So I took out my copy of On the Origin of Species. I have a printing of the 6th edition from 1872. On the Imperfection of the Geological Record is actually the tenth chapter in that edition. If the original copy has it as the nineth, then that citation is still wrong in failing to specify the edition and actually citing the first edition in terms of the date given. It's not wrong purely on the merit of the chapter number.

I can say with the two major studies on charity in the US and UK that Christians are far more charitable and are postively involved in communities, compared to atheists. Why raising charitable people is considered child-abuse makes me question your moral footing. You could always create time-travel and finally prove this unfalsifiable theory, then we can talk about what is abusive when it comes to actual objectively proven knowledge. Science is always changing according to every evolutionist I talk to. This also means a lot of scientific falacies have been taught and most likely still are without knowing. So every child taught a scientific claim that turned out to be false was abused by this moral reasoning.

Would you like to go into the evidence for this statement? Shall we try psychological studies, specific case studies? Or should I just prove to you evolution is not proven? At this much later date, I was having a chat with an acquaintance in the school car park as we waited for our kids to finish school (he was one of the few other Dads who did the school run - most people doing that were the Mums or Grannies). How things got onto evolution I'm unsure, but it may well have been him saying something about humans not being designed for x,y,z (because he is very deep in creationism), and me responding saying it was more that we didn't evolve that way. He told me that evolution was only a theory, so I pulled my keys out of my pocket and dropped them, then said "So's gravity."

Speaking as a professional geologist, I can say without a doubt that, Yes, the geological record is incomplete. That is due to the incredibly changing nature of geological deposits and the forces that act upon them to either change, remove or redeposit them. I can think of very few places where there exists a complete, or relatively complete, geological record. And even then, this record would only apply to the area in which it is located!
But even after all of that, the amount of fossil evidence that exists despite the incompleteness of the geological record is truly astounding. Even if you just count the "real" fossils and not the trace fossils that exist in almost every strata of sedimentary rock, there is a staggering amount of evidence out there.

Consider a simple queue buffer that passes messages. Certain workers can pick up different sections of the original message that is buffered onto the queue completely out of order, then based on the segment the worker picked up, do work and perhaps set or unset (new) flags. Those flags may then control a different flow in future messages. The context in which the message is interpreted as well as the segments that potentially preceded or succeeded it are relevant. What will inevitably happen here in the US is that we will end up locked in a christian theocracy, coming soon whenever the next republican president is elected, and when they also have a majority in congress. SCOTUS already backs up religious law as well, so challenging the laws they will pass will be irrelevant.

Interesting, perhaps (and hopefully), but it's not going to change their everyday life whatsoever. The remarkable thing about relatively recent finds is how frequently they plug right into gaps in already suspected lines of development, like the interesting series of fish-to-tetrapods around 350 million years ago, the feathered-to-flying theropod line, etc...& our own surprisingly diverse hominid family tree. It can be honestly said that there are fewer missing links today than there were when Dr. Leakey explored Olduvai Gorge.

As someone who's been a programmer for over 30 years, I suspect maybe Jay wasn't ever a very good programmer. DNA is not like a user manual for building living things. DNA is a domain-specific language. It's entirely possible to design a language such that a program could have meaning forwards and backwards, but that doesn't mean any arbitrary set of symbols makes a valid program forwards and backwards.

When you actually read what Darwin wrote, he was pretty spot on. Science has filled in some of the gaps, as he predicted, and continues to do so. He was fully aware of the criticisms that would be levelled against his work. That he recognised Wallace had, independently, come up with the exact same ideas and so a collaboration might be a good idea shows Darwin’s thinking that two people arguing a topic would be more successful than one. There are so many publications that confirm and explain the individual subjects which form the basis of what is evolutionary biology, not just one!
