literally one of the best videos I've seen on this issue. I was told to buy a code reader by my mechanic & connect it to my 2008 BMW x5 4.8i & literally came up with the P0335 code. I bought the {crankshaft} sensor. Now I can't get him to change it, because he doesn't like working on BMWs. I called around & everyone wants to diagnose my vehicle & not replace my CSP. Just to rip me off. I actually hate mechanics for these types of reasons. Excellent video. Mechanics hate youtube.
I had this exact issue last month on my 2008 e70 4.8, i wish i had seen your vid back then! I had to do the same as my CPS plug was netted as well. Very bizarre. Do you know what caused yours to melt? After replacing the plug and a new sensor as well, like you i fitted the o-ring.... But the engine ran terribly after. I still had CPS codes and it was obvious the engine was out of time (backfiring, coughing etc). After much head scratching, i removed the o-ring from the CPS sensor and it runs perfectly now. I believe the o-ring was causing the sensor to sit to far away from the flex plate and wasn't getting a string enough reading. I am surprised someone else has had their CPS plug melt! Glad your CPS seems to work with the o-ring, mine must have been thicker and caused me problems.
Wow, your CPS as well 😮 I'll keep an eye on the O-ring then 👍🏻 While replacing CPS, I noticed the splash guard for that area is missing, so CPS might have melted by the rain and puddles. Or I have a coolant leak from probably the Vally pan or Rear cover, and the coolant travels and might have poured onto the CPS sensor area. But still, it's a mystery... 🫠
Hello from the USA! I have a 2010 bmw x5 sport 4.8i with 81k miles. Everything is great except I sometimes get the 4x4 warning on dash (yellow light) and the regular set of warnings on the display (dsc, drive carefully , chassis stabilization, rev limiter). Cant find any real culprit so just started replacing things. I replaced loads of things, new transfer case, steering angle sensors, etc. Now 4k $ later problem still happens but comes and goes. your video says the crank shaft position sensor fixed the issue!! Exciting to see. I just want to ask and confirm that the repair fixed the issue for you? Thank you in advance. Brandon
Wow, you've done a lot and sorry there is still the issue. You are right. In my case, it solved all the warnings and rev limitations by replacing the sensor and its harness/connector. So what I've seen on my X5 is that on many occasions, as you might know, a bad battery or faulty alternator throws these warnings even though the other parts are functioning fine. Most likely, low voltage triggers these warnings. And I solved those warnings and CEL by just replacing the battery and alternator. So I usually suspect those parts first, and meantime, I scan X5 with Carly (or any scanner) and see whatever fault codes I get. Then work on them based on the codes. Other possibilities...A few years ago, I got many warnings like you even after refreshing the battery and alternator. Rev was pretty unstable. And there were also throttle body fault codes, and I found out about the worn-out throttle harness to the throttle body. Replaced the harness, and no warnings. (Throttle body was fine) I have a video about that too :) And on this crankshaft sensor video, I got the same kinds of warnings and crankshaft sensor code, and as you saw, I found the melted sensor harness. Replaced it and cleared the issue. Hope this helps, and solves the issues, and you can enjoy driving in the summer!
hello i have x6 e71 3.5d 2009 and my car start for 2 second and die. i change pump fuel, pump reley, pump computer. i dont know what to do now... On computer when i connect with car they say noone problem. Meybe start sensor ? or what can i try? thanks.

Thank you 4.8i brother! Glad this video gives you some positive ideas. Hope your 4.8i soon runs great 👍
Same problem on my e46 325ci. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for watching👍 Wish I had an e46!!!

Am I safe to use Bremi sensor from FCP euro I got 2009 x5 4.8i it’s doing hiccups when stepping on the gas and when driving it’s hiccups pretty bad.
Are you back in Japan now?
Gland you were able to get it repaired.

So is this the sensor next to the starter or not
Yup, the CPS is behind the starter. Close to the rear end of the starter 👍
What type of ramps are you using?
It's "MotoMaster Vehicle Maintenance Ramps, 13,000lbs, pair." I've got one from Canadian Tire, here in Vancouver, Canada about 80 CAD 👍🏻
