  • Everyday conversation wasn't something that came naturally to 6-year-old Mason Motz. He's been in speech therapy since he was a year old. He has been diagnosed with Sotos syndrome, which caused him to have distinctive facial features and learning disabilities, but it didn't quite explain why he couldn't speak. A trip to the dentist revealed Mason was biologically tongue tied. InsideEdition.com's Mara Montalbano ( / maramontalbano ) has more. #InsideEdition

The surgery helped my son so much. We fought from the time he was 6 weeks to 2.5. Doctors didn't want to do it but we finally found one who would. He stopped choking when he was eating and drinking hours after the surgery he was showing off his new tongue. It's been a year and we have had nothing but improvement.

Idk why your doctors wouldn't want to do it its simple and they should usually do it right after birth with not actual surgery needed just a snip

Hi I know this post is four months old. My two year old son just had this same procedure done at an ENT doctor. I was given the run around for an entire year also. I was wondering how soon after the procedure did your 2.5 son started talking? My son will be 3 in June, and can only say hi, bye,eye and very often mama since the procedure. I’m not sure why I thought he would be talking full blown sentences after the procedure. I had this done as a child just trying to get insight on how soon he will start talking after the procedure.

My child kept going to the ER and kicked out of day care every other day, fever up to 105. His doctor (a military pediatric Dr.) said it was normal, I wanted to
Go to ENT. It started at age 3 Months.
The Doctor kept giving my son antibiotics, we were on round 4 of the 4 types he could take at such a young age. I had to have a referral
To go to ENT at this time and he would not give me one. He kept saying as a first time
    Mom it was me
    Not the baby.
My child stopped babbling or paying attention when I was talking to him unless I was face to face.
The Doctor went on vacation or something but I got to see another one and that doctor was confused as to what treatment to do since we had done everything 3/4 times. He gave
    Me The referral.
I go and the doctor is in the room 30 seconds, looks at the baby’s ears and leaves, 30 minutes later he comes back and tells me I’m lucky I am not going to jail for child endangerment or neglect.
My son almost lost his hearing due to a massive infection in both ears. He got ear tubes and they drained puss for 6 months. The original doctor was mad, he didn’t believe in ear tubes and took it out on me by putting in my medical records as well as my sons that I was a hypercondract.
    My son started
To hear right after his surgery and started
Speaking. He was 9 months old. By a year he was speaking words. I had to work with him after work cause the medical records, I could not get a referral for speech therapy through his doctor. ENT took pity on me and I was told to ignor the normal procedures, come to them any time for anything. They understood that I was fighting for my child against someone who let their personal beliefs interfere with proper medical treatment.
In the military I was not allowed to change where I or my son went for treatment. That means I was forced to see this one doctor for my child even though there were others.
My son was over a year old before the higher up understood that this one doctor was the problem and not me, the private, Mom. It took the head of ENT, the deputy base commander, my chain of command and my sons Day Care to make the medical branch understand it was this doctor that was a danger to this one patient and not a over reactive Mom.
So fight for your child, even when told something is normal but you think it is not.
After the tubes were in my child never went back to this doctor except for routine shots. There was no need, he got better, no problems.

But I do not understand how his pediatrician or any of the specialists never noticed this, this is when we realize that doctors overlook things that can be more than obvious or do not notice them because they would lose a patient that leaves them a lot of money in the consultations

He was having a hard time but he still tried, I didnt want to have to find something and make him have surgery for the third time in his first year of being born, but when we took him to the doc and he said he was tongue tied and they will do surgery but it will just be a quick snip :) I was so relieved 😊

So true momma follow your first mind. I went to the Emergency room 3 times for my son over one weekend and they kept telling me my son had a common cold. The last visit I told them I was refusing to leave because something was wrong. Well my son had pneumonia covering the entire right side of his chest. It was there on the first night but they never even looked at the X-ray because they just rushed us out because they were packed. We where in the hospital for 6days my son's temp was 105.1 when we got admitted.

Good that he's doing so well but a tongue tie is something that is normally caught when the child is still an infant. Tongue ties can hinder the ability to latch on properly with nursing or bottle feeding. Why wasn't it caught early on? A pediatrician should have caught that and fixed it a long time ago.
