Tony Hawk's Project 8 - this game literally made me sick!

- Today we're covering two versions of Tony Hawk's Project 8 - the original Xbox version, and the 'next-gen' PS3 version. Which version is better? Honestly, it's not even a tough call, because the PS3 version made me want to puke.

I feel like I'm gonna be criticized for this statement but project 8 was among one of my favorite tony hawk games
I liked it.
It was cool
Watching the game play was so nostalgic , I loved this game when it came out
Same its awesome
He’s viewing it in a lot more of a serious skater’s side
I really liked tony hawks project 8
Same
Txmothy me too I got the 360 version a few days ago
yea
Same it was the last good one
Same
the 360 version is actually fantastic
Game has terrible frame rate issues
If you don't mind all the frame rate dips, made it pretty unplayable at times when I replayed it some recently.
Yeah
Agreed
Jimmy Dee yes it is I played it o loved it
I always knew there was something up when i couldnt get that first grind challenge. Thanks rad rat!
That grind challenge made me so angry as a kid lmao
lol u just have to jump on the red. he was jumping to early. as well as you han hit right and jump and they will jump sideways, but only veterans know this
Skill issue
I played the Xbox 360 version of this game and I actually spent too much time with the game that I was able to see the whole thing through. Completing the goals on Sick were like grand master challenges and many of them were frustratingly hard. Reaching rank 5 gets you a Pro Challenge with Tony, Rodney, and Mike V that involves an "Old School meets New School" concept. When 95% of all goals are complete on Sick, Tony tells you his history with finding Animal Chin in the '80s and you unlock the final challenge that involves doing a long combo from the Capitol to the School to the Skate Park to the Fun Park. When that challenge is complete, you reach rank 1 and unlock an extra Pro Bails video, and that's it.
I apologize for saying too much. I felt that you needed to know.
SkateSean2125 next time just put **SPOILER** before you spoil it
Amazing!
The races are absolute bullshit
I played this game quite a bit but i remember getting stuck on rank 6. Those sick challenges were ridiculous.
I never ever finished this game...
yo man i used to watch you back in like 2007 on your aronl channel, you taught me so much man its cool to see you're still active
I had the ps2 version
Семен Д. It was awful
JayKwizz Still loved it
BristolViceSquad Exactly
JayKwizz Fuck you and your opinion... I still loves you though
Vitun nobo
Ps2 version intro with club foot playing and that slow mo shit was a life defining moment for me and also the first time I stole beer from my brother on Christmas
So in a nutshell, it's, "Notice me, Tony Hawk-Senpai: The Game?"
Okay.
My foot your ass
This is an amazing game, currently playing it on my PSP. Solid game!
13:34 he talks about game making him sick
Video games don't give you a fever.
when you said it made you sick I cried a little. this was one of my favorite games growing up, I still occasionally play it on the psp when I am traveling
it LITTALRY made him sick no "it was bad"
Okay, the PSP version of this game was not bad at all. I actually played the shit out of that game when I was in Saturday School my Freshmen yr. It's the original Xbox version that I have a problem with. The 360 version is best, despite its horrible frame drops
If you still have your psp 6 years later there is a mod for project 8 on psp called THPM. It's Thugpro but for psp. It's got maps from other games and since the project 8 was built on the thaw engine it has bmx and parkour as well as bert slides and nail the trick.
Please tell me your going to do reviews for the SKATE series. Always enjoy the videos, keep it up!
I'd like to see RR's perspective on that series as well.
jesses13 Ofc he will. He said he will review anything skateboarding related. I think he has done some skate games already, but he will probably do skate 1-3 after the tony hawk series.
Skate's awesome.
Well, it's cool that Jason Lee got in there somehow.
14:15 Oh, look; Saints Row got into the game too!
You know Jason lee is the stereo skateboards guy right lol
@@commanderhavock6450 Yes.
I just want to point something out for Proving Ground, in the display or control settings you can change your camera view, you can have dynamic, standard, or classic.
