- I said I wouldn't use a hitch mount tire carrier until I found a half price Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Max on Facebook Marketplace. I drove a couple hours to pick it up but my camping plans didn't work out...

Nice! A suggestion. That angled bar looks like it could smack into the side of the truck bed door. Maybe zip-tie on some black padding, like that styrofoam they use to insulate pipes. That'd help I'd think. And that rust, I'd hit that with some WD-40 and steel wool or a bristle attachment on a drill to get off as much rust as possible before painting it. Rust is like Termites. There's always more than you think, and if you don't hammer it when there's just a little, suddenly stuffs falling apart and the repair bills get insane.

You can make drop down table for the back of the carrier so when the bed is open you have a table to cook on.
Getting a little inappropriate with the grease, lol. It looks good on there. Always good to have a spare with you too. Great addition to the rig. 👍
You should made a fold up/fold down metal table on the inside of the tire rack that you can use while cooking on the tailgate.
Grease the hinge also. They tend to seize up.

I have one on the back of my Jeep, never had to use the spare, thank gosh, I have a tow bar also just in case I want to tow .. hugs from Wisconsin, glad you have one as much as you travel, can't have enough spares.. in Wisconsin it's a State law to move over to the side of the road in gravel for any emergency vehicles..
Don't forget to move your license plate to the left side of that system I see the two holes drilled in there for it 👍🏻🇺🇸

Only thing is your plate is covered, might have to do something about that.
There is a spot on the left side with threaded inserts to move the ate too but I'll need to wire in a light

That's cool...I made one of these 20 years ago for my truck. Used it about a year and scrapped it. Who knew I was ahead of the game then lol!
I like how your priority was getting it mounted before taking the keys to your wife. 😂. It looks good but more importantly gives you some peace of mind especially with some of the remote places you go

I like that tire carrier option Crazy Quady!!! I carry a second spare in a rack on top of my shell...went through 4 truck tires on a month long trip from midwest (Broken Arrow, Oklahoma) to NM AZ CA NV UT CO. All the flats were in Utah around the dugway Geobeds (Sharp Rocks). Good Times.
I would definitely get a support under the tire. I can imagine the threaded rod breaking eventually from all the leverage and bouncing on studder bumps. I have a swing out I built on my 4runner. I love having the full size spare, but I hate having to swing it out every time I need to get in the back.

You'll have to make something to install your backup camera in the center of that carrier now unless you're going to put it off center with the plate. But it cools as hell and definitely need a spare tire when traveling. 👍🏼👍🏼
As for the spacing on the spare tire and you screw it on you can just probably find a rubber spacer or donut.
You put a fold down table on the back side, so when you swing it out you can put your stove on it.

Looks good. Looking more and more like a overlander ! If it were mine, I would definitely put the support bracket under the tire to help carry the load of the wheel/tire. You were down here in my neck of the woods to get that rack.

Looks nice! Now instead of the traction boards, you could mount a folding table to the back side. Way more useful in camping situations that having the traction boards in the way.
Don’t forget to move your license plate to the left side of the tire holder. I see 2 screws ther looks like that’s for the plate

As always thanks for the vid! I've been thinking about getting a tire mount, I'll hold off just to see how you like yours! I recently got all new tires and decided to Plasti-dip my rims with camo black (they were original Taco 2001 rims in decent condition). Well safe travels friend!!
Looks sick! Plus, I only run 285/70/17 on my Duramax, so I can still fit one underneath in the factory spot. Having two spares would be great! Maybe you can build a little fold down table/tray on the back side to use when it is swung open?

You might have to mount your lisence plate somewhere else, I don't know about where you're from, but i know in NY you'd get stopped for that 5x per day

I had a flat tire a month ago and the spare tire seemed to struggle to hold a 4000 pound challenger. But..... I can't fit a bigger spare in trunks tire compartment so pretty much have no choice but to trust that motorcycle tire 😂

Yeah you definitely need to move your license plate to where you can see it, and not be blocked from view.

Just a piece of advice, get u a longer pin so you can put a clip pin in the botton of that main pin so it dont bounce out to lock the rack closed so that the rough roads dont cause the pin to bounce out and the rack sling out on u goung down the road.

I am just wondering and would like to know, you are not being able to display your license on the back and you could run the risk of getting pulled over. Here in Idaho the state troopers pull people over all the time for it. Just a thought...

lots of leverage on the hitch with the weight. Very different leverage compared to using it with a (even) heavy trailer.
