalry," as they seemingly miraculously defeat all prospective invaders of the Shenandoah Valley in the spring of 1862, then march to Lee's support at Richmond during the Seven Days Campaign.
WOW !!! A HUGE thank you to all of you 'first responders' ! Thanks for all your wonderful comments and kind words. We still have more 'in the bag', so stay tuned...
We're looking forward to it!
You are my favorite group. I listen to your music every day. Awesome 👍!
I love you
Long live General Jackson. The greatest tactician in American history. Every few months I drink a beer by his grave.
I think you confused him with Mr. Sherman.
@@dhruvrajtaragi1899 Maybe there's a little "Tecumsa" there too.
I’m pretty sure he died tho bruh
@@dhruvrajtaragi1899 You're looking for the song. Sherman went down to Georgia.
Not to down play Jackson but he got lost a couple of times in the Seven Days Battle. So how was he the greatest.
The hero's finally come back after thousands of years of being silent
When the world needed them most they actually appeared

A lot of people nowadays think it fashionable to disrespect the old folks and the old ways. Keep the memories alive, men.
All the people who rush to say "It's just the slave holding traitors that the Communist revolutionaries holding our society hostage hate, not all Americans!" were awfully quiet when a statue of Lincoln got vandalized recently.
@@connorperrett9559 Those indigenous people candalized Lincoln’s statues, and unfortunately for you - they are true native Americans.

Hurray for General Stonewall Jackson and his gallant men
From me and my 37 known confederate ancestors, thank you for preserving confederate history
I respect your 37 ancestors and everything Thay did... I also have multiple ancestors that fought for the confederates!
Regardless of what you think of the civil war brave courageous men fought and died on both sides it good of these men to preserve the heritage of the south ironically my family is from the south but I'm descended from a irish union soldier on my dad's side
97th Regimental String Band started posting again, too! This is a promising trend!
Happy Birthday Old Stonewall
God Bless, Ol' Blue Lights!

Although I'm from New York, I respect our country's history, I just started getting into civil war reenacting a few months ago
Good for you !!! No matter which side you 'fight' on, you'll never meet a better group of folks. After having spent 30+ years in the 'hobby', I can guarantee it. Welcome aboard !
About 15 years ago I remember our history teacher showing and telling us about this band when we were studying the Civil War and here I am appreciating your music today.. Thank you for sharing it with us! Ps.. my school was named after Robert E. LEE and we were the Lee REBELS!!
Rest in Peace, General Jackson
A legend in building the tradition of American military prowess. Stonewall's "foot cavalry" were the grandfathers of the US armored infantry in the 20th Century. It is fitting that Army installations be named for Confederate generals.
AMEN ! Great AMERICAN soldiers all !! May they ne're be forgot !!!
Wonderful Friday suprise friends, I needed this.
Thank God you guys are back!!
My two favourite Jacksons--Andrew and Stonewall
Old boy with the guitar singing reminds me so much of my papaw it hurts. Love you papaw Frank, thank yuns for keeping his culture alive
It sucks that people are wanting to destroy history and tear down monuments and because of that I started reenacting
I try to read old books that were written right after the war and not the faked-up history of today.Sprinkle Publications has some good ones on Stonewall Jackson, too.
It’s also funny that the reenacting community is one the most accepting groups of people. We have non white people in our Waffen SS unit. But when you look at a BLM they want things racially segregated.
Fabulous group of Patriotic Men. Thanks 2nd SC.
I love southern heritage, especially in Mississippi and Missouri .. Despite what happens, this song is still great❣️
All honour to your tribute to the great and noble Confederate hero "Stonewall" Jackson. Deo vindice!

after nearly 170 years of the civil war, it seems that at least stonewall's band is still primed and ready for the fight! well done on this song brothers.

There was a land of cavaliers and cotton fields called the Old South…
Here in this patrician world the age of chivalry took its last bow…
Here was the last ever to be seen of knights and their ladies fair, of master and of slave…
Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered, a civilization gone with the wind…
- Margaret Mitchell
T'was back in the Summer of '61
Stonewall Jackson's fame was won
McDowell marched across Bull Run
And went back running to Washington
Come the Spring of '62
Down the Valley Ol' Blue Light flew
At Kernstown there he picked a fight
And gave Old Abe' a fearsome fright
Rebels in the Valley, Lincoln cries Alarm
Jackson's in the Valley‚ all fear to his harm
Jackson's in the Valley‚ Stonewall is on the loose
Jackson's in the Valley‚ all hell's a'breaking loose
Down the Valley and back again
Stonewall's boys did fight win
For two long months and maybe more
We marched, and we fought, then we marched some more
Now we'll raise a rebel yell
And we'll send them Yankees straight to hell
We'll give them grape shot‚ buck, and ball
We'll march and we'll fight for old Stonewall
We'll march even though our feet are torn
And it's true our clothes are worn
Still we'll keep our muskets primed
For Stonewall's army is full of fight
Banks and Shields, and Freemont too
From our Valley they all withdrew
Jackson swept the Valley clear
And now he marches on McClellan's rear
Jackson's in the Valley‚ Stonewall is on the loose
Jackson's in the Valley, all hell's a'breaking loose
Jackson's in the Valley, Stonewall is on the loose
Jackson's in the Valley, all hell's a'breaking loose
I love this band.

Couldn't agree more. All art should be preserved for future generations, especially those relevant to some of the most important periods of modern Human history, whether it concerns the Confederacy, the Union, Soviets, Nazis, or fuckin North Korea and China lol. One of my favorite tv passtimes is reruns of "The Heat of the Night" soap opera cop tv show set in ole Miss about 1990. The notorious saloon where the known tough guys hang out that the Detectives visit frequently sports an Army of Northern Virginia banner on the wall behind the bar and an outsized photo of Genr'l Jackson, to leave no doubt who frequents that watering hole.