I honestly prefer the ps3 version of Project 8, the physics are kinda wonky (thank god proving ground smoothes everything out) but It's fun once you figure it out.
Fun fact: The Ps3/360 version of Project 8 was developed on the guitar hero 3 engine.
AK are you saying that just cause neversoft? Honestly, I've seen GH3 and Project 8 (PS3/360) and both engines don't look the same
AK I think you're thinking of proving ground, which came with a guitar hero 3 demo included.
Jackass
No, it really was on the same engine, it's the reason why the character models look the same.
-AK- I knew something was up with the way the characters looked
Proving Ground is fun, I didn't really start playing it till a couple months back.
I played the ps2 version and I'm confused on the blue timer, flip button manual and no walking. I don't remember any of this? I remember it being exactly the same as underground.
i do too, actually... or did i play the ps3 version??
The ps2 version is way better . i remember it being dope. Psp version wasnt a bad engine for it either.
Noj Paul it’s not the Xbox 360 was way better
yeah you don't know what an engine is
This is the opposite from Square Eyed Jack's review. Interesting to see different point of views.
i feel like hes too critical. i like RR Perspective, hes more through & through. All the way from physics & gameplay & Why its that way
Great video except...."I got motion sickness.....I had a fever, I got really sick" Lol motion sickness does not work like that. Its symptoms are a bit of dizziness, disorientation and maybe some nausea.
He did a boneless on a pizza at 6:55
The Cringe Factory boneless Pizza yee
Fake news. He did it on the QP behind the pizza. I thought I was about to have a life changing experience... Thanks for nothing
man i remember me getting all goals on sick and unlocking the animal chin goal :D
project 8 on the 360 was my shit
duderbeans me too!
duderbeans Ikr idk why he hates the next gen version
he played the ps3 version which did have alot of problems compared to the 360 version
Brewserker Next Gen as in the latest version it came out in. Doesn't matter when it came out, there's always a last gen and a next gen.
Dude, you really want you to do reviews on mat hoffman games, they're actually really good!
dave mirra games were good as well
Dave Mirra was better because of all the tricks you could mix up
Matt hoffman Pro Bmx 2!
holy shit that bam pro challenge, that unlocked a 14 year old memory. I remember getting this game on launch and spending forever doing that challenge, i think in the end there was some other way of doing that was a lot easier, but the game never told you
This was the only Tony Hawk where the original Xbox version is not compatible with the Xbox 360 version.
THIS IS WHY I DONT WATCH RAD RAT ANYMORE. RIP TONY HAWKS PROJECT 8. LITERALLY THE FIRST VIDEO GAME I EVER PLAYED AND MY FAVORITE SKATING GAME EVER.
Project 8 was fun for me. I loved the maps, gaps, flips, new manual control, the challenges, the slow-mo mode, the stalls, and marker that allows you to spawn where you set it. I also love how easy it was to find mind blowing gaps that seem to work. PS I play the PSP version with an emulator on my Mac. It’s a blast.
I played project 8 on PS2 back in the day. After learning how different the game was on PS3 I've been bitter about it ever since. The PS2 version you can't freely travel between locations at all.
You got the better version, trust me. I got the 360 version and would prefer to have it on PS2.
On the topic of the goals RadRatVideo, I was able to achieve 100% on the PS3 Version after months of effort. The difficulty expressed here is exactly what it is, I literally had to exploit a glitch to beat one goal in particular (Bowling In Downtown). Just Ridiculous Man, anyways great review been impressed with your work concerning what skateboarding is along with the game reviews which was what drew me toward your channel keep it up.
I had this game for my PsP and I remember it being pretty decent actually, I liked it more than American Wasteland and THUG2. Also alot of psp games back then were waaaay different than their console counterparts. Project 8 was good for its time id say. Better than the new one on ps4. Yikes!
Same here! I had it on my psp as well haha:)
@@STAIND12300have it on my psp as well. There's a mod for it called THPM. It's basically thugpro for psp. It's got bert slides and bmx and parkour. It also has nail the trick
Lol those kids running out of the school killed me
Do the mat Hoffman pro bmx games during your break. I think you'll really like them especially the 2nd one.
I agree.
Gotta love that NPC bailing at 11:49
Project 8 isn’t bad at all but it could never be THUG or American wasteland
I have the psp and the ps2 version, I didn't know until now that it was on ps3 and xbox 360
I remember the PSP version being pretty decent...
Its ridiculously hard to balance, at least on the Xbox 360. You can't balance for more than 5 seconds without bailing
The Xbox/PS2 version of project 8 is very nostalgic for me!
It was amazing but I definitely felt sick after playing it too long too.
Didn't seem to bother me back in the day but I just can't go back to it today.
One of the first 360 games i played online. I remember winning the high score mode all the time because no one knew how to combo lol
Nothing is wrong with the 360 version mate
I LOVED THIS GAME SO MUCH OMG I STILL PLAY IT ON MY 360
Andrew Plush same brother we should play if you have live
toiletboyp whats your gt? i need the achievment for online game
Personally this is one of my favorite Tony Hawk games, but that's probably because of the nostalgia factor, this is the game that got me into skateboarding
American Wasteland had so many different tricks and gave you so much freedom in terms of gameplay that when I finally played Project 8, I was severely disappointed.
I think the 360 version ran better and had less glitches. I don't recall encountering any of these glitches or weird camera and frame glitches. I definitely didn't have any problems collecting items. The goals definitely had their moments though like you mentioned with a lot of unclear transitions and goal locations.
This game gave you a fever? That's not how motion sickness works.
The jeep factory part killed me. Funny guy Aaron
P8 is my favourite one. Probably because I have years of fun out of it as a kid
I think if Project 8 and American wasteland were combined in their best features, these would almost be a perfect game.
that grind at 3:13 is possible, I 'grinded' it for ages when I was younger
I remember playing thp8 on PSP. Loved this game, levels were really big and game was a lot of fun. Should play it again one day
and now today MySpace has become an afterthought after Facebook took over.
Not knowing that you could walk would be the reason you had half those issues..
I think an excellent candidate for a review would be Backyard Skateboarding.
Deadass just thought i sucked at sick challenges when i was younger
The sickness happened to me with Shaun White Skateboarding. Horrible feeling.
Yeah I remember that feeling kinda rough to play as well
@@mrjohnnyk right. I never had a desire to try again since then. and now we have the Tony Hawk 1&2 on PS4 and I love the Olli Olli series.
i like project 8 but the closer camera + chunky performance is absolutely headache inducing. those are 100% the things that keep me from replaying it.
Yeah I tried playing it on 360 yesterday and it's rough.
I've been looking forward to this since I subscribed just recently, you helped inspire me to start skating for more than just transportation. :)
I wanted to start my PS2 version on my PS3 from the beginning after all those years but every time i complete a goal or challenge my controller stops working. :(
I totally forgot coach frank was in this lol
The boards in the intro video does look weird but when I was little it just looked so sick to me
I thought I was the only one who got physically sick playing it
The boards are soooo small it looks hilarious. Homies shoes are like the entire length of the board. 3:37
The nail a trick stuff in this video made me motion sick lol
Best tony hawk games are when they’re wild and not realistic at all, for example: underground 1 & 2 and American wasteland... for realistic games, they make more sense with games like skate and session.
People just prefer dumb fun over realism, I mean you bring up Skate that does have really realistic mechanics but when most people hear Skate they think of Skate 3 and it's hilarious gameplay
i had the PSP version. i haven't played on my PSP in about 10 years so the only things i remember from the game is the park from 1:00 and "Nail The Trick"
My R2 and L2 stopped working. Now I can't spine transfer/bank drop. Any help to fix this?
This was the first Tony Hawk game I didn't have fun playing.
we are so close to thpg
I loved this game when I was young I had it in original Xbox. Now I'm 17 and a few days ago I found it on 360 and got and it works well for me
I know a lot of THPS fans will say that THPS2 was the best Tony Hawk game (or one of the underground games) however I think that THPS3 is probably the best skating game ever made, along with skate 2
I agree thps3 was the best in my opinion.
I remember liking this game but everything from the soundtrack to the tone made me feel depressed when i played it as a kid
Hate me all you want, but if there is ever a Tony Hawk Project 8 + Proving Grounds, that could be the better realistic Tony Hawk game.
I would like to see what these could be like remastered in 60fps
Man i remember playing this back in 2008 on the ps2 it was the best game ever
still have it today
Somebody know how to activate the progressive scan mode (480p) on the ps2 version?, 'cause the triangle and cross thing didn't work, and there's not in the options menu
Can we all just acknowledge for a second how f*cked up it is that acquiring a NON-knock-off PS3 controller at this point is nearly impossible simply because the knock-offs have been produced to the point of completely flooding the controller market?
It's pretty tragic for anyone who really likes PS3 and finds themselves in need of a new controller. I don't see older console controllers having this problem as much.
Finally!😆 the rat has taken a bite out of this rotten cheese.
you're not the only one. I played this game on a PS2 hooked up to a tv in a car and got mad motion sickness.
Any game played in a car will do that.
My first time playing this game in like 4 years. I had easily 100% the game on Rank 1, I struggled so much back then. But I had played it for the first time in 4 years, i 100% it in like 2 days. It’s not hard, I think you just need to have experience to know how to get rank 1
Back then i had the ps2 copy at the time i was around pretty young honestly 😞 i cant tell you if i bet it or not... i feel like i have.
I actually like not being forced to revert since I have a lot of trouble doing it.
the low camera setting in the skate games make me sick (literally)
I have played every Tony Hawk game however only had Project 8 on ps2 felt like I’ve missed out never experiencing the Xbox 360 version
I bought this version however the disc wouldn’t load was devastated!
Project 8 is open world and more fluid than the 2021 TH PS1&2
Project 8 was my childhood. The 360 edition is elite. I'm 21😂
I have a feeling the same people who loved Project 8,
has no clue what Myspace is. 😅
It's always confused me that you say getting off the board is different on the Original Xbox version when that's the black button in every game it appears in, including this one. Plus I get hint boxes all the time telling me how to get off the board when I play.
Been playing it on the ps3 emulator recently and having a blast. It's a much better game when it runs in 60fps lol. Still has those fat frame dips, but its playable and brings me back
That sounds like a far more pleasant experience. The frame rate is probably one of the roughest things about this game on 360/PS3
the jeep part cracked me up
aaaaaand i just found you. what a nice surprise!!!! glad your back! you are the man.
Looking forward to the Proving Ground review. It's such a sad shell of its former self. They could've taken the feedback from Project 8 and made a solid sequel but they made a dreary entry in the series.
Called project 8 cause it was the 8th game in the series not because of myspace lol.
This one was such a bummer for me as a kid after loving American Wasteland
I wish skate 3 was sponsored by Jeep. :(
My dad bought a modded original Xbox from a guy at work and it had Project 8, Need for Speed Underground 2, serious sam and a bunch of others. Until this video, I had no idea it was any different from the ps3 version. Thank you Rad Rat for giving me a reason to play project 8 again on a console I've never played it on before
I knew they had 2 versions of American Wasteland, but I bought this game for 360 the day it came-out
I didn't have this one, Instead I had the Classic tony hawk titles. I had THPS, THPS2, THPS3, THPS4, But I am getting THPS5. Rad Rat might get mad at me xD
Project 8 ps3 was amazing rad
I'm sorry, I know you were criticizing this game, but damn this gives me some serious nostalgia.
During the Sheckler challenge you can use the quarterpipe behind you and then you will boneless the gap no problem
